DLC, Season Pass for Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Detailed

Nintendo has detailed five post-launch downloadable content packs, as well as a season pass, all planned for Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.

The five post-launch DLC packs will bring new characters, dungeons, and maps to the game. You can buy them all separately or save money in buying the game’s season pass (it saves you $6). You can also buy the individual content in each pack separately as well.

Featured above, you can view a new trailer showcasing the game’s planned DLC.

Here’s the full breakdown, via Nintendo:

  • Season Pass (May 19, $44.99, 22 pieces of content): The Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Season Pass includes all five DLC packs as they release. By purchasing the Season Pass, fans who want to receive all DLC will save more than 30 percent compared to purchasing all 22 pieces of content on their own.
  • DLC Pack #1 – Fledgling Warriors Pack (May 19, $7.99, three pieces of content): Ideal for early- to mid-game adventurers, this pack includes a new dungeon (The Astral Temple) and two new maps, great for gaining more items, money and experience points.
  • DLC Pack #2 – Undaunted Heroes Pack (May 25, $9.99, three pieces of content): In addition to a new dungeon (The Inner Sanctum), this pack also includes two challenging new maps that stronger, more seasoned heroes will want to tackle.
  • DLC Pack #3 – Lost Altars Pack (May 25, $14.99, 10 pieces of content): The mysterious dungeons included in this pack hold the power to upgrade characters to exclusive classes that don’t appear in the main game.
  • DLC Pack #4 – Rise of the Deliverance Pack (June 1, $12.99, four pieces of content): Discover the previously untold history of Valentia in this Prologue pack. Complete with new story content and additional voice acting that details the rise of the Deliverance in Zofia, this collection of challenging maps includes new support conversations between selected heroes, as well as the ability to take command of a character players won’t be able to control in the main game.
  • DLC Pack #5 ($5.99, two pieces of content): More information about this final DLC pack will be revealed in the future.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is launching on May 19th in both North America and Europe.

Season pass happy nintendo all of the sudden

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

It’s definitely okay if Nintendo does it!

  • sanic

Christ I’ve never seen a $45 season pass for a hand held game… unless the vita version of dead or alive 5 has season passes.

  • SuuLoliBoob

Jesus, this is fucking retarded. I know awakening had DLC (And some fucking pricey at that) but fuck me, this is getting ridiculous.

And what’s even worse is, the only thing that seems to be actually adding something good (And thus might actually be worth something) is Pack #4!

  • SuuLoliBoob

    >what is Nioh
    >What is Persona 5
    >What is Senran Kagura

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

-25 dollar season pass with all new content with a new story involving a new warlord
    -No season pass
-The amount of DLC is fucking bullshit here

  • acidthorn

It’s not really all of the sudden, they started endorsing/having season passes since Mario Kart 8. The difference with MK8, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Golf, etc season passes was that they
Did not cost more than the game itself
Had ample content for the price
From what we’ve seen, this season pass is just a cash grab to capitalize on the fact that Fire Emblem is the hot new thing again, and it’s worse since this is supposedly a close remake of the NES game, so they’ll just shoehorn this shit in.

  • Captain Vidya

Fucking christ, I was looking forward to this one, too. Guess I just won’t buy the DLC and justget another game instead.

Or I could, you know, just pirate it all. CFW and all that.

  • SuuLoliBoob

Persona 5 still has DLC that adds up to $80+ of shitty costumes and some extra personas. And i haven’t heard anyone complain about that. But like how the good ol’ mantra goes, it’s only bad when ____ does it.

  • Are our Eyes Real?

Nioh gave free content updates and its DLC pass is only 25$, also, the first DLC from them just came out, almost 3 months after the game’s release.

Persona is mostly costumes and Fanservice Personas.

Senran Kagura is also mostly costumes.

Now look at Nintendo’s shit, 45$ Season Pass for a handheld game nonetheless and all of it comes out days after the game’s release (a month later after it’s original JP release), literally content they took out of the game just to sell it to you as expensive as fuck DLC.
Not even EA does shit like this.

