Turok 1 & 2 Being Digitally Re-Released With New Enhancements

If you were into PC first person shooters in the mid 90s, you might have played the original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. Though Quake gathered most of the gaming media’s attention, Iguana’s video game adaption of the famous Dark Horse Comics (Or West Publishing, if you want to go all the way back to the 1950’s) native American hero gained a fanatical cult following that hasn’t let up even to this day. Becoming popular enough to get a full-fledged sequel as well as a port to the Nintendo 64, Turok is frequently held up as one of the best shooters ever created. Turok’s large levels, unconventional weapons, use of power-ups and minor platforming elements made it stand out amongst all the games trying to copy ID Software.

If you agree with that statement, then you’ll be happy to know that dedicated re-release experts Night Dive Studios is working on getting the first two Turok games re-released for modern PCs.

According to Night Dive, the games will come with remastered visuals as well as “new features” that bring it up to modern expectations. This is welcome news considering that while the original Turok will run on modern PCs, it requires a bit of finagling as well as acceptance that texture flickering and screen stretching are sometimes unavoidable.
