Disney and Fox Confirm Massive Acquisition Deal for $52.4 Billion

Disney and 21st Century Fox have announced a massive acquisition deal.

While Disney is acquiring a majority of 21st Century Fox’s assets at $52.4 billion in stocks, the real meat of the deal are the rights to various big franchises like X-Men, Avatar, The Simpsons, and more. Disney is also getting 30% stake in Hulu, raising their total stake in the company to 60%.

“We’re excited about this extraordinary opportunity to significantly increase our portfolio of well-loved franchises and branded content to greatly enhance our growing direct-to-consumer offerings,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement.

This acquisition further cements the Walt Disney Company as one of if not the biggest media corporation on the planet – which brings lots of concerns when it comes to monopoly-type scenarios. But hey – now you can get your X-Men stuff in your Marvel stuff, so I guess that’s totally cool and worth it.

What are your thoughts on the Disney-Fox acquisition? Is Disney becoming too stronk for their own good? Sound off in the comments below!

Good news: MvC is getting X-Men and Dr. Doom
Bad news: Disney turns anything they touch into shit.

  • Mr0303

I don’t see this as a good thing. While the Fox movies weren’t exactly all great I did like the different style of X-Men and Deadpool. Now we have the Disney monopoly and my fear is that they’ll turn all movies into the comedies that are the MCU films.

  • Jared Bellow

Great, now that Zootopia crossover comic with Hank Hill can be real.

  • Matz

Great, now we can delay Kingdom Hearts 3 just to include new worlds based around The Simpsons and King of the Hill

  • PaRaLLaXTHeTiCS

    Oy vey.

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

You’re not excited for Wolverine and Cyclops making sarcastic quips in every single line of dialogue?

  • Kiryu

Good to see i’m not the only one that thinks MCU movies are garbage. If you listen to the critics it’s the best thing since sliced bread, wonder how much Disney paid them.

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

I guess they can milk X-Men and Fantastic Four after the Avengers well dries up.

  • 2501

Considering how much Marvel has sabotaged X-Men & Fantastic 4 to spite Fox and MvC fans. I’d be happier with Fox keeping them but I guess they want some of that Disney money.

  • 2501

Bad news: MvC I is already trash.

  • Warrior90

While some of the Fox X-Men movies are pretty bad, the good ones are miles above the cheap
copy-paste roller coaster rides Disney keeps crapping out every year.
    R.I.P X-Men movies.

  • Shattno

I wonder how Disney will fuck this up

  • No_Good_Names_Ever
  • NukeA6

Without mentioning the roster, graphics, and the stupid DLC practices, what else was bad about the game?

  • ProtomanBlues

Thats not really “bad” news as much as its “status quo”

  • ProtomanBlues

I just saw a fan art last night of Hank Hill dressed as an orgnization member with a keyblade. I’m glad I didn’t save it.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

I don’t care how fucking shit Kingdom Hearts is and how terrible I know Kingdom Hearts III will be; I’d drop bundles just for the hilarity of a crossover containing Final Fantasy and King of the Hill inside KHs gay little universe. Simpsons fanart is gonna end up more terrible than it already is: https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d23a459042caa3899bd85db75a97a7af291d311d79a6d233e03fec44a7fc5274.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/94a17cc9392e3e66028695a0c8f1a9987299d59f3d67c708e35d045116136563.jpg

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

Marvel was shit long before Disney bought them up and Star Wars movies haven’t been good for a long time if they ever were in the first place. If anything, Disney will force Marvel and Capcom to stop shitting on its properties.

  • Mr0303

    Not particularly, no.

  • NukeA6

Are you sure about that? Marvel was never doing any of that SJW crap until 2011. I know Disney is behind all this because their movies mirror everything that has been going on. Hell, look at ESPN with all their feminist and anti-Trump horseshit. Look at Star Wars with their watered-down episode 4 filled with clear-as-day social marxist crap.

  • Baron Krause

Yeah that’s my only fear, that they will screw up Deadpool. Toning him down slightly for appearances in Avengers movies is to be expected, as long as he can still be normal in his rated R movies, IF they will even still do rated R movies.

  • Baron Krause

That would improve every aspect of Kingdom Hearts in every possible way. Without them its just a bunch of stupid Disney and Square crap in some sort of kiddie crossover, and not even the good Square crap.

  • Bitterbear

I guess this means that the next Aliens movie is going to be a lesbian romance story between the Xenomorph queen and a perky ginger woman in her late teens.

  • Matz

I don’t have an Organization XIII Hank but I’ve got this https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a278381d0bb01ae3d708eb3d4eab2ea393a069f6938a0015d4049750c01da63b.jpg

The big implications of Hank being one of the few warriors that can fight against every Xenahort clone are hilarious

  • Sean Sharpe

…the only difference between Marvel today and old Marvel, is modern Marvel can’t hold on to any decent writers.

