Worldwide Shipments for Persona 5 Top 1.5 Million Units

Atlus has announced that worldwide shipments for Persona 5 have topped 1.5 million units.

This new milestone comes after the game’s western launch in North America and Europe on April 4th, this past Tuesday.

Atlus reported 550,000 units shipped in Japan alone back in October of last year shortly after its September release, so we don’t know the full breakdown of how western sales affected that number outside speculation.

Atlus also confirmed they’ll continue supporting and promoting the Persona series outside just video games, pointing to their Persona concert going down on August 2nd.

Persona 5 is now available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

Expect our review for the game soon, and make sure to follow our own video streaming for the game via our “Month of Persona” feature, where we’ll upload daily, lengthy videos of us playing Persona 5. Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for when each video drops!

  • Mr0303

Glad to see that the game is successful. Hopefully after the backlash Atlus will remove the idiotic streaming restrictions.

  • That’s great and all, but who knows how many they’ll sell after this backlash Atlus is dealing with right now?

  • SevTheBear

I think they will survive :)

  • SevTheBear

Yeah it’s a weird move. Let’s hope they are quick at learning :P

  • Migi

I just hope they’ll include japanese dub in their other games next.

  • tccboss

Let’s see how much they sell in the up coming months.

  • Kiryu

    I predicted 2 mil sold a while ago,let’s see if i’m right.

  • Chocolate ISISCream

Sony just keeps on delivering. They are, without a doubt, unironically, for the players.

  • Chocolate ISISCream

Reminder that this will never be released on PC.

  • Himegami Aisa

I haven’t heard of any other games’ sales figured impacted significantly by disabling streaming, so I doubt it’s going to hurt the bottom line in any big way. Still shitty, but not a dealbreaker for most consumers.

  • Uncle Ocelot

I think there’s a very high chance it’ll hit that by the end of the month.

  • Ms_Fortune

Average consumer won’t care, it only affects streamers and youtubers.

  • Snorlaxation

Hopefully. Variety is never a bad thing, and gives everyone an option, plus lowers the amount of complaints.

  • sanic

Good thing this wasn’t published by capcom or Square or it’d be considered a failure.

  • [Unoriginal Name Here]™

Congrats to Atlus for making such an amazing game. I’m so addicted to it.

Can people just get over the fact that you can’t stream or upload to their mediocre YT Let’s Play channel (Yes there are people who actually use the Share Factory app). What happened to just having fun than trying to become the next mediocre LP channel or talentless streamer?

    Last thing, Square Enix:

  • It probably wouldn’t be a big dent, but there will probably be a couple of copies lying around for a little while.

  • Migi

Complaints aren’t always bad, especially valid ones like japanese dub being better then english, its just that some ppl can’t accept this fact and start making excuses.

Complaining actually help make japanese dub a standard so it does show its very effective, Also its more reasonable complaint then what SJW/FEminist are nowdays doing to gaming.

  • Feniks

Yeah I despise “gamer culture” and don’t watch streams so it doesn’t affect me but I wonder what Sega was thinking.

  • Sony Just keeps winning over and over

I can’t even keep up with all these amazing PS4 games. Why me?

  • Kiryu

    Gamers:Square Enix is dead.

  • Fear Me I Am Free

I don’t know about that. As much as I love Sony and my PS4, Microsoft has made some really good decisions with Xbox One like backwards compatibility.

  • Fear Me I Am Free

I saw a thread on /v/ bitching about it. The only problems that were brought up in the thread that slightly concerned me is that there’s a number of grammar issues apparently. They also bitched about some meme speak added in, but it was from the hacker girl so it fits in my opinion. I’ve heard overall the localization of the story is pretty spot on and that there’s no censorship.

  • Snorlaxation

Dub vs Sub is an argument that is both objective and subjective, depending on the Way that the person’s voice sounds, and how well they Acted for the role.
Some of the characters in the english version of certain games and anime sound much better than the japanese versions, and the reverse is also very true. Just depends on the subject. (I preferred the original dub voice actress for Sakura in Card Captor Sakura over her japanese voice and gross Animax dub).

  • Tristan (Chili1)

Sony had nothing to do with Persona 5 other than hosting it on their platform. They didn’t even fund P5’s development

  • I bought my PS4 to play new games not old games.

  • If it wasn’t for the PS4, Persona 5 would have flopped. Surely you didn’t think it would sell on Xbone or Wii U/Switch

  • SiliconNooB

Just like Trails of Cold Steel!!!! XD

    Too soon?

  • SiliconNooB

It would probably sell OK on the Switch [once enough systems are sold], but obviously PS4 is a more solid platform for JRPGs.

  • le master trole

    RPCS3 is getting there.
    Your asshurt will be delicious.

  • Fear Me I Am Free

Well I play old and new. I’d like to play them on one system.

  • Tristan (Chili1)

I think it’d sell on anything by its name

  • Flamingfighter

Not necessarily. A game like FFXV only sold a few thousand copies on XBone compared to the millions on Playstation and, on the surface, Persona looks to be more of a niche appeal game.

  • Flamingfighter

There have been a couple of genuine grammatical mistakes that don’t sound natural, but in most cases incorrect grammar is uttered by characters that wouldn’t necessarily speak with perfect grammar all the time.

As far at the meme speak, an early introduced plot device is the “Phan-site”, which is an anonymous messaging forum based around the Phantom Thieves. Comments fromt he site will show up in the bottom right of day transitions. One or two occasionally have something like “YAAAAAAAAAS!” or one will even say “kek”. One Social Link character actually says “kek” out loud in a conversation but it’s treated as an awkward thing to do and the character is more or less a cringy type of character that spends way too much time on these anonymous forums.

  • Fear Me I Am Free

So would you say it fits? Because it sounds like it does.

  • Ace

    It was really good.

  • Armando Suetonio Amezcua

the same you said about LoH :Trails of Cold steel faggot , so watch your words!!

  • Flamingfighter

I’d say so. I have seen a few genuine mistakes in unspoken script, but the vast majority of the mistakes comes form a character that starts out being named “Vulgar Boy”

  • I want this game to sell more than FFXV so badly that game is garbage. I haven’t even played a persona game yet but I wish that it would take over the popularity and sales strength that FF still has.

FF is too far gone in quality now.
