The Eldritch Zookeeper Announced for PC and Mac

Indie developer Cranktrain (who is actually made up of a single British developer, Matt) has announced The Eldritch Zookeeper.

The new tycoon-theme park game also comes with elements of survival horror, considering you’ll be running a park filled with literal monstrosities right out of the Necronomicon. Featured above, you can view the game’s announcement trailer.

Here are the early details:

In The Eldritch Zookeeper you run a zoo packed with unsettling, otherworldly monsters.

Deceived by a particularly well-dressed skeleton, a cursed zookeeper is forced to manage a zoo full of eldritch abominations, ideally with as little bloodshed as possible. Can our unfortunate zookeeper break his curse? Every day a new terrifying creature that must be cared for arrives through the interdimensional portal – construct enclosures and keep the monsters fed and reasonably content, and build amenities for the zoo visitors! A Happy Monster Zoo™ is when a creature’s teeth/claws/exploding-tendencies are far, far away from the guest’s vital organs. They need those! Monster rampages are discouraged.

Taking a mixture of inspiration from classic Bullfrog games (Theme Park World, Dungeon Keeper) and modern survival games, The Eldritch Zookeeper is coming to a variety of platforms very soon!

Key Features:

  • A variety of bloodthirsty monsters to contain, feed and keep reasonably happy. Or else!
  • Build ice-cream stands, smoothie shops, bathrooms and other amenities to distract zoo visitors from the yawning void!
  • Grow your zoo into a thriving must-see, cannot-unsee attraction for all the family!

The Eldritch Zookeeper is coming to both PC and Mac, however a release date isn’t confirmed at the time of publication. For now, you can view the game’s Steam page.

I love the concept, don’t know if the gameplay will live up to the likes of Theme Park though.

But the visuals are absolutely off-putting, I can’t stand to look at the thing, this isn’t about graphics but art direction. It looks like someone tried to rip off the South Park look and regurgitate it in flash.

So no buy from me, maybe if it gets some visual mods post release.

ooh dang looks hype though the screenshots make me hope that isnt the in game camera :x

I don’t know, the idea seems pretty good, but I’m put off by the gameplay and the art style. I guess because is “The Eldritch Zookeper” and not “The Eldritch Zoo” makes sense that you control directly the guy, but can’t avoid to feel that it will be a pain to build stuff. Also the animation so far has that old flash style where the limbs are apart from the boy and animated independently instead that animating a whole character.

  • Managing a zoo with unnamble horrors older than mankind? A zoo that houses horrors beyond the observable universe?

The visuals look too generic. Frankly it looks like a low effort casual cashgrab to feed off the H.P. Lovecraft fanbase.

I’d rather have a proper new Dungeon Keeper with some Ctulhu Mythos monsters as a bonus. Kind of annoying no one has kickstarted something like that.
