Square Enix Files a Trademark for Shinra Company

final fantasy vii ss 1

It seems Square Enix has something totally new up their sleeves for the Final Fantasy VII franchise. In a curiously new trademark filed in Japan, they registered the words “Shinra Company.” The mark is filed for the intention of use with a video game, by the way.

The fact that this mark is filed for a video game means that it won’t be yet another Shinra business card case, but perhaps another prequel to the classic RPG? For those of you who didn’t play the original, Shinra Company was the main source of electricity in the world, they were so powerful they even had a space division and a military force in the form of SOLDIER.

It seems like all Square wants to do with the property are either spin-offs or prequels, as the daunting task of remaking the game is worlds away in their minds. Hopefully this is a true new game, and not another mobile game with freemium goalposts. What do you guys hope it turns out to be?
