Arms Global Test Punch: Video Impressions and Gameplay

Niche Gamer Plays is an ongoing video preview series where our staff take an in-depth and yet concise look at classic, current, and upcoming games across all current gaming platforms.

Today we got our first chance at playing Nintendo’s upcoming arena-brawling game for the Nintendo Switch, Arms.

I streamed my thoughts while playing the game with proper motion controls via the game’s first Global Test Punch. While playing I give tips and hints that I picked up along the way. If you missed your chance at playing the first Public Test Punch, this might just be the video for you.

Make sure to check our full schedule for the coming Arms Test Punch events – which you can read about here.

Media, Marketing, Reviews, Interviews, and more. I do terrible things so you don't have to. Doing LIVE coverage of E3 to Tokyo Game Show for the last 10 years.

  • Looks rather fun.
Once the prices on the Switch go down i’ll probably pick one up myself

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

Looks like a fun Punch Out spiritual successor, but it seems too cluttered with more than two people playing.

  • I played it for the full hour. Loved it. I think there’s lots of potential in the game, but fuck the ninja character – he needs to be nerfed IMO.

  • Zanard Bell

Between Arms and Overwatch, the potentiality for waifus have increased twofold.

  • Travis Touchdown

    Ha ha.

Arms clearly has a much more varied, unique, and interesting cast.

  • bimmyz

i found it more enjoyable playing it with a controller, motion controls are ok, but i need dem buttons

  • Scruffy, the Janitor

Butch lesbian, fat Eskimo, gay tomboy, autistic Indian, Ariyan, and an Egyptian and her mom.

    That’s pretty varied.

  • Travis Touchdown

Compared to Arms’ cast? Ha ha.

  • Joe

I wonder if Nintendo is quite prepared for the kind of constant buffing/nerfing required to balance a competitive character based multiplayer game. Issuing patches once a month is not going to work.

  • I haven’t seen you around here for a long time.

  • Zanard Bell

As opposed to a gal with the most delicious booty, a cheerleader and a Chinese?

I’m not knocking ARMS down, mind, I just want to know where’s the mentality coming from.

  • Michael Richardson

Played in all of the testpunch sessions so far. Motion controls are terrible. It’s fun with traditional controls, but there isn’t enough here to justify the asking price, imo.

Oh, and Ninjara is OP as fuck.

  • Loli de 42 Empregos

it worked for Smash bros. I think they’ll be fine.

  • Loli de 42 Empregos

I know NIntendo don’t really do this type of thing but they REALLY need to make a One Piece Crossover DLC having Afro Luffy as a playable character

  • Nagato

Well, you see, Arms is made by Nintendo, and this is Travis we’re talking about.

  • Scruffy, the Janitor

    I forgot the Korean gamer

  • I love ARMs and all but Overwatch has more characters at the moment.

  • Zanard Bell

Yeah, he’s kind of a Nintenyearold cuck, but it’s fun making him trip on his own.

  • Scruffy, the Janitor

    So like, hes Techraptor’s Chrischan?

  • totenglocke

Bingo. The motion controls are awful for movement and that ninja bastard being able to teleport away from every attack is beyond bullshit.

  • SinkingSage

    It’s quite obvious that he’s a nintendofag.
It’s indisputable that Overwatch has more and better characters.