  • SuuLoliBoob

    >Persona is mostly costumes and Fanservice Personas.

oh right, i totally forgot It’s only okay when it’s fanservice

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

It does? Well fuck that too then. I don’t think that’s okay.

  • Are our Eyes Real?

It really is, or are you retarded?

Costumes and fanservice are one of the few, or only DLCs that are “okay” because they add nothing to the game aside from “I look pretty now”

  • SuuLoliBoob

Okay, but justify them taking out Personas so they can just sell them for more money later, now.

  • SuuLoliBoob

Oh, so now you don’t? Isn’t that just funny and coincidental.

  • Are our Eyes Real?

They weren’t in the original game, most of them are the Personas of the previous MCs, also, they came our way after the games release. Don’t forget Persona 5 is a 7 months old game, it’s only “new” for NA.

  • That price is garbage. No thank you. I’ll just stick with the base game.

  • Mr0303

Damn, 45$! Reading through the content on offer it just seems like dungeons that were cut out of the game.

  • acidthorn

Titlekey for the USA version of the game is already dumped :^)

  • SuuLoliBoob

Basically this. Just like Nioh, i’ll buy the base game and will not even waste money with the season pass.

  • Shiggy Diggy Doo

    >Now I don’t

I’m gonna go on a limb here and say you didn’t pick up the sarcasm when I said It’s Okay When Nintendo Does It. Because it fucking isn’t you smarmy little cunt.

  • Nagato

I’ll just copypaste this recent post of mine:

Saddest thing is how all the fanboys will eagerly pay for this as it gets out, after years of parading around the fact that “their” platform don’t have practices like DLC milking, season passes and paid online.

It’s a shame “console wars” are just about using whatever people can to defend the precious honor of their gaming device of choice (at that point in time), rather than carrying forward a consistent set of pro-consumer values against which you weigh each device instead.

  • Uncle Ocelot

    FORTY FIVE DOLLARY-DOOS

  • Uncle Ocelot

I don’t think I’ve seen a $45 season pass for any game to be honest.

  • malbhet

I actually canceled my pre order of this game because of this crap. I’d actually prefer to spend my money on another full game that doesn’t nickel and dime me rather than dealing with this BS. They lost a sale from me and turned me off from ever playing any future FE IP ever again because it seems they will keep doing this every new FE game.

  • malbhet

Upvote for speaking the damn truth.

  • Captain Vidya

They were the personas of the protagonists, though. Those don’t get brought back between games. Now, if they did something like make Ghoul or Mother Harlot or something DLC, or add a new dungeon as DLC, then you’d have more of a point. All the P5 DLC that you have to pay money for is just fanservice stuff themed around the previous games in the franchise.

  • NuclearCherries

That’s it, Fire Emblem’s over. Nintendo killed it.
Also, christ that price. I could buy a game for that price.

  • NuclearCherries

    How’s the translation?

  • Zero Eternity

damn that is a lot of money for DLC.

  • Zack Attack

Fire Emblem Warriors is the only one I’m touching FE related since I am a sucker for musous.

  • Zack Attack

I never bought any dlc for estival versus and the game is 100% fine to be honest.

  • Zack Attack

Nintendo has nailed it to true retardation.

  • Zack Attack

Mario Kart 8 was fine, Hyrule Warriors got a bit out of hand and Smash 4 was smart with cross buy if you have both a Wii U and 3DS. Fire Emblem Echoes dlc is pure horseshit.

  • Mighty No. 56008
  • CRES

Just wait, the Fire Emblem Warriors Season Pass will be $70 and they won’t even release the last DLC pack in the West.

  • Loli de 42 Anos

nah, Musous usually have pretty reasonable prices for DLCs and even then they are mostly cosmetic.

  • CRES

Maybe, but considering how DLC happy Nintendo is being at the moment I wouldn’t be surprised if you have to pay $10 in order to play as Eliwood who plays exactly like Roy.

