Yasumi Matsuno, the creator of Final Fantasy Tactics recently announced a partnership with the mobile and tabletop game publisher Playdek. Two titles under the name “Unsung Story” are planned, with the world and story for both games being designed by Mr. Matsuno.
Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians will be similar to Final Fantasy Tactics in terms of play style. Focusing on a small number of troops in lieu of large scale battles. The prequel game titled Unsung Story is a card battle game designed by board game designer Christophe Boelinger. Both games are set in the world of Rasfalia and based around 9 countries who are at war with one another. Although they share a similar play style, Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians sets itself apart from Final Fantasy Tactics by not limiting you to a preset country or cast of characters. Instead allowing you to play as any of the 9 countries and go to war with the other 8 in any order you choose.
No word on how they plan on telling a cohesive story in a game with this broad of a scope at the moment. We will have to wait until the game gets closer to release for more information.
Both games are slated for release in 2014 on IOS and Android platforms.
