Nintendo and Platinum Games showed off a new trailer for Bayonetta 2 during a Nintendo Direct broadcast that aired earlier this week. Despite the sheer awesomeness of that trailer, we still haven’t gotten some real juicy new information about the sequel or its potential new mechanics.

Game director Yusuke Hashimoto took to the PlatinumGames blog to explain a new feature called the “Umbran Climax”, which you can see in action below:

He briefly described the new mechanic:

“In addition to the original’s gameplay system—dodging at the last minute to perform Witch Time, saving up your Magic Gauge to use Torture Attacks—Bayonetta 2 includes a new feature called Umbran Climax. Now saving your Magic Gauge also gives you the option to unleash a combo made of successive Wicked Weave and Infernal Demon summons. This wide-ranged attack can effectively give you free rein over the battlefield.”

You can also check out some Japanese gameplay below:

Bayonetta 2 is set for release in Japan sometime this summer, and later in the year for western Wii U owners. Hashimoto added that the team is “starting to reach the climax stage of development” with the title.

We’ll keep you guys posted.
