Star Citizen just keeps on amassing more development cash – they’ve now passed by the $39 million dollars milestone, unlocking the penultimate user-chosen star system. This new star system, called the UDS-2943-01-22 System, is described as a “truly unusual star system”, and it’s located on the edges of known, explored space.

Things are going to be shaken up quite a bit, however, as the team at Roberts Space Industries and Cloud Imperium Games are setting their sights on making the game infinitely playable. A new stretch goal was unveiled at $41 million dollars, and if the game reaches that milestone, a procedural generation research and development team will be formed.

Chris Roberts said that  Star Citizen “isn’t just about the game we launch with.” Let him explain:

“We’re going into this building not only an immersive launch experience, but the platforms and the tools to let us keep expanding the game to meet the available technology. The game won’t be a static experience: we want to build Star Citizen in a way that the experience will be fresh in five years, ten years and into the foreseeable future.

Advanced procedural generation will be necessary for creating entire planets worth of exploration and development content. A special strike team of procedural generation-oriented developers will be assembled to make this technology a reality.”

Currently, the next stretch goal is at $40 million dollars, which unlocks the Kabal and Oretani systems.
