Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest Builders 2.

The new sequel is coming to both PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. Featured above, you can view the debut gameplay for the upcoming sandbox game (Editor’s Note: Footage starts around the 1:10:50 mark).

New features like four-person multiplayer, slopes, swimming / underwater areas, creating waterfalls, filling high areas with water, a higher limit of blocks you can stack (increased three times high and low), and gliding are coming in the sequel.

Finally, the game’s keywords are “fellow companions” and “young Malroth,” the latter of which is the final boss in Dragon Quest II.

In case you missed it, you can find our review for the original Dragon Quest Builders here.

    Come west!

  • Rumble Red

I wonder if there’ll be a cool story gimmick like the first one had. I don’t recall there ever being a scenario again quite like DQ1’s bad end, but my memory’s not that good.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

Sold me with Swimming. Was there anything else missing in the original beyond needing a better camera?

  • sanic

Meh demo convinced me it wasn’t dragon quest enough.

  • PaRaLLaXTHeTiCS

    Fine….I’ll hunt for a Switch now…

  • FirstLine

Wow. I was almost going to sell my Switch!

  • tccboss

welp looks like I am buying this.

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

It’s implied you’ll play as the final boss in Dragon Quest 2

  • MusouTensei

    Awesome!

  • totenglocke

….why would you sell your Switch? There’s already a bunch of games on it with plenty of great ones coming out over the next 12 months.

  • totenglocke

    Good gameplay?

  • Travis Touchdown

Ouch. Yet another blow to the PS4. The Switch version will outsell the PS4 version for sure…

Unless the speculation that Sony is paying off developers to delay or outright not make Nintendo versions of games is true.

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

Yeah who can possibly wait for another Wii U port and Mario Odyssey!?
But for real, all the damn thing has are Wii U ports, ARMS, Splatoon, and maybe the possibility of Mario and Metroid not sucking Donkey dick.

  • Uncle Ocelot

Cool. The first game was fun.

  • Uncle Ocelot

I mean, we’re still not even 6 months into the system’s life yet.

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

And what would it be in December? Just Mario Odyssey, a port of Pokken, and another Dynasty Warriors clone of another IP.

  • Klarktastic

oh boy ps4 sure is in trouble now

  • totenglocke

Literally ONE game currently available from Nintendo is a port from Wii U and there’s one I can think of from a third party (Fast RMX). One game was simultaneously released on Wii U and Switch, there are multiple first party Switch exclusives, and plenty of multiplatform games. The system isn’t even six months old and has plenty more coming just this year.

  • It’s is more of a blow to the Vita.

  • Yes no Vita port.

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

Literally ONE game currently available from Nintendo is a port from Wii U

    >LITERALLY>Zelda BoTW
    >Mario Kart 8
    >Fast RMX
    >Pokken Tournament
    >Lego City Undercover

LITERALLY ONE GUIZ OH MY FUCKING GOD STOP MAKING FUN OF NINTENDO AAAAAAAAAAAGH

  • totenglocke

“Literally ONE game currently available from Nintendo”

    Learn how to read, dipshit.

Also, as everyone with a positive IQ knows, Breath of the Wild wasn’t a port. It literally released for both systems on the day the Switch launched.

I know, you’re probably not a moron, just a low quality troll. Fuck it, I’ll block you anyways.

  • Loli de 35 dias de vida

I just downloaded the demo of the first one on my Vita, I’m actually having way more fun than I thought I would (I hate Minecraft)

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

I bet you don’t think Twilight Princess for Wii was a port either, do you?

And also way to glaze over Mario Kart and Pokken Tournament that smashes your narrative that there’s only one Nintendo game that’s a Wii u port in order to cry and bitch and moan about I-I-IT ISN’T A PORT GUYS.

  • FirstLine

I know. The problem is that it is my 2nd platform after PC. I have very little time for it. And I am the only one who purchased one.

  • Grampy_Bone

So they’re going to follow and do DQ2

  • Eldhin Hellknight

Meanwhile, Minecraft is still supported and receiving updates

  • alterku

A combination of Dark Cloud, Minecraft, and DQ that went over well with most people. Glad to see it continues but saddebed by the loss of Vita support. Time marches on.

  • Aoi Tamashii

The AA developers in Japan like Nippon-Ichi and Compile Heart will be migrating to Switch as Sony’s support for Vita wanes. (They already have a few new titles announced for Switch) It will definitely be the “otaku system” going forward for lack of any new handheld from Sony and 3DS on the way out as well.

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

Yes yes, I can see that happening, however until I see some actual shit coming I ain’t gonna believe it.

It’d be nice if someone breaks the Sony/Microsoft duopoly though.
