10 Minutes of Secret of Mana Remake Gameplay

Square Enix has shown off some new gameplay for their recently announced Secret of Mana 3D remake.

Featured above, the ten minutes of gameplay come from this year’s PAX West expo.

Square Enix is likening the game as a “faithful remake of one of the greatest RPGs of all time,” while also promising new 3D visuals, full voice-overs, and improved gameplay.

Secret of Mana is launching digitally across PC, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita worldwide on February 15th, 2018.

Surprised they kept the attack 0-100% power mechanic.

  • blackice85

That and the increasingly long charge times as you’d level up your weapons got to be annoying later on. It’s one of the big improvements that Seiken Densetsu 3 made in my opinion.

  • ChazDragoon

“faithful recreation”…except for the Tiger Suit/Bikini…originally buyable armor from Northtown, now DLC fashion ware.

Cutting out content to sell it back. GG Squeenix.

I doubt they’ll actually affect the game in any way but cosmetic. But yeah, it’s bullshit and people shouldn’t pre-order anyway.

  • blackice85

I wondered about that too, maybe this is something separate that’s just a cosmetic aspect? You’re correct those were armors though.

  • Dom The Elegy

When the remake was first teased I thought they were going to redo the entire soundtrack like they did Fear of the Heavens for the reveal trailer. What a massive letdown.

  • Grampy_Bone

Yeah, realistically you’re never going to use most of your charge skills. Anything past 2 or 3 levels is too tedious and there’s nothing in the game that requires it.

  • ChazDragoon

If the armors are there with no visual effect, then good. (it’d be nice if they actually mentioned that detail if it’s true). Though the Moogle suit DLC is a new set of armor/costume…so i dunno. =/

  • ChazDragoon

place your bets on “arranged soundtrack DLC”

  • blackice85

The worst was when you’d charge up really high only for it to miss. I think you could also lose it if you took a hit (or maybe only a really strong one? I forget).

  • blackice85

Come to think of it, that could be confusing if the armors themselves still had no visual effect, but there were cosmetic armors with the same names.

  • blackice85

I wouldn’t bet against it. I really wish they’d have just localized the Secret of Mana collection for the switch instead of remaking this.

  • Eldhin Hellknight

the boss fight was a lot shittier than the original. Also… is there any reason to have a mini map?

  • Dom The Elegy

I wouldn’t actually mind this. I mean it absolutely should be in the game from the get go and I wouldn’t pay money to get it there but it’d mean that there is a recording of it with an orchestra that I could get my hands on.

Also on that note, the Japanese special edition comes with the soundtrack. Bet people gonna feel mighty ripped off when it turns out it’s just 20+ year old MIDI files.
