Nintendo Switch Hardware Sales Top 2 Million Units in the USA

Nintendo has announced total hardware sales for the Nintendo Switch have topped two million units in the United States.

The new milestone was reached since the hybrid console launched on March 3rd of this year, and only includes the United States. In comparison, hardware totals for Europe and Japan are roughly 1.5 million each.

Nintendo also pointed out the Switch was the highest selling console in the United States for three months straight, including this past September. This was also the fifth time overall in seven months since its launch that it was the highest selling console.

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

2 million Switches, and no games

  • Uncle Ocelot

I wonder what the total sales are worldwide now.

  • SuuLoliBoob

Hey, that’s more games then the PS4

  • Uncle Ocelot

So about 5 million in total so far then. Not bad for the first six months, the next few months are gonna be important ones.

  • SuuLoliBoob

definitely when November and December roll around and we start getting sales for the Switch and the games.

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

Hey it has Bloodborne! And uh, well I got Gundam Breaker 3 I guess.

  • Uncle Ocelot

In a way the first few months are kind of a prelude to the “real launch” since most people are probably waiting for Christmas to get it.

  • Travis Touchdown

    Sales don’t matter.

  • Rob

Unit sales don’t really mean much when there’s no software worth playing on it.

To the consumer, that is. Nintendo obviously don’t give a shit; they’ve suckered the public again, so it’s all good for them.

  • Funtime Happysnacks

This meme hasn’t been true for literally 5 years

also did bloodborne ever even sell more than 2 million copies? that’s not even a fraction of 70 million console sales

  • SuuLoliBoob

Quick, name me three ps4 exclusives and i’ll name you five Switch exclusives!

    Mario Odyssey
    XenoBlade Chronicles 2
    Mario + Rabbids: Xcom edition

And that’s only counting the games that already are/is coming out this year, we still have other games like a mainline pokemon game, a fire emblem game and Metroid prime game coming out next year, or at least, that’s what nintendo says.

Anyways, what does the ps4 really have other then Bloodborn and The Order? It took them literally 3 fucking years just for those two, and one them was just down right awful.

  • NukeA6

How about Persona 5? The Last Guardian? inFAMOUS Last Son? Uncharted 4? Yakuza 0? I don’t even have a PS4 yet and I know more exclusives than what the Switch has and that’s not even counting unreleased games and ports which Nintendo is also guilty of.

  • SuuLoliBoob

    >How about Persona 5?

Pretty sure that’s for PS3 as well.

    >The Last Guardian?

Oh yeah, i forgot about it after 7+ years

    >inFAMOUS Last Son? Uncharted 4?

    Fair enough.

    >Yakuza 0?

Pretty sure Sega mentioned that they wanted to bring the series to to the PC, though, since they haven’t yet, i’ll count it.

Okay, so that’s about 6 exclusives Sony has for the ps4 and about four more on the way if counting The last of us 2, the other zombie game, God of War and Spiderman.

That’s still pretty bad when you think about the fact that it took NIntendo almost a year just to pretty much Catch to Sony’s 5 year advantage on a new console.

  • shibadogy

I dont think those exclusives are what should make a Switch owner proud

  • shibadogy

That reasoning could be reversed tbh

Lot of games in Switch are multiplat, but let’s say in my instance that I already own a Vita, PC and a PS4 the absolute madman, what should appeal me to get a Switch? I’m into (imported) niche japanese games mainly and Nintendo has really lost its touch over the last couple of years (among destroying the Mario RPG and Fire Emblem franchise for example, and pushing even more those amiibo thingies) so first-party is not much a marketing argument to me.

  • SuuLoliBoob

    >what should appeal me to get a Switch?

Nothing? I don’t know, didn’t realize i was telling anyone to get a switch. I’m just pointing out that nintendo is already catching up with Sony and Microsoft in terms of exclusive games. If you don’t like nintendo games, then you won’t like the switch. Easy enough to understand. The only other thing that might entice you is the portability of the switch.

  • NukeA6

Persona 5 was released on the PS3 at the same time as the PS4 so it’s no port. Plus, it’s not on Xbone or Switch so it’s still a Sony exclusive until it goes on PC.

