Bayonetta Now Available for PC in 4K

Sega and Platinum Games are bringing the original Bayonetta to PC today.

The game is available today for $19.99, and will be playable up to 4K resolution and at 60FPS, alongside sporting advanced graphics options. Featured above, you can view the announcement trailer for the game.

Fans will also be able to buy the digital deluxe edition at no further cost, which includes: a five-song soundtrack sample, a digital art book, exclusive avatars, and wallpapers. This deal will run until April 25th.

Sega also shared a developer diary on how the PC version of the game came to be:

Here’s a rundown on the Steam version, via Sega:

From PlatinumGames’ legendary director Hideki Kamiya of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry fame, SEGA brings one of the most universally acclaimed character action games of all time to PC.

Bayonetta. The last survivor of an ancient witch clan who keep the balance between light, dark and chaos. Entombed to protect herself – and the world as we know it – Bayonetta is discovered and revived after 500 years, sparking a chain of events with cataclysmic repercussions.

Thrust straight into battle, with only one clue to her past, Bayonetta must discover the truth and fight for the future. Her daunting conquest sees her face off against countless angelic enemies and giant foes in a game of 100% pure action.

  • bomblord

I think arbitrary resolutions like 4K should just be a given not a selling point for PC ports.

  • Will3316

Figured it would be either this or Bayonetta 3 announced for the Switch.

  • M37 TrenchGun
  • Just Some Guy

    Seven years…

  • Mr0303

Interesting strategy with the “available now” announcement. I guess the game is popular enough so that it doesn’t need any extra promotion.

  • BioDevil_Dom

Just keep an eye on this link here cause it’s been counting down for ten days.

  • NukeA6

WTF? This wasn’t an April Fool’s joke?! Good stuff. Now if they release Bayonetta 2, I have no reason to get a Wii-U anymore.

  • Madbrainbox

“Fans will also be able to buy the digital deluxe edition at no further cost, which includes: a five-song soundtrack sample,”
That’s great since the Bayo soundtrack is godly.

  • Dewey Defeats Truman

    Oh shit, exclusive avatars!

But no seriously that’s neat. Here’s hoping the port is good and, you know, not like the PS3 version.

  • ProxyDoug
  • Richard Smith

W101 is a good reason to get it.

  • Eldhin Hellknight

Its not an April fools joke, right?

  • Eldhin Hellknight

    My exact reaction

  • reblinds

PC gamers getting their 10 year old scraps. Always funny to me. If you haven’t played this game in 10 years, did you really even ever want to play it?

  • Verus

so because i played it on 360 when it came out, i can’t revisit the title on my PC now?
    right.

  • NukeA6

Wasn’t that coming to the Switch or did I mistake that for a different game?

  • reblinds

    sure thing beggar race :^)

  • BaronKrause

Ehh its more about wanting to play on a system that isn’t a total piece of shit. The Wii U is a total piece of shit.

  • Franklin Souza

    GPCMR

  • reblinds

he says while playing a PS3 port, the worst version of the game

  • Malcolm_Ecks

    What are you? ChocolateISIS Cream?

  • BaronKrause

    Who’s playing the PS3 version?

  • reblinds

you, on your piece of shit PC tbqh

  • Madbrainbox

ISIS retardation and butthurt are contagious it seems.

Or it could be him on different accounts because I don’t think anyone else could be this fucking stupid.

  • BaronKrause

So what your saying is that the WII U version is going to be superior to the PC port?

Just needed actual confirmation as if the answer is yes it would mean you’re retarded.

  • AuraMaster DX (austin9568)

i would be surprised if people waited this long just to play the game, sadly i’m not.

  • Travis Touchdown

It actually is, since it has more content. Also the fact that you can go ahead and play the sequel.

But keep telling yourself that the PC version is better.

  • Travis Touchdown

    It’s not happening.

  • Travis Touchdown

Talk about getting excited over scraps. This game came out in 2009.

  • Malcolm_Ecks

Meanwhile you’re begging for ports many years old on these comment sections for the Switch.

  • Mr0303

Given that the sequel was funded by Nintendo I don’t see that happening.

  • Will3316

The PC version is better. That’s usually how it works.

  • BaronKrause

By more content are your referring to those Nintendo costumes?

This isn’t about playing it on PC, its about NOT playing it on that piece of shit. Port it and 2 to the Switch and that would be awesome too, then the Wii U can fulfill its true calling as being fodder for a hydraulic press.

  • Mr0303

ISIS is not stupid – he’s a troll and by the looks of it a very effective one.

  • Will3316

Travis the Nintendo fanboy can’t admit it.

