New Sonic Forces Gameplay Shows Off Classic Sonic and Custom Character Action

Sega has released a pair of gameplay videos for Sonic Forces.

Featured below, the two new gameplay videos showcase both the “classic” Sonic the Hedgehog playing style, as well as the custom avatar that players can make and play as over Sonic.

You can find both gameplay videos below:

The precursor to Sonic ForcesSonic Mania, is available now for PC, Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find my review for that game here (I absolutely love and recommend the game!). Sonic Forces launches on November 7th in North America and Europe across PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.

During the classic sonic footage- nearly every time he came to a raised bit of ground- there was a spring to launch him up. Sure you still lose your momentum, and the first time it’s almost understandable as a warning. But it really does show the differences in design between Mania and this. Mania doesn’t mind if the player makes mistakes, and has to overcome them. Forces knows those who buy it will only play it once.

I don’t think these videos are new.

  • Rumble Red

They aren’t. I think the Classic Sonic one was some of the first Forces gameplay they showed off, and the Avatar one’s from… E3, I think?

Did it show off that sweet Denuvo malware in the PC version?

The custom character stage flows pretty good, but there are a bit too many explosions, which is a bit distracting.

  • Uncle Ocelot

Wait a minute, these are old videos. Maybe the Japanese account has only now got around to uploading them?

  • Uncle Ocelot

A little bit before. I like how it’s still only a 30 second clip when there’s been full stage playthroughs for months.

Either you’re forgetting about OC Donuts or the gameplay has been revealed to be trash.

Seems like they’re doubling down in the wake of Mania, Mania shits over 4 so they gotta make sure Classic in Forces has more to do with it than Mania, the shit level designs and physics are reminiscent of it too look at all the boost pads, notice how the player never manually rolls because like Generations and 4 the physics shit the bed whenever you do that. The music also makes what has to be a deliberate reference to Splash Hill so it seems very much they can’t get over how that vision of “classic Sonic failed, this is really frustrating given Hataya’s work not only on CD but Generation’s classic mixes.

It’s the ghost of Lost World haunting it, that game had hidden springs used just like that constantly, momentum can’t exist when you have boost pads making sure you never need to worry about it for every single set piece. They didn’t need boost pads in Generation’s Green Hill Act 1 so why are they needed here?

OC Donuts don’t care about actually playing the games they only care about editing it’s awful cutscenes into movies, making terrible fan fics/art and reeeeing over bad Sonic games being called bad Sonic games, that last part in particular is hilarious you can look up any Mania song on Youtube and you’ll find someone in the comments going on how about how their a special snowflake because they think 06 isn’t absolute dogshit.

  • OldPalpy

But they gotta do it you see if they don’t they will lose sales by putting in Denuvo which will uh cause them to lose sales and create a lot of negative buzz. Alternately it won’t have it without explanation and my speculation is that someone at Sega wants hold back Mania’s success, notice how they refuse to give it a physical release why would they hate making guaranteed cash like that?

Classic Sonic looks like ass compared to Mania. I feel like they shouldn’t have bothered with the classic stages.
