Bethesda Announces New Studio in Austin

Bethesda Game Studios and ZeniMax Media have announced they’re expanding with a third studio.

The new studio will be located in Austin, Texas, and will be known as Bethesda Game Studios Austin. It’s worth pointing out that this is actually a rebranding of BattleCry Studios, who were founded in 2012 as a subsidiary of Zenimax.

“As the vision, scale and ambitions for our games continue to grow, so does Bethesda Game Studios,” said Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard. “We’ve had the pleasure to know the talented developers at BattleCry, and knew we could do great things together.”

The staff at BattleCry were working on their first game, the self-titled BattleCry, only to have its development shelved when Zenimax tasked them with helping id Software finish off the Doom reboot.

“We’re excited to join Bethesda Game Studios and look forward to working together on some of the industry’s most exciting new games,” said BattleCry studio director Doug Mellencamp. “Austin’s incredible game development scene and talent will also allow us to push our games further than fans have imagined.”

That’s all we know for now – however it will be interesting to see if the newly rebranded staff will be working on their own project(s), or helping other core Bethesda teams finish off their respective projects.