I mean, for all people bitch about a 15 year old black girl taking over for Iron Man, it isn’t like teen-aged heroes are exactly new for Marvel. Hell, James Rhodes took the Iron Man mantle. (As in, he didn’t call himself something like Ironheart.) When Tony Stark was too busy being a lush to do anything else…

  • Sean Sharpe

I mean, Alien v. Predator was a few minutes short of a love scene between a human and a predator so… Why not?

  • Feminist Morrigan.

  • Uncle Ocelot

It’s really pathetic how so many people I know irl are unironically excited about this.

  • VersVlees

The Mouse might keep the upcoming Dead Pool movie alone but I fear the later ones will be PG-13 because Disney.

  • VersVlees

Well the Xenomorph queen is technically a Disney Princess now. So Xenomorph queen quest for the perfect nest straight to DVD animation film confirmed!

  • Snorlaxation

you’re a little late to the wake. X-Men died a while ago. The apocalypse movie was so toothless I was bored to actual (yawning) tears.

  • Snorlaxation

may as well seeing as how X-men keeps vacillating between dull and cool, and F4 has been drier than dirt with Fox controlling them.

  • Snorlaxation

Marvel may be several sea leagues above DC’s movies, but I think aside from a couple of shows, DC has the winning hand when it comes to animated movies and shows.

  • Dr. Roswell. W

I just want a Yu Yu Hakusho/King of the Hill crossover. That’s legitimately the only thing I want the most.
    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c4ca7c58faba8f5265f2e048943f274d350b1bd2620cd5d2027f53fba03d4fe1.jpg

  • Rough

I should be happy since they now have a better budget to make a potentially good movie, but for some reason I just get this feeling that they’re gonna pussify the movie rights they just bought because how Daddy Mickey works.
Hell, I wouldn;t be surprised if they change the lesser popular characters into a steaming pile of garbage like gay Iceman :/

  • Snorlaxation

X-Men has a lot that needs fixing, because ‘getting humanity to accept us’ and ‘vs Magneto’ were the most used and now overused strings in their bow, and because apocalypse was way too dull for a movie about impending doom personified. There’s plenty of room for them to be connected to the MCU especially since neither they nor Deadpool wrote themselves into a corner where it’s not possible.

But as far as Deadpool goes, that’s where all the fear belongs. Part of the movie’s appeal was the actual Stakes. The impact, the blood, the language. All of that made the movie feel more real, and allowed Deadpool to blast his way into fans hearts. Without an R rating, that’s going to be much harder.

  • Snorlaxation

iceman is fine, he needed some kind of development anyway, since relying solely on cool ice powers was wearing thin.
What everyone should be worried about is Deadpool and his future. I don’t want PG-13 for him unless the writing is FANTASTIC.

  • sanic

I already didn’t like disney acquiring marvel, now I’m more worried.

  • gwadahunter2222
  • Kiryu

What’s not to be excited to have less choice for the consumer?

  • Nin
  • Rough
  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

I’d rather Capcom own Marvel instead.

  • 2501

They won’t include X-Men characters in MvCI because Capcom said the stupidist thing you could say to a marvel fan… “Nobody remembers the X-Men”.

  • Matz

But we already had a Black Human Torch under FOX management

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

Disney may be in that shit too but they have shown restraint when it
comes to this shit while Marvel has pushed so far into SJW bullshit that
they have to force copies onto distributors to make it look like
they’re doing well before going back on their word to cut it out when
they can’t really hide it anymore. This is not because of Disney but
instead Marvels CEO who wanted to put out really cheap comics so they
hired a bunch of Tumblertards and pushed to monopolize off the PC cults. Only thing you can blame on Disney is them creating a stable environment for Marvel to live off the movie funds, the terrible cartoons, and maybe the X-Men getting shat up. Before Disneys merger, Marvel already had shit like Daken, Kate Bishop Hawkeye, female Bullseye, and no eyebrows havin’ female Loki.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

It’s not that it’s some black girl; it’s that its all about the girls gender and race which leads to a terrible story because they spend so much focus on being “progressive”. They killed off Tony just to replace him with her while Rhodes ended up in the role because Tony got pushed deep under the bottle. Also doesn’t hurt the hate that she comes off as an egocentric ass. Most everything’s written like bad fanfiction now. Hatred for teenagifying heroes on the other hand existed long before this and likely would’ve been the reason had they elected to deage Tony again instead of replacing him to “diversify” their heroes.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

DC has always ran circles around Marvel in the animation department with the only time Marvel showing any real competition being when Spectacular Spiderman, Avengers EMH, and Wolverine and the X-Men were made but those were all Sonys doing.

