Microsoft is Literally Dropping Real-Life Lootcrates Filled With Xbox and PUBG Stuff

In the midst of an ongoing public and public official outcry towards micro-transactions and lootboxes in the gaming industry, Microsoft has announced a pretty absurd promotional campaign for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Their Xbox Australia team is dropping literal loot crates from airplanes near three of the country’s biggest cities: Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Featured above, you can view a brief promotional video for the new event.

Each crate includes 25 assorted items like Xbox One X consoles and Elite controllers, as well as Xbox Live codes and of course – download codes for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. There’s also random PUBG things stored within.

Microsoft will announce the locations of the physical loot crates and the password to unlock them via the Xbox ANZ Facebook page. The crates are being dropped on December 9th, which is the same day the passwords will be shared. There will be an Xbox staff member at each crate, and they’ll only let you unlock the crate if you know the right password.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently still in development, however it’s available via Steam Early Access and soon the Xbox Game Preview program on Xbox One (on December 12th). The PlayStation 4 version is still up in the air as developer Bluehole is reportedly in talks of extending their console exclusivity with Microsoft.

Stuff like this is pretty cool. Now if only Xbone was worth owning

  • Anonymoose

I can only see this ending in a couple of fights.

  • Rough
  • GrimFate

Huh. None of them are armed. Should make for easy picking and an easy win :D

  • NukeA6

I wanna see them drop one in a black neighborhood.

  • John Smith

    Spoiler

    It’s full of job applications

  • John Smith

how heavy are xbones? couldnt this crate crush someone to death?

  • Mr0303

Well at least they managed to put a somewhat positive spin on loot boxes.

  • Cats736

The create alone would probably be enough to crush someone.

  • Cats736

The create alone would probably be enough to crush someone.

Lmao dude imagine if blacks did a bad thing, ahaha man, racism makes me look real fucking cool.

  • iswear12

    >being this unable to handle a vague as fuck joke

  • Phasmatis75

I have an aussie who corrected this point. They still have guns over there. It’s just difficult to get one.

  • Phasmatis75

Well these events are going to be staged so no worries of that happening.

  • Phasmatis75

Racism is preferential treatment based on race either positively or negatively. For example what you just did there.

  • GrimFate

Oh, I meant the people in the video are unarmed, but I suppose it gives even more of an advantage if they couldn’t even arm themselves easily if they tried.

  • orbo

Good on them for… bringing more attention to the issue of loot crates?

pubg is “better” in that it’s all cosmetic, but why in the hell would you pull something like this when the issue of loot crates (and really anything like it) already such a big problem that EA has literally forced it to become an international regulatory problem?

  • NukeA6

While you’re at it, imagine not finding every little thing offensive. Not only did you make yourself look racist, you’re also proving the low IQ stereotype. You blew it big time.

  • entropy

By ‘dropped’, they mean carefully lowered from the back of a truck.

  • I can’t see this ending well.

  • RichardGristle

Well I guess that’s one way to get people excited over a box that says “Microsoft” on it.

  • Kessek

I wanna see them drop a load in your mom when your dad is at work.

  • NukeA6

That’s the best you can do? I’ve heard better comebacks from butthurt 14 year olds and even they take a joke better than you can.

  • Kessek

    Who’s joking?

  • Kakaku

All Semi-automatic weapons are illegal in Australia I believe. Makes for an interesting situation. For example Pump-action rifles do exist and for whatever reason pump-action shotguns are illegal.

It means jack shit if the consoles break on landing.

Videogame console packaging is usually not designed to protect the console from the shock of a parachute drop.

  • ProxyDoug

I would too, but for different reasons…

  • entropy

    Console plebs.

    Can’t even airdrop their gear.

  • Bigfatdane

Huh, I guess the X-box sales really are so piss poor that Microsoft has to resort to giving them away for free.

  • Justin Williams

Hey they are worth owning! I watch Netflix on mine while taking breaks from playing games on PS4.

  • Justin Williams

    Staged AF!

  • alterku

Is this really the place you want to announce to the world you’re into bull gangrape and cuckoldry?

  • Justin Williams

So what you are basically saying is black men are unemployed and looking to fuck someone else’s wife while white men are busy at work trying to provide for their families? Hot burn yo….

  • Justin Williams

Just the thought of it has him all net-triggered and horny.

  • Justin Williams

Your dad when he told your mom “ima pulls it out boo- I promess” and then abandoned you.

  • Justin Williams

Because it is always about being cool right?

  • Justin Williams

It would be a fucking full chimp-out riot. Bra less she-boons throwing kids out of the way, weaves being pulled out, every 3rd person holding a cell phone, recording events for “whorlstaar” and at least one trying to sue Microsoft over their own behavior.

  • Justin Williams

    Thank you!

  • Justin Williams

Jokes aside…. MS is really getting its ass kicked this time around. Note, I say this as someone who has owned every single MS console and liked and or loved them all. They have sold less than half what Sony has this gen 65mil+ to 30mil. Not good…..
