Nvidia is an industry titan, powering a multitude of devices both PC, Mac, and so on. On January 20th, they lost a talented staff member, Philip Scholz, who died trying to save a man who was on the train tracks at the Santa Clara Caltrain Station in California.

Scholz was Nvidia’s marketing manager, and despite his position in such a powerful company he risked his life to save another, leading to his untimely death. Although details are scarce, Scholz was laying on his stomach to help pull them man up from the train tracks, but the train hit both of them around 5:30 PM, PST. The speed at which the train was travelling was around 50-70 MPH, killing Scholz and leaving the unidentified man in critical condition at a local hospital.

Scholz was 35 years old when he died, and he is survived by his wife, Emily, who had this to say regarding the whole incident:

“It just doesn’t matter at this point. I just want people to know that he wasn’t doing something stupid, or that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He wasn’t in some kind of argument. He was doing the right thing when it happened.”

It’s very unfortunate that he was lost trying to save another person’s life – our condolences go out to the Scholz family and all of those affected by his loss.
