Romancing SaGa 2 Launches for PC, PS4, PS Vita, Switch, and Xbox One on December 15

Square Enix announced the western re-release date for Romancing SaGa 2.

The remastered classic RPG will launch across PC (via Steam and Windows 10), PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch on December 15th.

While the PlayStation 4 version supports cross-save with the PS Vita version, the Xbox One version has the same feature with Windows 10.

Here’s a rundown on the game, via Square Enix:

Originally released in 1993, the landmark title in the SaGa series has players leading the Varennes Empire in battle against the Seven Heroes. A free scenario system—a hallmark of the SaGa series—enables the player to take command of a variety of protagonists along the line of imperial succession and experience the history of a nation as it grows and changes.

Key Features:

  • Updated graphics and audio
  • New character classes provide added depth and tactical possibilities to gameplay
  • New dungeon provides greater challenges
  • “New Game+” feature carries over useful character attributes and items into a new game, enabling players to obtain missed items, or save previously sacrificed lands and companions.

Square Enix is working on remastering and porting Romancing SaGa 3, which they say is between 60-70% complete.

  • Square not just sucking Sony off? Weird.

  • Michael Richardson

Looks good. I’ll go Vita or Switch with this one.

  • Mechonis

Wow they didn’t shit on the graphics for once

  • orbo

This is going on my switch.
I’m glad they went with 2d stuff instead of remaking it in 3d, something about it in minstrel song just puts me off bad and could never play more than an hour of it.

  • Go with the switch as it is still getting supported.

  • UnpluggedBeta

That is such a big deal for me; I’ll buy this both on steam and switch just for that.
    inb4 the shitty localization tho’

  • UnpluggedBeta

That’s a good sign that they’re making money in the other console markets.

  • Grampy_Bone

Would prefer an updated remake ala Minstrel Song but this still looks neat.

  • orbo

Also, I didn’t notice the part on the bottom but I’m very glad that RS3 is also getting the works.

After these the next one up on the list is SaGa Frontier.
A game I love but desperately needs a remake, if just to FINISH the woefully incomplete game.
I pray they don’t just stop at RS3 and give SF the love it needs.

I think they did a quality HD upgrade that still looks good. I hate that overly pixelated and/or overly blurry up-res and filter most 2D games get with HD upgrades. Looks like they really cared on this one.

You mentioned Vita- someone out there just got triggered.

  • sanic

    Is this a phone port?

  • PaRaLLaXTHeTiCS

    Beautiful.

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

Wow, the graphics actually look normal. I hope they could redo all the Steam ports of Final Fantasy to look like this.

  • SuperiorBeing

was playing this on my phone, christ its fucking hard. granted i beat saga frontier/romancing saga(ps2) and saga frontier 2 many times,

this game does not reward you for grinding. the enemys get stronger alot faster then you the more you grind.
