Project X Zone Co-Producer Koji Ishitani Resigns

Koji Ishitani has announced his resignation from Monolith Soft.

The news comes via a Tweet posted on Ishitani personal Twitter, where he confirmed his departure from the company. Most recently, he was the co-producer of Project X Zone and Project X Zone 2.

Ishitani worked at Monolith Soft for roughly sixteen years, where he was involved with a number of games, including: Xenosaga Episode IProject X Zone, and even Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. He went on to thank his fans, as well as the people he worked alongside throughout the years.

Ishitani is the second high-profile staffer to leave Monolith Soft this past weekend, as Project X Zone director Soichiro Morizumi also confirmed his leave from the company.

    so… what’s going on?

  • Is there someone in Japan hunting down game developers or something? The Valkyrie Profile dude just resign a couple of hours ago, now this guy!

  • ChazDragoon

could be alot of things… perhaps they see the problems of the industry and refuse to deal with it anymore.
Maybe they realized this wasn’t for them.
Maybe they’ve made enough money to live a calm life.
Could be Monolith is a terrible company to work for and they’re gtfo-ing.
Also note the games he’s done (at least the ones listed in this article) are from Bandai-Namco…perhaps they are part of the reason to leave?

I dunno…but that’s just a few possible reasons i could think of, specially given the games under his belt and the other director going too.

    Is EA in japan now?

  • InkViper

All these guys resigning is starting to get a bit disconcerting! of course I want to be surprised if they form a new studio together.

You guys in the comments do know the Japanese Gaming market is kinda hurting now right? Been a lot of layoffs and quiet closures the past couple years.

There goes any hope for a project x zone 3. This is coincidental in that I am wrapping up my first playthrough of PxZ pretty soon. Gorgeous sprite work with a fun story just strong enough to justify all the franchises coming together.

Also the music is pretty damn good.

Maybe there is nothing going on. Most of these guys have worked at these places for close to 20 years. Maybe they’re just ready to move on.

  • Tubsiwub

…and another one bites the dust!

Seriously though, I loved Baten Kaitos.

  • Thanks for the info. Makes me really worried about what it’s going to be happening over the following months and then E3.

  • Uncle Ocelot

These recent resignations from Monolith and Square Enix can’t just be a coincidence, given the time span.

  • Fenrir007

Maybe they are all gathering together to form a new studio…? I sure hope so.

Jeez, first Stallone backs out on The Expendables 4, and now this guy…