  • Matz

Why was I expecting a response like that?

  • Matz

The big difference when you actually think your strategy for a new console and what king of market you’re aiming for, Nintendo never put enough thought when they released the Wii U and 3DS, they were expecting people to buy both consoles just because the name and they failed horrible, at least the Wii U because Nintendo managed to save the 3DS when it was needed

Also Nintendo at least is putting some effort with their games this time, Mario Odyssey will move a bunch of consoles just because Nintendo it’s actually making a great Mario game with enough content this time

  • shibadogy

Im saying exclusives arent much an argument if they dont hold up themselves (especially Mario Rabbids)

The only other thing that might entice you is the portability of the switch.

It’s too big compared to previous handhelds and it has a poorer battery life than my ds lite and vita slim. .

The problem is that the Switch is trying to appeal two completely different audiences (the handhelds players and the home systems ones) by making many comprises. It’s too big and “powerful” as a handheld (they used to be low power devices that focused on gameplay primarily, as they couldnt get away like home consoles to sell on graphics to appeal the masses) and it doesnt the raw firepower of current home consoles with the gimped Tegra proc. (it might be enough for the average japanese game but Nintendo is also trying to appeal with mainstream AAA games)

And the other issue is Sony being the retarded kid that wont acknowledge their handheld department (attitude which might change with the new CEO but that’s merely a hypothesis) so all the small jap devs that made great stuff for the psp and vita have nowhere to go. Nintendo has the worst licensing fees and we know what happened to Neverland Co and Imagepooch.

For handheld fans it’s a very troubling situation

  • shibadogy

the 3ds still succeeded with Zelda,Fire Emblem Pokemon and Monster Hunter mainly though

I personally considered it was a worse console than the ds lite however

  • Funtime Happysnacks

are you seriously listing snipperclips, why not throw in 1-2 switch while you’re at it

  • totenglocke

Oh look, another dumbass insisting that the Switch has no games when it has an insanely large library for a system only seven months old. Your trolling is bad, and you should feel bad.

  • totenglocke

Persona is never coming to PC. Atlus has made this very clear that the core Persona games are Sony exclusive.

  • shibadogy

when it has an insanely large library for a system only seven months old

There is trolling and there is delusion. This is the latter.

  • Nintendo is really killing it. Sony should be more afraid.

  • Wii was still the worse console Nintendo made.

  • You have issues with both. :)

  • Only if you are Sony apparently.

  • Why get a Vita? Vita is dead.

  • Sorry kid but only a retarded kid would want to continue keeping the Vita alive at this point.

  • True Goddess Reincarnation

2 million because of the lack of units on the sales floor. Wait until the Mario bundles arrive.

  • shibadogy

I’ve been hearing that one since 3 years, despite the year 2015 and 2016 were the periods where there were a lot of releases for Vita. 2017 has been slower, but we still got Dungeon Travelers 2-2, Shiin, Shin Yomawari, Omega Labyrinth Z and Super Robot Wars V and (obviously) the usual visual novels.

Not like that would stop you to continue trolling like some kind of screeching autistic kid I guess

  • Ironic that you would call anyone autistic kid. lol
PC,PS4, AND SWITCH are getting what little games Vita has. Upgrade and drop the shitty system child. :)

  • Person Man

I own and love my Vita still, but when the creator drops any real support, it’s pretty much just dead. Sure, the Game Boy Color still got games when the Advance was released, but it’s was dead then just like the Vita, PS3, Wii-U, Xbox 360 is dead now.

Also half the games you mentioned are going to be on PS4.

  • shibadogy

“games, on a system i absolutely dont like for no reason, dont exist since a couple of them are multiplat”

Yeah I was expecting that one. I dont know why i even bother arguing with you. That’s also why i told earlier saying “the switch has nogames” is trolling but that multiplats arent also appealing if you already own a or several system(s) that have them.

and the PC platform rarely have the japanese games in jap when ported over there too

  • shibadogy

but when the creator drops any real support, it’s pretty much just dead

Re-read my comment you’ve repied to.

Also half the games you mentioned are going to be on PS4.

Those vita games still exist even if they often tend to be paired with ps4 together.
Just because you prefer the big screen home system version doesnt nullfiy the other (unless it’s koei tecmo but that company has trouble to understand what is optimization regardless of the platform)

  • orbo

You always have to keep in mind the massive asterisk “except non exclusives” when they say the switch has no games.
And if the switch was just another console like the ps4 and xbone in which its only gimmick was more flops per second then it would be valid.
But the switch is portable and that’s something games on the other two system will never have.

Then there’s the salty babies crying about their games being ported from the wiiu onto the switch.
“it doesn’t count because its on the wiiu!” they cry.
    But it does.
BotW might not be exclusive to the switch, but guess what? Not a single person is buying a wiiu to play it. They’re buying a switch.
Did you know BotW had a 102% attach rate to the switch on the first month of release?

But you cannot explain this to them, they are blinded by their buyers remorse for the wiiu.

  • Malcolm_Ecks

Yakuza, Bloodbourne, Gravity Rush, Uncharted, God of War, Persona 5, etc. The PS4 has a bunch of exclusives fam, stop kidding yourself.

  • totenglocke

Please learn to read. I said “insanely large library FOR A SYSTEM ONLY SEVEN MONTHS OLD”. Most consoles haven’t even had 1/4 of the games that you can buy for the Switch in their first year, let alone just the first seven months with plenty more on the way in the next few months. I play on all systems because my desire is to play good games, not to fanboy over a specific brand. I’ve never bought so many games in the launch window for a console as I did for the Switch and I’ve been gaming since before half the readers of this site were born.

  • totenglocke

I’d say it’s more butthurt Xbox fans (since Xbox hasn’t had a single exclusive in what…two years? three years?) than people who regret buying a Wii U. Almost everyone I know who owns a Wii U either already owns a Switch or is planning to get one in the near future. I picked up a Switch at launch and have no problem with the option of rebuying my Wii U games with additional content or better graphics.

  • Person Man

I don’t prefer anything, but if what you’re mostly getting is lesser ports, you’re about as alive as any past generation console at this point. Let’s face it, Koei Tecmo is not the only one guilty of making a Vita port that runs sluggishly compared to the console version.

The last PS2 game was released in like, 2013. Was the PS2 still alive for all those years? That’s an exaggeration, but when there’s little to no market growth for the Vita, no new adopters, no new versions, advertising – anything, I just can’t rightly see that as alive.

  • Matz

I still own my Vita, a great handheld and I still like it, but to be frank the console has passed its expiration date, many titles that were handheld-only have been getting PS4/Switch/PC versions that are clearly much better.

Still is a great device for that Remote Play with PS4, I enjoyed Persona 5 a lot more in the VITA and I can still enjoy Danganronpa lying in the bed or couch thanks to that feature

  • If Nintendo is smart enough to have a mario bundle. They didn’t do a bundle with Botw.

  • By that logic PS4 has no games as the PS4 has little exclusives.

  • Wii U is a failure.

  • You know he is retarded right? He can’t read.

  • Persona 5 is on PS3 and plays better on PC fam.

  • Persona 5 is on ps3 and the last guardian is garbage.

  • Already is on PC. :)

  • Hehehehe.

  • You autistic Vitafags continue to cry as Vita lose more games to PC, switch and PS4. HA!

  • PC gets far more Jap games than Vita. I wonder how salty you will be when you realize God eater 3 won’t be on Vita but will be on PC. :)

  • orbo

That’s sure how people complaining about no games on the switch seem to think.
btw I think the xbone has zero exclusives at all, if you’re taking pc versions into account.

  • InkViper
  • orbo

Definitely. It launched a few months after christmas of last year so it didn’t get the holiday rush, but they’ve been stocking up a ton more and christmas is only about two months away now.
For it to have gotten five million sales by now is good sales, what it will get over the holidays and the months following the new year for a full year after release.
I bet it easily more than doubles its current number.

  • Shinobi Refle.

  • And the bundle is more than game+console and comes with a digital code.

  • SuuLoliBoob

    I don’t know, you’re a wizard?

  • SuuLoliBoob

Okay, just switch it out with Splatoon 2 then.

  • Bitterbear

You got it backwards. There are plenty of games for the Switch, but there are no Switches to play those games.