  • Baron Krause

At least with Star Wars, shit was an improvement.

  • David Curry

A witty comic book character who has a history of substance abuse, being played by a witty actor who has a history of substance abuse, was an interesting novelty. A bunch of superheroes teaming up was an interesting novelty. And honestly a large scale crossover that hasn’t been attempted on film will be an interesting novelty. The ideas behind the Marvel movies are innovative I’ll admit, but the movies themselves are all insanely bland and forgettable despite critics going nuts over every single one of them.

  • bdp

I just wanted them to buy the marvel stuff so i could finally get good fantastic four movies but they went and bought the whole damn thing.

  • NukeA6

To give the prequel trilogy some defense, there’s the Phantom Edits although Attack of the Clones still sucks. And the Clone War cartoons are pretty good (minus the Jar Jar episodes which are just as bad as you think they are).

  • GuyGuysonEsquire

Can’t fucking wait for all males heroes to be switched to either “stronk indepened wumyn zat nid nu maown” or soyboys and all the plots to become propaganda pieces to the ideologies that turned the West to shit. /s

  • Sean Sharpe

Again, that’s because for the most part, modern Marvel has shitty writing.

When it came out, most comic book fans liked the Arab-American Captain Marvel… Likewise, Miles Morales was met with apprehension original, but it turned out alright.

The problem is comic book editorial departments are almost always out of touch and that’s nothing new; we got the “dark age” of chains, spikes, and brooding anti-heroes because editors not understand why people liked The Watchmen or even characters like Wolverine.

So Marvel, seeing their most popular and well-received stories in recent years have had main characters replaced by a minority think that’s what people want… Instead of great art and stories.

It’s nothing new. Pisses me off, mind you, but I feel rather than blaming diversity (which is something new in comics), you should blame the suits that think because folks liked a non-white Spider-Man, they liked him because he was non-white. Just like comics in the 90’s were filled with brooding any heroes because Wolverine was one…

  • Z3DH

The mouse is long past due for an antitrust split up.

  • I always thought iceman was gay.

  • Hardcore sex scene and I am in.

  • Snorlaxation

Personally I loved x men evolution way more than wolverine and the x men

  • Snorlaxation

    CAPCOM???
They can’t even keep their resident evil series consistent, how the Hell would they handle this huge project?

  • Snorlaxation

    And then?
What happens after? How does he change if at all? Does he accept it or question it? How do others respond?

There’s a lot more to something like this than just one panel.

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

I just want a MvC with a better roster

  • Pilebunker

I don’t think Disney would allow that when they already have a working formula. Theu know how much sex sells and what the average person wants.

  • Shadowstar36

Then explain star wars the feminist awakens, or The last legit jedi, where Luke dies a coward, Poe is derided by a purple haired middle aged tumblerite feminazi. Rey having powers with little to no training. Cringe inducint dialoge and jokes that don’t fit. It currently has a 56% by audience on Rotten Tomatos, and the media press are raving about it. They even wrote articles claiming that audience voting down the scores are “Russian bots”… lmao! I shit you not, or another one saying talking about how the last jedi fights “mansplaining”… https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/12/star-wars-last-jedi-laura-dern-admiral-holdo-listen-to-women

A quote from that article: “This message—women being largely right, and men being mostly wrong—extends to most but not all aspects of The Last Jedi”

So yes Disney doesn’t care about sex selling, unless it’s gay sex, or tumbler-esque otherkins.

The Anti-American, anti-male agenda is pretty obvious in everything Disney does. Walt is rolling over in his grave.

  • Shadowstar36

I am going to hazard a guess, but the Simpsons will no longer be making fun of SJWs and Feminists… Really a shame. Where is the anti-trust law when we need it..

  • Pilebunker

Sometimes I forget how bad things really are.

  • ProxyDoug

    Wait, what?

  • ProxyDoug

I think this move is made so Marvel is assimilated by the Fox brand as Disney probably knows the Super hero bubble is going burst soon.

  • iswear12

When was the last time you watched the Simpsons?

  • Snorlaxation

Maybe now that it’s all under one umbrella (for the most part what with Sony and Spiderman) Marvel won’t feel the need to ignore or kill off the Xmen

  • Snorlaxation

how would that work if disney is going to own the stuff fox had, which will be labeled Marvel because they Own that too?

  • The Watcher

    Uncle Walt, Uncle Walt

  • ProxyDoug

    That voice acting is attrocious.

  • Tonraq Rules

It will be on MVC5…. I hope!

  • Tonraq Rules

So much salt negativity over this news. Who cares if they screw up the movies. At least I got my Xmen/F4 back in Marvel vs Capcom 5! Imgrates!
