Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon Sell Over 1.2 Million Copies in Japan in First 3 Days

A new report from Famitsu has confirmed Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon sold over 1.2 million copies within the first three days of sale in Japan.

The new milestone includes both game cartridge sales and bundle sales, however it doesn’t include eShop sales figures. Actual firm sales figures come in at 1,199,814 units, however Famitsu notes the games sold more than that and rounded the figure up to 1.2 million.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon saw a worldwide launch on November 17th, for the Nintendo 3Ds.

    >tfw I fell for the Sun and Moon scam
Fucking hell I should’ve waited. At least I didn’t pay full price but this peeves me off.

  • Shinobu

And now you know why they continue to release these re-hashed versions year after year. Consumers in Japan just eat this shit up.

  • iswear12

    consumers around the world*

Pokemon has the most fickle fanbase.

When we didn’t get a third version with XY, people complained. Sun and Moon get third versions, people whine that it’s a rehash.

At some point, one has to ask: are these iterations of a Pokemon generation better off as an expansion pack rather than a full-game of its own?

  • It’s a good question. On one hand, expansions mean reduced consumer costs. But on the other, it means the DLC floodgates open up. You can only imagine the hell that’d be unleashed if Pokemon of all IPs started doing that.

  • While I get the point you’re making, the major complaint is because people prefer a “canonical” version of the two previous games by unifying it into a single game, which makes it easier for lore purposes, especially when the protagonist gets a Legendary Pokemon.

  • Travis Touchdown

No, because starting from scratch is what makes these games work.

  • SuuLoliBoob

I’m not gonna bitch because i never bought the newest pokemon. Hell, i never even bought the remake. But i might buy the newest for switch if it actually looks good.

  • Pilebunker

As much money as Pokemon prints, I wonder how much it takes to make these games. I would imagine it’s not that much.

  • Bitterbear

Hell yeah, Pokemon’s gameplay is nothing but repetitive trash unlike Fifa, Madden’, Cod, and Battlefield.

  • RetroGamer

Nothing against the game or those who buy it, but I’m going to pass it over and wait for the entirely new one on Switch.

The fact is that the 3DS era is not good compared to the DS era. The improved mechanics is most welcome but it doesn’t make up for the poor postgames, blatant Gen 1 pandering and rushed games.

  • 3DS still continues to rape the Vita. Hahahahaha!

  • The game looks like a ps1 game.

  • They are all casual trash games.

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

Each game is made for a new generation.

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

DS era on a technical scale was the most bland, it still looked like a continuation of the GBA games.

I do agree that the post game was lacking in the 3DS era, but at least the core games felt fresher, and US/UM made up for it by adding awesome post game content.

  • Shinobu

I’ll never forget how disappointed I was when I first booted up Diamond/Pearl. My god was that thing a mess to look at.

  • Zanard Bell

Iterations, my friend. Like how Crystal is just an ‘upgrade’ from Gold and Silver.

  • Zanard Bell

DLC I can live with. Like a shiny legendary quest, or some cosmetic items (yep, I know where this may lead) for your Pokemon. At most a new area to open up or some new minigames.

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

Crystal was radically different. The sprites animate for a second in battle.

  • Zanard Bell

And that necessitates a new game? Granted, the tech in that era prevented downloadable upgrades to your videogame, but will you excuse that if Pokemon Crystal was released this generation?

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

    I was being sarcastic lol

  • Squirrel on crack cocaine.

But why? Isn’t it just the same game as last year?

  • BFG

Who would have thought that something that cater to mass audiences, instead of niche, end up selling so well

they weren’t “Bad” but it’s like
i’m not fucking buying the same game again for full price
