Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Sales Top 459,000 Units in USA, Fastest-Selling Mario Kart Game

Nintendo has announced that sales for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe have topped 459,000 units within the United States.

This new milestone includes both retail and digital sales on its launch day, and only within the United States. This makes the game the fastest-selling Mario Kart title in franchise history. The  title launched recently on April 28th.

The previous record for the franchise in first-day sales was Mario Kart Wii, which sold roughly 433,900 units when launching back in 2008.

Expect our thorough review for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe forthcoming.

Meanwhile previous wiiu owners get nothing.

    Why?

  • mewnani

It’s a nice accomplishment and all but I can’t help but feel it’s underscored by the fact there’s only a grand total of 2 or 3 system selling games for the Switch out currently, this one included.

  • DrearierSpider

What do you expect, console gamers always get nothing when new remasters come out.

  • Are our Eyes Real?

    Pretty much.

It’s good news and all until you realize the only reason it’s selling/sold this much is because the Switch has been a literal Zelda machine since release, everyone with one is starved for games so they are going to get whatever big thing comes out.

I can assure you we will see similar news like this with Splatoon 2 when it comes out in July seeing how there’s nothing else coming in the Switch until then.

    Disgaea 5 Complete?
    ARMS?
Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers?

Yes, there’s not a flood of stuff between MK8D and Splatoon 2, but it’s very untrue that there are no notable releases between them.

Switch has been interesting proof that if you sell hardware to idiots then deprive them of games, they’ll desperately gobble up anything you shit out.

While I agree, I don’t think most hardcore SF Fans are gonna buy a Switch just to plat SF2 again. Most probably still have HD Remix on X360, PS3/4, or even just a MUGEN

  • Heresy Hammer

Should of been more specific. I meant this game in particular. They couldn’t just add the content from the deluxe edition in an update, showing how shafted wiiu owners are when it comes to battle mode & extra content to rub more salt in the wound. It shows that nintendo truly doesnt give a shit.

  • Joe

They don’t give a shit about people, no. They do give a shit about wringing as much money as possible out of the slavish moronic Nintendo fanbase by selling them the same game over and over again, generation after generation.