  • Bitterbear

Sony hates money more than Nintendo, otherwise they would have focused on gameplay like they used to, and use pretty lesbian characters instead of palette/race swaps of Batwu.

  • Zombie_Barioth

Which is why Atlus tried to go after RPCS3 for using P5 to promote it, right?

Having to use a 3rd-party emulator to play it in any capacity says otherwise, you wouldn’t need the emulator in the first place if it was legitimately supported.

  • Either way I can play it at 4k at 60fps if I want.

  • it took this long for Nintendo to finally bundle a game with the switch!? Finally!

  • shibadogy

Koei Tecmo cant make a proper optimized game for a while. I have Blue Reflection on PS4 and the game still got framerates slowdowns even during dialogues (not a dealbreaker but it’s also obvious it’s not supposed to be a heavy game either). I recall the PC version being temporarily screwed with an unavoidable bug, but that’s been fixed apparently from what I’ve heard.

You wont have proof that the recent japanese releases have been “lesser ports” outside of KT.

Also I could throw the argument that the PSP got a good amount of japanese releases between 2010-2013 when the thing been dropped in the West. Which is exactly what’s been happening for the Vita.

  • shibadogy

I’m not salty because I have still games to play on my Vita, especially with what’s been released so far

Unlike a certain someone who have more money than sense to buy 5000 games on PC and barely play a sixty of them in the course of 5 years

  • shibadogy

yeah but like I said, games that get a Switch counterpart (like Proton 3, NIS princess titles, Puyo Puyo Tetris) wont make me buy a Switch since I already have a portable system for those.

People sure love to throw the wrench on the vita, as if the “portability” factor suddenly didnt exist (specifically when talking about PC/PS4 counterparts), but somehow get applied on the Switch in the same course of discussion.

  • shibadogy

That still do not define what you meant by “insanely large”.

And we’ve been living for a while in a period where consoles no longer need to have a striking launch/1st year lineup in order to sell. The PS4 proved that.

Good for you to get interested in video games regardless of platforms. However I do hope you’re not a GameZard-lite by buying “so many games” but only play a few of them, just because you’re more focused on showing off your “gamer creed” than anything

  • shibadogy

isnt that more or less a tech demo with just Asuka?
    no Homura no buy

  • shibadogy

He should start playing the 5k games in his steam library first (instead of a mere 1%) before wanting more stuff released on PC to be honest

  • Rob

I never said it had no games.

I said it had hardly any games worth playing, which remains true since 99% of what has been released for the Switch are ancient ports of shit that everyone has already played in superior quality on other systems.

Wait and I’ll run out to buy a Switch to play ARMs and nothing fucking else m8

  • It’s a visual novel with mini-games.

  • You are so salty that I have an expensive gaming rig and more games than you would ever have. I love it when you Vitafags are jealous of me. Stay salty child as the Vita continue to have no games. HA! :)

  • shibadogy

I also own a gaming rig but not everyone call themselves GameZard who consider buying games as nothing more than a social status to show off with other sycophants

  • Prove it bitch! Post a screenshot of your rig with listed specs. Also post a link to your steam account.

  • InkViper

No, I believe there was a splatoon 2 and Mario Kart bundles as well.

  • shibadogy
  • Ruggarell

The only fucking post I will ever agree with you on.

  • Ruggarell
  • You need to read more of my post then.

  • That proves nothing bitch. Where are your PC specs and steam account? Stop running away from me!

  • Person Man

Good point about KT. Although I hear their crossover musou thing ran well on PC at least.

Fair about the Japanese releases – I haven’t played them/heard about them! All I know are the recent Western releases, and most of the 3D ones/some indies have had some issues or drawbacks.

And honestly, I would say the PSP was dead around that time. Maybe it’s just semantics with wording, but that’s just how I see it.

  • shibadogy
  • True Goddess Reincarnation

Negro it has been up for pre order for 2 months now.

  • Max Owlie
  • I’m surprise that mario gets a bundle but not the more popular Zelda.

  • Matz

No, it just that when somebody asks for good games for a specific platform somebody else comes and gives a good list of actually good games and the one who asked in the first place always comes with the counter-argument of “They don’t count because I say so”
