Niche Spotlight – Super Pilot: Promising DIY Sci-fi Racer With Heavy F-Zero Vibes

This is Niche Spotlight. In this column, we regularly introduce new games to our fans, so please leave feedback and let us know if there’s a game you want us to cover!

Nintendo’s refusal to make a proper, modern-era game in the beloved F-Zero franchise has opened the door for tons of developers to make their own adaptations of that game’s classic formula.

Now, Canadian developer dopagames are working on their game, Super Pilot, and it looks pretty damn promising.

The game is described as “futuristic racing game” that also enables players to “create, edit and share your tracks in the blink of an eye.” Featured above, you can view the latest trailer for the game, which also got enough votes to be Greenlit on Steam.

Here are the game’s key features:

  • Track editor with support for looping, twisting and rotating the track
  • Support for track distortion: width adjustment, curvature, etc
  • Boost pads!
  • Quick race and time attack modes
  • Local multiplayer up to 4 players
  • Up to 50 dumb AIs
  • One environment, 2 ships

The developer is also hoping to add the following features over time: smarter AI, track sharing, support for jumps/slippery surfaces/etc, online multiplayer, more environments and ships, and even championship mode.

Super Pilot is currently in development for Windows PC – Mac and Linux versions are possible, however they’re focusing on the PC version for now. You can find a playable demo of the game here, over on its itchi.io page.