  • I look forward to people finding out this content is already on the cartridge and was locked out to squeeze money out of you.

My confidence in buying this game has been dwindling very fast, Nintendo.

  • CRES

Didn’t Nintendo stop and think “You know, we MIGHT have gone a little overboard if our Season Pass costs more than the game itself” at least ONE!? You could buy an entire game with for that price.

Speaking of which, if you want to play a Strategy RPG on the 3DS but are sick and tired of Nintendo sucking the life and soul out of Fire Emblem, try Stella Glow.

It’s like Fire Emblem, except Better.

  • I’ve been meaning to play this one, actually.

  • ShadeKnight

Don’t want the DLC, DONT BUY IT. Nobody is putting a gun to your head. As it stands every person who I know imported Fire Emblem Echoes from Japan says it is amazing, so of course I have to buy the game.

I am a huge Fire Emblem fan. I have been importing every game since 1990 for prices way over what this DLC is so of course I am going to buy it. I love Fire Emblem a lot.

A lot of games have DLC that is actually more than the base game……Smash Bros Wii U/3DS which have both sold over 12 million copies had that…….Train Simulator on Steam…..Record of Agarest War 2…Disgaea 4 and more …..not exactly the first time……I am not a fan of super high DLC, but I am also smart enough to realize it is optional.

  • Mr. Capo
  • Scorching Sirius

Beat that game over a year ago.

  • Ingo Knito

Just ignore it, people. Looking at the details of the DLC, it’s mostly scrub content in form of more resources that any player worth a damn does not need to enjoy/complete a game, especially the “Lost Altars Pack”, which is pathetic when you think about it. Rise of Deliverance is the same type of DLC we already have in previous 3DS installments and have always been just for the super enthusiast. I liked the alternate story in Awakening, I didn’t bother with the Fates ones. Price is high, but easily ignored without losing on much.

Personally, I’m glad no QoL additions are in those packs like with Zelda BotW’s first paid DLC, and I have no doubt the base game will give me plenty to enjoy for the standard price of a 3DS game without the slghtest necessity to buy into the DLC nonsense (probably because I’ll be done with the game before all of it is released).

So again, just ignore it. People are gonna keep wasting money either way as they are easily manipulated.

  • Loli de 42 Anos

I… I think I’ll put my trust in Tecmo with that one since they are the ones actually producing it and even Hyrule Warriors was pretty fair with it’s DLC

  • InkViper

Okay before everyone blows the top, let’s cool are jets, and apply a little bit of rationality before we write the game off and boycott it!

    1. Is the DLC already on cartridge?

    2. Has any content from the main game itself been removed and put into DLC, which forces you to purchase said DLC in order to get the base game?

    3. Has Nintendo treehouse or 88-14 egregiously removed, changed or out right censored any content from the original Japanese title, whilst the game went through “localisation”?

Okay, if the answer is no to any of these questions, your purchase of the standalone base game should not be affected by DLC content or its pricing! But rather take a more nuanced approach, such as looking at the value proposition of the bass game for purchase on its own merits, and likewise should also be applied to the DLC!

Now if the answer is yes to any of these questions, then fuck this game and fuck Nintendo of America!

  • Mighty No. 56008

So essentially you’re saying that you’re ok with the idea of having to pay for the game twice to get the “complete version”? Because that’s practically where we are at the moment: paying for unfinished games and having to pay extra for the “extra content”.

I don’t think many people have qualms with DLC or even micro-transactions when done correctly, but when you’re having to pay for characters, maps, or even modes that should’ve been included with the final product, I’m not exactly surprised people get upset over it.

  • hazardman89

“Rawwwr” is Dragon for “Take your BS, overpriced DLC and shove it”

  • CRES

DAMMIT ATLUS! Where is Devil Survivor 3!?

  • Pilebunker

I say ignore the game in general and send messages stating how you won’t buy it due to the DLC. Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 had a great amount of DLC where you were locked out a class and couldn’t 100% maps without it. People in mass didn’t buy it. What happened with the next game? None of that nonsense was there. Only major DLC was the FM soundtrack which was actually an afterthought and made when fans asked for it.

