Arcade1Up Reveals Budget-Priced Yet Full-Sized Arcade Cabinets for Centipede, Asteroids, and Street Fighter II

Toy manufacturer Tastemakers is teaming up with Arcade1Up to produce a new line of authentic reproductions of various arcade classics.

The first games to be confirmed include classic titles like Asteroids, Centipede, and even Capcom’s legendary Street Fighter 2. While the Asteroids cab arrives in the Asteroids Deluxe flavor complete with the original Asteroids, Major Havoc, and Tempest, the Centipede cab has Centipede, Breakout, Millipede, and Missile Command.

It remains unclear in what of the numerous iterations Capcom’s Street Fighter 2 will be coming in. Each cabinet stands four feet tall, and offers “the same gameplay as the originals, with same sounds, joysticks and buttons.”

A nod to the original Centipede and its cousins includes a trackball instead of a joystick, sine the original versions didn’t have one. As for the hardware guts that power these cabinets, Tastemakers said they’re running on a “custom” emulator, but will look, sound, and feel exactly like the original titles. We’ll see about that!

Each cabinet will set you back $399, and will have to be assembled by the buyer (likely to make shipping easier) – however Tastemakers notes the cabinets “can be easily assembled.” The entire setup will let you play arcade favorites on a 17-inch LED screen.

If you’re looking for a smaller and less expensive yet authentic arcade experience, Bandai Namco recently announced a few table-top arcade cabinets for classics in their library, including  Pac Man, Galaga, and Dig Dug.

If anyone at Capcom ever reads this – please make an arcade reproduction of Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara and Tower of Doom. What kind of arcade games would you buy to own in your own home, full cabinet or table-top? Sound off in the comments below!
