Yu Suzuki: Shenmue III Teaser Trailer Character Models are WIP

Ys Net finally gave us a proper look at Shenmue III, their Kickstarter-funded threequel to the iconic Asian action-drama series, with a feature-length trailer showcasing the game’s latest visuals.

Fans seemed to be a bit divided over how the game’s character models looked – some noting they’re shaping up to how the original designs appeared, while others said they need more work. Series creator Yu Suzuki and executive producer Hideaki Morishita talked up the character models, noting they’re a work-in-progress in an interview with Game Spark.

“Shenhua, Ryo, and other character models are mostly temporary,” Suzuki noted when told fans expressed concerns over the models. “Shenhua still has to be worked on.” Suzuki then pointed to other characters, noting “This is a character that’s almost finished. This one’s temporary. This one is also temporary.”

Morishita noted that the characters that are shown in the trailer are mostly temporary as well, saying that he’s worried there might be some misunderstanding with fans because of it.

Both Suzuki and Morishita noted that the trailer was meant to basically say “We’re still making Shenmue III. Please don’t forget it!”, while also nodding to their new publishing alliance with Deep Silver. They promised that their team is working hard on the game, and that the trailer was meant to show off their work in progress, and not a finished product.

Shenmue III is launching for PC and PlayStation 4 sometime in the second half of next year. In related news, Deep Silver picked up the game’s publishing duties.
