While we haven’t heard much about the live-action Gears of War movie since its announcement back in 2016, we’ve learned a certain Hollywood star is begging for the opportunity to star as series protagonist Marcus Fenix – and fans agree he looks to be born for the role.
Former wrestling star Dave Bautista, known for his roles as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and Guardians of the Galaxy), among others, has been actively pursuing the lead role in the film adaptation “for years now.”
The muscled actor said that playing Marcus Fenix is “absolutely a dream role,” which he confirmed in a Twitter Q&A with Gamespot.
The film is reportedly being produced by Universal, with Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark as producers working out of Universal’s production company Bluegrass Films. Avatar 2 writer Shane Salerno is reportedly penning the script, but we haven’t heard anything concrete regarding the movie’s production in over a year.
The latest game in the franchise, Gears of War 4, was released back in 2016 for Windows 10 and Xbox One.
