Super Mario Odyssey Sells Over 2 Million Units in First 3 Days

Nintendo has announced Super Mario Odyssey has sold over two million copies since its launch.

The new milestone was reached only three days since its launch on last Friday, October 27th.

In related news, Nintendo also confirmed the Switch console itself has sold over 7.63 million units since its launch in March of this year.

I ended up going on a 12 hour binge playing this game, it has been a long time since i’ve done that. It’s pretty darn good.

    Not surprising. Good for N.

  • Tubsiwub

Game’s good, although I prefer SM64 and Sunshine compared. I did play a ton of it, beating it at a relatively casual pace over the course of 3 days.

  • Anon_Amous

Here they go, off the rails. Don’t you know it’s time to raise their sales.

  • Mechonis

Deserves it too. It’s not Galaxy stupidity

  • sanic

Should see it in the mail tomorrow, hope theres no mexican mario in it to offend me deeply.

  • SLoWMoTIoN

To bad Mario doesn’t get any.

  • Ouch! That got to hurt the Vita fans. Lol

  • Malascus

They even took his plumber job from him

  • Malascus

It’s profit like you never knew.

  • magicalfollower

Doing better than Sonic, that’s for sure.

  • deadmancrawling

That was a misunderstanding. Nintendo said he was a plumber when talking about Super Mario Brothers for the NES, they never said he stopped being one.
And thank god for that. It’s already pretty crap that Miyamoto said Mario was 25 years old. For one of the most unique characters in all of gaming to become another generic adventurer would be pretty sad.

I’m no saying Forces or/and Mania together are gonna sell more than that (I’m pretty sure they won’t) but the game is not even out yet.

  • SuuLoliBoob

Did you look at the Sonic forces demo? Not saying the demo is always gonna give you a proper experience, but damn does it look and play bad

  • Our prayers for a bankrupt Nintendo once again go unanswered. Thanks, cucks.

I’ll sooth the pain with the extensive library of games, no biggie.

  • Matz

    Don’t you mean PS4 users?
I believe that many Vita users have moved to PS4

  • Matz

What happens when Nintendo actually tries to make a good game for once, I hope they keep making great games like this instead of more New Super Mario Bros, ARMS or the upcoming Yoshi game, games that are not that bad but they get boring after a few hours and definitely aren’t meant to be full-priced games

  • Squirrel on crack cocaine.

Feminazi Frequency will say this is proof of white privilege somehow and Peach is still a victim of patriarchy.

  • Travis Touchdown

ARMS is better than Super Mario Odyssey.

  • Michael Richardson

If you hate platformers, maybe. Otherwise, it’s vastly preferable for most people, me included.

And no one will care. ’cause they only people that actually pay any attention to what she has to say are her diehard followers and the people that dedicated their life to hating her.

  • Sean Sharpe

Mario doesn’t give a shit. He gets sexual gratification by chasing adrenaline.

  • Snorlaxation

    That’s been true for years

  • Snorlaxation

    Did someone call me?

  • Travis Touchdown

No reason you can’t buy both.

  • Michael Richardson

True enough. ARMS doesn’t have enough content to justify its asking price, though. IMO, of course.

  • Bitterbear

It’s like a slap in the face to those who said that single player games don’t sell anymore.

  • chaoguy

    Reviews say, it’s a gas
Say the word, and we’ll take your cash
You could say we’re making money like a jew

  • Malcolm_Ecks

Who says that? What moron? I haven’t seen that anywhere in a long ass time.

  • Malcolm_Ecks

Only hurts people who can only afford one console. So teens. Stop trolling teens.

  • Bitterbear

EA when they went for damage control after they killed the single-player (and the Visceral Games developer) Star Wars game in favour of multiplayer. Oh, and the other gaming outlets that parroted that excuse.

  • Furluge

I agree and I bought it. It is a game that deserves a more fleshed out sequel though.

  • The switch has only been out for a few months and is already more successful than the Vita which has been out for almost 6 years. The Vita is a failure just like the Wii U. ha!

  • Michael Richardson

Special events and a fleshed out story mode ala Splatoon would make it a lot more attractive to me. And yeah, I hope they do something with the IP: some of the characters have really fun designs.

  • Malcolm_Ecks

“EA when they went for damage control after they killed the single-player (and the Visceral Games developer) Star Wars game in favour of multiplayer.”

So when they killed a game from a frankly under performing game dev and make an MP Star Wars game that went on to sell 13 million +?

I know its cool to hate EA but can we at least do so within a realm of reality? Games like GTA, COD, Battlefield and a lot of franchises outsell this Mario game’s rate every fall.

  • Zombie_Barioth

While I agree about this particular case with EA, there’s an obvious difference between those games doing extraordinarily well, and single-player games “not selling”. GTA in particular isn’t even bought primarily for it’s multi-player like those other games, it built it’s reputation on great single-player content.

Not to mention you’re comparing a single-platform exclusive game to ones released on almost everything. Mario isn’t exactly alone here.

The issue isn’t that they “don’t sell”, the real issue is the companies cherry-picking information to support a narrative and their own business decisions. It isn’t just EA parroting these kind of sentiments.

Is the issue really single-player games, or is it simply the developer? Is it all Visceral’s fault, or is EA throwing them under the bus? Who knows, but there’s certainly some confirmation bias taking place.

  • Malcolm_Ecks

My point was more to point out the ridiculousness of saying that EA said “Fuck single player games” because a Mario title sold well like one always does upon release.

Maybe I should have made that point better.

  • Travis Touchdown

It’s a fighting game. You play it endlessly to try and get better.

There’s a reason Street Fighter2 has remained so popular over the years.

  • Bitterbear

The thing is, it was a Star Wars game, so of course its going to sell. They can sell literal dog shit molded in the shape of the Millennium Falcon and people will gobble it all up by the millions.

Look at the remake they made of Star Wars Battlefront. It’s mediocre compared to the original and it still managed to sell 12+ million copies.

  • Bitterbear

In EA’s defence, I guess that the only non-Nintendo game that still manages to sell well years after is GTA V.

  • Kessek

    ARMS is fucking garbage.

  • Zombie_Barioth

I got what you were saying, but they were one of the companies doing that, and games like Mario certainly do prove there is a market for these types of games. As does Assassin’s Creed, Resident Evil 7, Wolfenstein, and so on.

You’d have to be willfully blind/ignorant not to see that there are just as many big, successful single-player games.

The key difference there is they can’t monetize them like they can multi-player games.

  • Anon630

I’m hoping it means more Christian Sonic games. Just based on the confusion from the panel at the anniversary in regards to adventure 3 told me everything I needed to know regarding Sonic Team’s desire to put in effort into Modern Sonic.

  • Farwin

Just imagine if they made a 2D Mario with the care and attention they gave Oddesy and not the “New!” crap they keep trying to pawn off on us.

  • josiah washington

It’s like a slap in the face to those who said that single player games don’t sell anymore.

I played it and it controls just fine. The only problem with the demo is that stupid timer.

Video games are interesting in that sequels often are better than the originals imho. Sometimes you need the perspective of customer engagement to shake out the kinks in your game systems and recognize your flaws.

Arms could have easily sold as a 40-20 dollar title as is I think, however.

  • Michael Richardson

$40 would have been a good price point for it.

  • Loli de 42 spoilers de Sonic

I don’t see a problem with how it plays. I’ve been playing unleashed again recently and forces didn’t feel all that different from it.
The only real problem with the demo was that time limit.

  • Loli de 42 spoilers de Sonic

So… did a Vita kill your dog or something like that?

  • Nah I just like removing trash from the gaming industry. I did the same with the Wii U.

  • you heard me.