  • Will3316

    :(

  • reblinds

its how it works sometimes, a lot of the times its bogged down with anti-consumer drm, poor performance way outside of the original hardware spec, bugs, inconsistencies, and the general cheapness that comes with late PC ports. Expectations should be low, but then again a fanboy will defend it.

  • Will3316

    Late PC ports are cheap.

In price, which is why PC is so wonderful :)

  • Will3316

The Metal Gear Rising PC port was pretty awesome last I checked, so I’m pretty confident Platinum knows how to make a good PC port.

  • acidthorn
  • reblinds

It’s funny to see you forgot about nier automata, which came out a month ago and is a disaster on PC.

  • Madbrainbox

I’ll admit I find him annoying.

  • reblinds

you aren’t proving otherwise, with a port for a 10 year old game

  • Will3316

People get excited when good games come out on their platform of choice. Like you’ll get excited when Skyrim comes out on the Switch.

  • Mr0303

I simply don’t read his posts, but the issue is that he constantly breaks the new TOS and somehow he’s not banned.

  • Will3316

Platinum has a generally good track record when it comes to PC ports.

  • Magnifico Ginormous

Sounds like someone is preemptively asshurt over Bayonetta possibly becoming uncucked.

  • Will3316

One port vs MGR and Transformers Devastation

  • reblinds

the most recent port. pattern recognition isn’t your strong suit, is it?

  • Pillbugable

I’ll have to wait and see how good the port is. Automata was pretty bad without the FAR patch.

  • Dawn Blast

Well sadly I do. Wonderful 101

  • BaronKrause

It’s true, just take NieR and Doa 5. Technically all things equal the PC versions should always play and look better if you’re using a up to date machine that is using a top tier card (though that system Will cost a lot more then a console) but due to lack of experience and shortcuts (like with DOA) they often can look better and worse all at once due to higher resolutions/better AA mixed with often missing or lowered graphical features because they didn’t take the time or know how to implement them properly.

  • Magnifico Ginormous

Travis mentions “scraps” as well so either they’ll all sock puppets or they’re getting some piping hot narrative delivered to em.

  • Will3316

Old, beloved game comes out on PC.

Most people: Cool, we get to play a fun game on our platform of choice!
Fanboys for multinational companies: Lol port begging PC gamers always want our table scraps. Can’t wait to play Skyrim on Switch!

  • reblinds

frankly if you’re porting to a platform which has a theoretical performance jump of 6-12 times like the PC does, you don’t need to target hardware from the generation the consoles released, but it should be running on hardware a year older.

  • reblinds

nichefags actually believe my long history of shitposting @ PC cucks is the work of someone else, how sad

  • BaronKrause

Rising played good but proved they don’t know much about making PC ports when the game is capped at 1080p, but can be pretty much hex edited to run higher with no more then some slight menu oddities that I would hope they could’ve easily addressed if they actually implemented it normally.

  • Lavenza

inb4 Guys guys! Now that this 7+ year old game is out surely Persona 5 is next right?

  • CrimsonColossus

Wish we’d get a PS4 port too. I really wanna play this but don’t wanna settle for the PS3 version. Never gonna happen, I know.

  • BaronKrause

You seem to be misplacing blame. If a port is bad on a stronger piece of hardware, the company that ported it is shit, not the platform. Should be obvious.

  • PixelBuff

    Meh.
Call me when it’s Bayonetta 3.
I beat Bayo on 360 probably 4 or 5 times. Then another 3 or so on the WiiU.

Nice that PC Master Race can enjoy Bayo’s majesty though, and maybe enough sales will send Platinum the hint.

  • reblinds

a low quality port happens for a number of reasons – the main reason on PC is poor sales. It’s essentially a tip jar compared to console sales – so ports get very small teams of two people working on them many times and because of that, ports turn out very poor. Not enough money going into the devs, poor quality ports, an endless cycle. PC gaming mouthpieces need to stop bragging about the hundred millions of steam users and instead buying games at a better rate than 1 copy sold for every 4 on consoles.

  • Travis Touchdown

Actually, I’m looking forward to pointing out how much worse Skyrim is than BOTW when it launches.

I don’t actually like Bethesda games.

  • Travis Touchdown

No, I’m advocating for real third party support in general, which includes ports, but also includes fairly priced versions of current titles. There’s no real reason for games like MGSV or Resident Evil 7 to not be on it.

Switch isn’t like PC where devs have to be wary of people pirating all their games.

  • Derpy Kitty

Now there’s no reason to own a Xbox 360. ;3

  • Zanard Bell

Who cares about lolcows? I have a budget Nier I can sink my teeth into until I get my next paycheck. Thank you Based Platinum.

