Illegitimate Youtube Monetization Claims Plagued Thomas Was Alone Videos for Months

Here’s yet another case to add to the ever-growing pile of fraudulent Youtube claims being filed against let’s play creators – the creator of Thomas Was Alone, Mike Bithell, is fighting a seemingly never ending battle with the company Indmusic.

Bithell has repeatedly pointed out that he is happy to let his fans monetize let’s play videos of his game, but it seems Indmusic wants a piece of the pie that he created. Apparently, Indmusic is a well known perpetrator from back in December, when lots of Youtubers who do let’s play videos had their monetized videos flagged by the company.

Instead of taking this to a personal exchange of emails or phone calls, Bithell took to twitter to publicly shame the company from their outrageous and unwarranted practices. He said:

So one more time, @indmusic, you do not hold any claim to videos of Thomas was alone, do not harass my customers, stop.

A fan responded to him, asking how hard it would be for him to revoke their rights/claim to let’s play videos that are monetized. He replied by flatly saying they have no rights to his game:

@koboldskeep they have no rights, but continue regardless.

Eventually, Indmusic replied to him, but with an answer that was the complete opposite of what he was hoping for. Instead, they asked him to call them so they could talk it over:

@mikebithell let’s hop on the phone tomorrow. Source

@indmusic no, no phone call. Delete tracks from your database. We do not need to discuss. You need to stop. Source

@mikebithell It would be good to chat. Way too complex for 140 characters. Source

After this, Indmusic stopped responding to Bithell, although he remains vigilant. Refusing to give into people trying to cash in on his creation, he pressed on:

And don’t worry @indmusic, we’ll chat again tomorrow, and every day, until I stop getting emails with your name in the subject line.

Thankfully, it seems that Indmusic and their ridiculous attempts at cashing in on the monetization of the let’s play videos for Thomas Was Alone has come to an end.

Bithell confirmed that Indmusic has dropped all claims to Thomas Was Alone, and that moving forward there would be no more problems coming from them, but he still wants fans to be vocal should they repeat their past transgressions:

so, @indmusic have dropped all claims against Thomas Was Alone videos. If anyone else has any problems, please let me know.

Youtube’s new content ID system has been getting almost universal disapproval, due to third parties abusing it like this. Thankfully, it seems that Mike Bithell and the community behind Thomas Was Alone can rest easy now.

What do you guys think happened here? Was it just Indmusic trying to cash in on the money coming from the let’s play videos for the game?
