New Horror Game Iwaihime: Matsuri Announced for PS4, PS Vita

Nippon Ichi Software has announced (via Dengeki) their latest horror game, and it’s for both PlayStation 4 and PS Vita.

The new game is actually a port of Iwaihime: Matsuria Japanese horror visual novel by Higurashi When They Cry and Umineko When They Cry creator Ryukishi07.

Originally released for PC last year, the game focuses on a terrifying and depressing story revolving around a curse, and has CGs by Kina Kazuharu.

Here’s a synopsis of the game, via the VNDB:

Hajakenshou. Crush evil, spread the truth.

It is said that each generation, upon reaching a certain age, all boys of the Susuhara family leave home and become independent. Then, relying only on themselves, they train body and soul until they are accepted as adults. And so I prepared myself for this day, learning a great many things so I’d be ready to live on my own.

Susuda Prefectoral High School. My new school. Originally, I planned to enter in first year rather than transfer in second year. Life at school is carefree, and even pleasant. Everyone has a great time in class 2-A. There’s just… her, Toe Kurokami. “Weird” doesn’t begin to describe her. Always holding that Japanese doll against her chest, never letting go for a second. Some whisper it is a cursed doll, whose hair grows when no one is looking. But it’s just an uncanny doll, with nothing special about it. Yet, perhaps my meeting that girl was fate… No, it was fate.

A release date wasn’t announced.

Been a while since I played a Japanese horror game and I need to play something obscure again now that P5 is almost mainstream. Hope the TL will be bearable. Niche games like this are often put through Google translate.

    I like it. Let’s go.

    Looks promising.

I would be excited if this actually stood a chance of coming over.

  • Leandro Teixeira

I hven’t played the PC version yet, but since this is from the same guy who did Umineko/Higurashi I can expect a story that will probably still be discussed 10 years from now

  • Fenrir007

Will it be ultra censored, lolcalized and riddled with bugs like NISA is known and loved for?

  • Pilebunker

They seem to only do that with games made by NIS these days. I suspect that NIS lets NISA do what they please while other publishers and devs scrutinize their localizations more.

  • Visual Novels aren’t video games you weebs.