  • DrearierSpider

Port looks to be pretty good from early reports. Nice to finally have a version with a stable frame rate, which wasn’t the case even on non-PS3 consoles. Let’s hope Vanquish is up next.

  • Himegami Aisa

Obviously any shitty port comes down to not putting in the effort, whether it be for PC, console or handheld. The question is the quality of ports in general and unfortunately PC tends to get some real shockers thrown in the mix. I mean look at the fucking Final Fantasy ports. PC really is seen as a cash-in low-effort platform by some companies.

  • reblinds

it’s not a cash-in platform. It is a low effort one however. Steamspy ownership tracking indicates PC gamers buy the least of any group and when they do buy it is at a major discount. It’s a tip jar platform. If you were working exclusively for tips, you wouldn’t put in your all either.

  • Funtime Happysnacks

    Tales of Vesperia.

  • 2501

That’s awesome, i’m happy with the Wii-U release but it’s great that more people can play this game with no frame drops…. *stares at PS3 port*

  • vonSanneck

Btw it can run on a HD 7700 1GB graphics card with framedrops when it gets busy. If you have a GTX 1050 or RX 460 2GB or equivalent you are golden.

  • Verus

man, you got me. thanks for beta testing faggot.

  • Himegami Aisa

I don’t really get your tip-jar analogy. Only retarded fanboys buy PC ports to support the company, and the vast majority of buyers actually care if it’s playable, even if they never actually play it because they buy shit on whims during sales and just waste money. Perhaps the companies look at it this way but I don’t think the customers do. If you mean they half-ass it because you don’t think they’ll make sales, that’s probably half right. I think a lot of companies just know they’ll get away with it and people aren’t going to pay attention when WHOA IT’S ON SALE FOR LIKE $5.

  • OldPalpy

Still unless they’re just trolls it’s pretty sad how they parrot out the exact same words like in this very comment section while furiously typing up wall of words about how Skyrim on Switch will change everything.

  • Verus

until it gets cracked like every other nintendo platform that ever was?

  • Uncle Ocelot

NEVER EVER most likely, which is unfortunate. Hopefully we at least get a Switch version.

  • Uncle Ocelot

Never underestimate those goons from Something Awful.

  • Uncle Ocelot

Superior PS3 version if you have the means to play the undub/know moonrunes.

  • BaronKrause

Holy crap that FFVII port, just the PSX version ran in an emulator. I’m really starting to think they lost the uncompiled version of that game.

  • Funtime Happysnacks

I own it on PS3 yes I know. But it’s still a reason

  • Lucky
  • Himegami Aisa

Better than the ones ported from mobile, which are actually markedly worse than just emulating it.

  • sanic

This is cool but where the fuck is the bayonetta amiibo already?

  • BaronKrause

Oh yeah, how do you make HD textures look WORSE.

I want the Lunar Silver Star Story mobile port to come to PC or console (or anything that’s not IOS). That one actually had all the sprites redrawn in HD the correct way by drawing over the originals so they truly look like an HD version of the original. That’s how it should always be done, never just redrawn from scratch.

    Widescreen too.

  • reblinds

well, how much do you usually tip at a restaurant? I admit, a 20% tip is quite a bit, most people do a combination of tax + 5 or 10 dollars or something, but I know my tips don’t go very far compared to someone’s pay check.

If you look at the recent announcement about Nier Automata hitting 1 million sales, you can get some very interesting on the fly information with publicly available data. If you look up Nier Automata on steam spy, you can see about 220K people own copies of the game. About a week ago, when that announcement was made, the game had hit about 195K units shipped, so about 200K. 200,000 is just 20% of 1 million, meaning the game had sold 80% of its units for console, a major shift that the week delay can’t be a reasonable explanation for.

Hence the tip jar analogy. Very few sales, or sales at a major discount don’t add up to be a big profit, and this applies for pretty much every PC multiplatform release with a few exceptions of games with a gigantic marketing push.

  • Madbrainbox

I was just as hyped for KotOR II.Which is an even older game.Hell, the old Blizzard games getting remasters is something to be happy about. Also,I’ll say this.I hope Blizzard will add a VR version of Starcraft 2 and ports it to PSVR as well.Anyone should be able to enjoy good games regardless of platform.

  • Bitterbear

  • perfectsword

OH JOYOUS HAPPY DAY! I OWN THIS GAME 2x ALREADY BUT I AM HAPPY TO MAKE IT 3. BASED PLATINUM GAMES AND KAMIYA, LORD & SAVIOR!

  • perfectsword

Unfortunately Nintendo has a controlling stake in Bayonetta 2. It won’t happen, ever. That’s like asking for Zelda on a Sony system.

  • Madbrainbox
  • perfectsword

I must say, the Wii U port was pretty damn good, almost exactly like the 360 version. There were some dips, but it’s way more playable than the PS3 version.

  • garf02

time to triple dip. and now I wait for Bayo 3 Switch Exclusive

  • DrearierSpider

Have you seen the progress CEMU’s been making? There’s still no reason to buy that festering piece of dogshit.

  • gpf_mournblade

you miss that Nier Automata was not a good port

  • DrearierSpider

Not many games have the dubious distinction of being less playable than the PS3 version, so that isn’t saying much. The 360/XB1 & Wii U versions are certainly servicable, but the frame rate is all over the goddamn place.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zll8sayyHZk&ab_channel=DigitalFoundry

  • Malcolm_Ecks

Its not Platinum that needs the hint. They’re the dev. Sega owns the IP. What held Bayo back was the fact that it only sold a couple million on 2 consoles and Bayo 2 sold barely a mill on the Wii U.

They know people like the game, but they know its also a loud minority of peple who like niche games that are screaming for it. Voting with your wallet is always the best way to get attention. Sega (though this is doubtful) needs to release a Bayo 1 and 2 pack on the current consoles and have Platinum make Bayo 3 for all main platforms. Likely won’t happen though. If anything I expect the next Bayo (if there is one) to be PS4 and PC only.

  • SevTheBear
  • reblinds

it doesn’t matter to most PC gamers. It’s perfectly playable and there’s fixes. DRM also doesn’t matter to most PC gamers.

  • DrearierSpider

I’ll take a locked 60 fps with resolutions above 720p over a few gimmicky costumes any day of the week.

  • Bitterbear

So.. Always online connection and Denuvo?

  • Bitterbear

Remember kiddies: When a console gets a port of a (relatively speaking) old game? HAHAHAHA!!!1!1! Console fags are getting old shit! Who wants to play that trash now!!. But when an old (again, relatively speaking) console game gets a PC port, then it’s a beloved game, and the more people play it, the better.

  • DrearierSpider
  • perfectsword

Oh wow, I see. Well, hopefully the PC port will have this be the best version of the game to play then!

  • Madbrainbox

    Both sides have their retards.

  • gpf_mournblade

    thats not true

  • Bitterbear

    Yup!

I’m more concerned if the game is going to be riddled with always-online DRM.

  • Tristan (Chili1)

    >did you really even ever want to play it?
Yes, but I never got around to it. Now I can. Its exciting. Plus I just like the benefits being on PC offers to users. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are old and are only getting older.

  • Tristan (Chili1)

    >admitting to shitposting

  • Tristan (Chili1)

Nier Automata isn’t even close to a disaster on PC. It just requires a beefy PC to run it and has broken fullscreen, both of which are easily fixable (and even then on a beefy PC it runs and looks great). Most of the time when people say a PC port is terrible, it really isn’t. This isn’t broken like, say, Devil May Cry 3 is.

    t. someone who owns Nier Automata on PC

  • Madbrainbox

    Doesn’t appear to have Denuvo.

  • Will3316

    That’s not what I said.

  • Bitterbear

That’s.. Unusual from a Japanese publisher. On average they go balls to the wall when it comes to DRM.

Maybe they’re trying to build-up some goodwill.

  • Madbrainbox

Hopefully they are.And considering they are No 1 on Steam right now I’d say it’s working.

  • MusouTensei

I knew this announcement will deeply disappoint me.
Also PC gamers don’t deserve this game.

  • Madbrainbox

It seems the site has attracted even more of these idiots with their Zelda review.

  • It mostly come from the console end as console fanboys get really aggressive when they lose an exclusive.

  • The PC version is the only version that runs properly. But do enjoy your version with the massive dips. :)

  • Bitterbear

The rage from Playstation fans an Neogaf users are to blame for at least a third of global warming.

  • The PC version runs better and has more options kid.

  • Nope it’s real and beautiful. :)

  • Nagato

Just wait for the reactions when we’ll get newly beloved games such as Persona 5 and Nioh making their way to PC later this year, it’s gonna be HUGE.

  • reblinds

it is. Nier Automata is selling very well despite this. Never heard EA gripe about battlefield 3+ sales either. You have an odd perception of the majority of PC gamers if you think they care about DRM. They don’t even care about ownership – most use steam who can revoke a license to a game whenever they wish and render the money you spent null and void.

  • RichardGristle

    I don’t know who you are, I just believe you’re a faggot.

    ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • DizzyGear

I only have this with indie games that are being ported ages after their PC release. Like are Switch owners supposed to be exited for a port of The Binding of Isaac? Or all the other indie crap on PS4/PSVita that you can play on any fucking toaster of a PC for a fraction of the price?

  • RichardGristle

Good news! I remember pirating the 360 version and enjoyed it enough to 100% it. I’m all in for purchasing a Steam version.

Also tippest-toppest keks @ the angry cucks.

  • RichardGristle

Currently on route C, can confirm not a “disaster”.

    You should kill yourself :^)

  • DizzyGear
  • s_fnx

I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around.

  • Will3316

I believe it could happen, but not as soon as later this year.

  • DrearierSpider

Devs also don’t have to worry about their games selling on the Switch, unlike the PC. In other news, Iwata is still dead. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a8051d1debbc56e8606fc2d0441e8c666c0f193948ac1ec8d08f5cace8bc93d0.png .

  • DrearierSpider

Was it table scraps when it came out for the Wii U 5 years after the initial release?

  • Kev Lew

love the game, glad to see it his more platforms. It was one of the reasons I bought into the Wii U 2-3 years after it came out (more than I can say for any of the other consoles).

  • Himegami Aisa

Zero because I’m not an Amerifat, lol. Not too much point getting bogged down in the analogy even though I don’t see it from the consumer’s point of view.

Being a smaller stream of income really isn’t an acceptable excuse for a terrible port in any case, even though I’m sure that sounds good to execs. Really the only way to rail against that is to boycott it, but lots of steam kiddies will eat shit up without a second thought and fanboys who actually do have the tip jar mentality will shill them thinking the ends of potentially furthering their beloved franchise justifies the means of purchasing an inferior product or supporting a company making an awful decision (like the fucking Metroid “buycott”).

  • Derpy Kitty

    Ohshet. You’re right. Touche.

  • Jack Thompson

Fug off with your platform wars.

  • Jack Thompson

So why is this port apparently good, but Automata’s was badly optimized and had game crashing bugs? Did they have different teams working on them?

  • MusouTensei

    No.

Automatas is considered bad? Only issue I’ve experienced is the autochanger to window mode if you alt tab. More annoying than anything else.

  • GamerAlligator

Nice but I ain’t paying full price for this.

  • Fandangle

I would because it’s a fucking fantastic game.

  • Fandangle

I’d buy it but where is the DRM free edition?

  • GamerAlligator

Yes, I saw the purchase. You are now replying to a Bayonetta owner.

  • Verus

ofcourse not, logic doesn’t apply here. it’s only fine when nintendo does it after all.

  • OldPalpy

I think they’ve managed to stay angry longer that anyone who was over Bayonetta 2 being locked to the console embodiment of “meh”. If you whisper “maybe Bayonetta 2 will come to PC” as lightly as you can and if you listen closely you can hear cucks stampeding to their keyboards.

  • DrearierSpider

When console games go to PC, it’s an upgrade. When PC games go to consoles, it’s a downgrade. I have no issues with ports one way or another, but being excited for a worse version of a game is something I’ll never understand.

  • VLOCKUP

    4K Bayo for the win.

  • VLOCKUP

What a time to be PC owner. Many games coming to Steam :)

  • Malcolm_Ecks

Maybe not for those games, but soon. Japan’s console market ain’t so hot these days and PC’s revenue share’s are bigger than console’s.

  • Malcolm_Ecks

Not a controlling stake. Just a timed exclusivity deal. Sega owns the IP, Nintendo has no say if Sega builds a port themselves.

  • catazxy

Nice, I just wish a physical version was available too…

  • catazxy

I’m sorry I cant hear you with all those corporations cocks in your mouth.

  • Jack Thompson

From what I’ve heard, many users with sufficient specs have had a fatal white screen glitch just after the first boss. There’s also no borderless window, and for many the game won’t run fast enough unless they apply a third party patch that changes how the lighting works. Plat has shown no post launch support for these issues and others. Most don’t expect them to either based on a lack of support for previous PC ports.

  • perfectsword

Not in this case; Kamiya said that Bayo 2 cannot appear on other platforms without Ninty’s permission, see here: http://www.idigitaltimes.com/bayonetta-2-xbox-one-ps4-hideki-kamiya-confirms-non-wii-u-versions-are-basically-never-going-happen

Bayonetta 2 will forever remain a Wii U exclusive.

  • Malcolm_Ecks

That answer has changed over the years from “Asky Ninty” to “Ask Ninty/Sega”. People keep thinking paying for development equals IP ownership. It doesn’t. It never has. Nintendo bought a contract and payed for development. Nothing more is solidly proven.

  • SinkingSage
