Chinese-Made Devil May Cry Mobile Game Announced

This is Niche Imports. In this column, we regularly cover games that haven’t been announced for western audiences yet. Please leave feedback and let us know if there’s something you want us to cover!

We’ve learned (via MMO Culture) that Chinese developer Yunchang Game has obtained the IP rights from Capcom to develop a Devil May Cry game for mobile.

The new game is titled Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat, and is likened to an action RPG that is built within Unity 3D. A release is set for sometime next year in China.

Here are the first screenshots:

The report notes the developers focused on the game’s combat system. There will also be online modes including team battles and real-time PVP.

A previous rumor pointed to a fifth proper game in the series, Devil May Cry V, and that we won’t officially see anything for it until next year.

    “Are you crying?”

    “It’s only the rain.”

  • More faithful than a Pachinko machine (one can hope).
Regardless of that, it seems like it will be a not-terrible game gameplay wise.

  • A Loli 42 penises

    ….
at least it looks better than DmC.

  • malbhet

Just looking at the screenshots I can already tell that the frame rate and frame pacing is going to be horrendous!

  • Vernify

I can’t say I ever expected this to happen. It’s astonishing that this is actually a thing and that it doesn’t look half-bad graphically. I’m not trying to jump the shark here, but unless it plays smoothly on a phone (through some miracle) it probably won’t satisfy any DMC itch someone may have; even if the screenshots seem to indicate that characters may be faithful to there DMC3 incarnation. I guess though I can safely say this has more of my attention and held with higher hopes of being good then DmC was…which isn’t saying much, but it’s something.

  • Uncle Ocelot

Well… at least it kind of looks like Devil May Cry? Hopefully that rumour of DMC5 at E3 is real and this isn’t all there is to come for this series other than the re-re-release of the first 3 games.

  • Uncle Ocelot

How can you tell that from screenshots?

  • Rayquaza

this announcement feels like a huge DAB

  • Bodachi

Screenshots look like they were taken on a 3DS.

“Maybe somewhere out there, even a devil may cry when he loses a loved one, don’t you think?”

  • Casey

how are they gonna engrish the title anymore than it already is?

  • It’s a mobile game so framerates is always terrible.

  • looks like shit.

  • Audie Bakerson

I wish there was a new Devil May Cry game with the classic designs…

    I asked for it too… 😖

  • ProxyDoug

    The lighting looks really odd.
Would it be fair to judge its lack of attention for not giving Dante’s coat the leather strap that holds it together?

  • Shattno

I don’t understand why anyone would make a game like this for mobile. On the positive side it’s made with Unity, so one can always hope for a port to a better platform. (Of course assuming it’s worth playing at all to begin with.)

  • Travis Touchdown

    Hey look. It’s DMCV.

  • Fullgore

In terms of just visuals I think DMC blows every other Devil may Cry game out of the water. The people behind that game have insane imaginations when it comes to presentation.

  • Mr0303

    Well, fuck you too, Crapcom.

  • Snorlaxation

DmC was similar to david cage games in the sense that it was a lot of wasted potential. I loved the visuals and gameplay

  • Snorlaxation

and then we end up with a game that focuses on mundus.
Gotta be careful what you wish for/how you wish for it.

  • sanic

    Why you do this?

  • MrGhostMark

All I needed to see was on-screen buttons to know that playing the game would be a pain. See that circle-pad? Because my thumb will fall off this non-real button. Touch games require touch controls, not fake on-screen buttons.
