Fortnite Breaks 7 Million Total Players

Epic Games has announced Fortnite has surpassed 7 million total players since its launch back in July of this year.

The game’s new milestone has blown past its first real numbers in August, when it was sitting around one million player accounts.

It’s worth mentioning these are not concurrent numbers, rather total number of player accounts. Since the game is free to play (you can pony up for paid version that have all content unlocked) we’re expecting the number to balloon more.

Fortnite is now available for PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our review for the game here.

So 6 million were made for the battle royale mode then.

    Pretty much.

They should thank Bluehole for marketing their Br mode for them.

Must be those PS4 dudes desperate for some PUBG.

I downloaded the Battle Royal mode and played it for a few hours. It’s definitely interesting and very addicting, though it became pretty apparent that if you want a chance at actually winning you need to come across a sniper rifle and be pretty good at aiming it…which requires some practice as not only do you need to lead shots but you also have to account for bullet drop-off. But given that it’s up to chance that you even come across a sniper rifle, it makes it rather hard to actually practice with it.

Either that or I just suck at the game.

Am looking forward to the drama that will ensue when MS announces an extended console exclusivity.

And through total coincidence the most vocal complaints will turn out to come from the same folk who kept shouting that Sony never does such shady deals, and that Nioh and FFX+2HD (as well as XII:TZA) were sitting ready on Steam servers for over a year for no good reason.

  • AnarKreig

Seven million that tried and passed on the game.

Source in Nioh sitting on servers? Not that I don’t believe you, but where did you hear this?

I gave the BR mode a try since you can play it online even without a Plus Membership (dunno about XB1), was alright but gets boring rather fast, my best run was 7th place with 3 kills.

    SteamDB, of course:

Here’s FFX/X-2 for posterity as well:
