Advance Wars Progenitor Super Famicom Wars Finally Translated

Before Intelligent Systems released Advances Wars for the Game Boy Advance, they had a Japan-only series that also were named after the various Nintendo platforms they were released on.

First there was Famicom Wars, followed by Game Boy Wars (and its sequels and spinoffs), and eventually Super Famicom Wars. None of these games were ever released in English, until now.

Swedish hacker Optiroc released the game’s fully translated build just before Christmas of this year, over on the romhacking community.

While mining the original ROM, there were some unreachable content found – which despite appearing to be for debugging and playtesting, have been somewhat translated as well.

Nearly 20 years after its original release in 1998, the game as the fourth main entry in the Wars franchise by Intelligent Systems. There were a couple Game Boy Wars sequels to follow, with Advance Wars finally establishing the series as an international hit in 2001.
