Europe and Japan Getting Retail Version of Pokemon Gold and Silver for 3DS, Sans a Physical Cartridge

Nintendo has confirmed that Europe and Japan will be getting boxed versions of the 3DS Virtual Console releases of Pokemon Gold and Silver.

If it sounds too good to be true, that’s because it is. The packages do not contain an actual cartridge, only a code to get the game off the eShop. It does, however, recreate the original shiny cover art from 1999.

Japan, however, seems to be going the extra mile with their version. Beyond including a code for the game, it will also include stickers, a manual, a Pokedex poster, and a Game Boy cartridge magnet.

There’s been no word if North America will get a similar release. Pokemon Gold and Silver releases on the Nintendo 3DS Vitrual Console September 22nd, the same day as Pokken Tournament DX on Switch.
