Worldwide Resident Evil 7 Sales Top 3.5 Million

Capcom has announced worldwide sales for Resident Evil 7: biohazard have topped 3.5 million units.

The new milestone was revealed via their new financial results, and includes sales across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

To compare, Monster Hunter XX sold 1.7 million units, and that’s only available in Japan right now. If we go by Capcom’s expectations, Resident Evil 7 actually sold below their forecasted numbers.

In related news, the game’s first story downloadable content – “Not a Hero” – was delayed to an undetermined date.

Resident Evil 7: biohazard is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough written and video review for the game here (we highly recommend it!).

You should do an article about how DR4 undersold.

    That was funny to me.

  • I guess that PSVR deal didn’t work out. Lol

It sounds like Capcom just has a general problem when it comes to sales expectations. You’re supposed to aim a little low so you can get good PR when you’re “surprised” by how much better it did. Square Enix is the same.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

Square wouldn’t be pleased even if their games sold more than their expectations; they’ll just crank the amount up even higher and be disappointed by it being lower except when it’s FF.

I remember when DmC was projected to do 5 million, then 2 million, then 1.2 million, then the HD collection out sold it.

Just seems to be a Japanese thing at this point. “Why didn’t our game sell 40 million copies?!” or “Metroid only sold 2 million? Better abandon that shit!”

Props to the NieR team for acknowledging their own success and at least pretending to be happy about their game.

Capcom is chasing VR as they thought it was the next big thing. Now the industry is about read to abandon it, they must feel particularly foolish.

Most of Square’s games are have budgets that could run some small countries. The industry is too busy chasing after blockbuster money they forget to just be profitable.