If fans would either pirate the game and give it no sales due to the DLC, they would think twice about treating the fans like a bunch of sheep.

  • Pilebunker

All that DLC comes to around $52. The season pass is $45. 70% of $52 is $36.40. How is the season pass possibly saving “more than 30 percent” then? That’s not even more than 15% off.

Besides that. I’ll just pirate it. Nintendo wants to milk their consumers with DLC and it started to show with Fire Emblem Awakening and went full force with the bullshit they pulled with Fates (splitting 1 game into 3 and then making the third DLC which is plot important and makes choices made on both sides pointless. All while using the excuse that it can’t fit on one cart when it definitely could. Now the price for all 3 is worth more than 1 game.). If people boycotted it then they would think twice about pulling such nonsense. Can’t use the threat that no one will localize it when CFW allows fan translated games and disables region locking.

  • CRES

To be fair to EO2U, a lot of it’s DLC was free for the first week after it was launched including the Highlander class (the DLC class not present in the original game) and at least one of the expanded map quests. I got most of the DLC for that game without paying a single extra penny, and even then most of the DLC was rather cheap, no where near the cost of a full game.

Also, thank you for reminding me that Etrian Odyssey V is STILL not out in the US.

  • larverto365

And then Travis Touchdown is probably chill with this. Yeah, if I get this game, I’m not even considering getting the DLC unless they lower the price, but they probably won’t do that.

  • Mr. Capo

We will get it after the eventual Persona 5 milking.

  • le master trole

    7th Dragon III: Code VFD
    is also nice

  • le master trole

Announcing DLC that is more expensive than the base game itself before it even launched is the height of jewry.
I kinda wanted to get this game before, but now they have firmly turned me off.

  • le master trole

    >everybody says it’s great so I have to buy it
That’s the definition of a lemming.

  • le master trole

They managed to put Xenoblade Chronicles on a 3DS cart, so you know their excuse for Fates is bull.

  • le master trole

    >EOV Western release never ever
    craaaaaaawling iiiiiin myyy skiiiiiiiiiiiin…

  • Mr. Capo

    (((Fire Emblem: Echoes)))

  • Angel

Outside the horrible dubs the game is good. Played it a year back only to find out a month later the company bankrupted.

  • CRES

I don’t get the standards of some people in regards to voice acting. Stella Glow had a really good dub. If you want a horrible dub check out Arc Rise Fantasia, that will TRULY make your ears bleed.

Or is it just the style that most anime dubs go for that make it unappealing?

  • CRES

What are we looking at, 3 fighting games, a rhythm game involving thievery, 2 more animes, and of course the Golden FES Ultra edition that’s going to come out in like 2 years time.

  • Angel

Dub vs Original. That and Atlus USA only uses the same 6 people or so on all their games to do VA. Eh

  • CRES

All anime voice work uses the same 6 people or so. Seriously, how many times does Chris Patton and Luci Christian play opposite of each other?

Also, saying that “The original Japanese was better” does not indicate that the English dub is horrible. It’s like if the original performance was a 9/10 while the dub was 8/10, I wouldn’t call the dub “horrible.”

In fact the only major issue I had with the audio is that it was way too quiet. While I’m sitting in my room it’s fine, but as soon as I’m on the Bus there is no way I can hear what’s going on even with headphones.

  • CRES

No, you know the excuse for Fates is bull because the Special Edition IS all three games on a single cart.

  • Pilebunker

I am still upset that EOV hasn’t been announced for localization. Persona 5 has been done for a while now so what could they be waiting on?

  • Angel

You mean English anime dubs? Well yeah but why would you even do that? They legit only use a handful of people over at atlus to dub. I just want source material for audio as it is often done poorly almost exclusively in English.

  • Angel

Oh and the English voice acting is horrible but not as bad as P4s holy shit had to turn off the voice itself for me to play it.
