We’ve learned (via MarketWatch, thanks GamesIndustry.biz) that Grand Theft Auto V has done so well in terms of sales it’s now the most profitable entertainment product of all time.

The new milestone comes after the game sold over 90 million units worldwide, raking in over $6 billion in total estimated revenue. This makes the game the “most financially successful media title of all time,” moreso than any movie or music record.

To compare, $6 billion in revenue far exceeds the $4 billion seen by huge movies like Star Wars and James Cameron’s Avatar (the latter of which grossed $2.8 billion).

It remains unclear if the $6 billion is pure unit sales or ongoing spending by players in the game’s ongoing online multiplayer.

Grand Theft Auto V is currently available for Windows PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
