Official Vanilla Servers Coming via World of Warcraft Classic

After many fan attempts, campaigns, petitions, and more – Blizzard has finally announced they’re launching classic, vanilla-style World of Warcraft servers.

The new servers are coming as World of Warcraft Classic, news confirmed at this year’s Blizzcon. Featured above, you can view the announcement trailer for the new version of the MMORPG.

Further details weren’t confirmed, however Blizzard confirmed the new throwback version of the game is actively in development.

Vanilla is racist, Bill Nye told me. Buy the newest expansion.

  • Mr0303

For the life of me I didn’t expect a remaster of an MMO before it was dead.

  • Gale

    WTF I love WoW now!

  • InkViper

Oh, so now they finally listen to the fans!

  • Captain Vidya

I guess the fans really did want it.

Well,I’ll try this out.For lore reasons.Right now the old zones are a mess.

  • Psyramics

I never understood the desire for this. Classic WoW was a mess, full of poorly thought out, half-baked ideas.

  • Madbrainbox

Yeah.I think they should’ve went in a different direction with this.Incorporate it in the base game for once.Use that timewalking feature they turn on and off into a permanent thing.Extend it to the open world.Make it so that the bast majority of the areas don’t simply feel like a bloody walking sim.

I honestly didn’t expect it at this point.
They’ve certainly shown no interest in doing it since shutting down nostalrius over a year ago, and with the infamous “you think you want it, but you don’t” comment they clearly didn’t even know what their own players wanted.

I’ve said I’ll play vanilla wow of they did it, but they’ve sure had to take their time getting around their inflated egos to get there.

I think what happened is a lot of the old guard Wow devs kinda left and they brought over people from Diablo 3. I think it has improved the game.

  • RichardGristle

Yet it was still easily WoW’s peak.

Really the only people that didn’t like it were people that weren’t good enough to be in a high-end raiding guild.

  • Paige

God I hope blizz doesnt fuck it up.

  • Tubsiwub

I loved Burning Crusader. Original WoW was a bit… too barren. I’ll wait for more details (such as a BC server) before getting too excited. I’ll definitely play BC again.

  • Psyramics

No it wasn’t. Different parts of WoW peaked at different times, but Classic wasn’t it for all of them.

Leveling past 30 required a guide to get through without grinding.
    The PVP system was atrocious.
    Class balance was atrocious.
There was no build diversity. Entire trees were written off as trash.

Early raid mechanics were extremely bare-bones. Raids got better over time, but that trend continued long past Classic.

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

First Jagex and now Blizzard, nice.

  • G. H.

Does this mean a return of 40 Character raids?

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

They’re gonna fuck this up in some way just like everyone else that tries to get their original audiences money.

    >Really the only people that didn’t like it were people that weren’t good enough to be in a high-end raiding guild.

Oh yeah, I remember being 9-12 hours raiding. Just after spending around 6 farming to get mats for my consumables. Just so then I could see 3-5 items drop for the whole 40 man raid. Repeat that for weeks and months until it was your turn to actually get something from all those raids.

Oh man, i sure as hell miss those days!

Also the completely jack shit balancing of classes, with all of them having one viable build and even just one viable spect in some cases. The terrible Weapon leveling system that forced you to spam left click for hours in low level mobs just so you could use that new weapon you just got.

“It was WoW peak” my ass. Talk about blinded by nostalgia.

  • AnarKreig

I approve. I’ll be playing both classic and live.

  • Thesimpleway

I’m happy for the people who fought for that.

But to be honest, even though I played until Naxx – I don’t want to return. All the quality of life stuff we’ve been getting spoiled me too much to return back.

  • Dawn Blast

City of Heroes was better…despite what NCSoft believes.
