Industry Veteran Yasuo Otsuka Has Passed Away at 89

Anime industry veteran Yasuo Otsuka has passed away at the age of 89; his passing was announced by former producer Toshio Suzuki at the 2021 Tokyo Anime Award Festival.

Otsuka has been credited as an influence by multiple high-profile creators such as Hayao Miyazaki. After joining Toei in the 50s, it’s there that Otsuka did most of his work.

News blog Movie Walker announced the animator’s passing during their coverage of the Tokyo Anime Award Festival. Otsuka reportedly passed away early in the morning on March 15th.

Otsuka was known for his work on projects such as The Tale of the White Serpent, Magic Boy, the film Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland,  and the Lupin III franchise.
