Shovel Knight, Fast RMX are Switch Launch Titles, Specter of Torment is Timed Exclusive

Nintendo has confirmed a few indie games as launch titles for the Nintendo Switch.

Yacht Club Game’s critically acclaimed platformer, Shovel Knight, will be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch. Along with this, Yacht Club announced that the second expansion for the game, Specter of Torment, will be a timed exclusive for the Switch.

As previously announced, the expansion will be available both separately for 10$, or with all of the other campaigns in the Treasure Trove for 25$. Yacht Club Games also reiterated that all current owners of Shovel Knight will be upgraded to Treasure Trove, and that Specter of Torment will come to other platforms in April.

Along with the Shovel Knight announcement, Shin’en Multimedia confirmed that the follow-up to Wii U’s futuristic racer FAST RACING NEO, FAST RMX, will also be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo will reveal more about these games and other indies planned for the Switch during a live stream this Tuesday at 9am PST. Shovel Knight and FAST RMX will launch with the Switch March 3rd.

Currently interning at Niche Gamer. I've been playing video games since I was three years old.

Maybe it’s just the whole “using a shovel to dig up gems” mechanic, but I don’t see the appeal of Shovel Knight.

  • Mr0303

It’s essentially Duck Tales + Mega Man and the controls are quite good. It is in fact one of the best 2D platformers released in recent memory.

  • Uncle Ocelot

Anyone getting a Switch should also get Fast, the Wii U one was 10/10.

  • This, pretty much. The game is ridiculously tight and feels incredible to control. It doesn’t look like too much, but it’s a blast to play. Great map and boss design are the other highlights.

Waiting for a month for Specter of Torment isn’t too much of a pain. Can’t complain given that it’s free.

That’s like, .5% of the game. Everything else, as already mentioned, is just a really good 2D platformer.

Fast RMX is a day one purchase for me. The intense racing action will balance Zelda’s more relaxed open-world vibe nicely. It’ll also tide me over until Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launches in April.

For sure! The first one was great and a nice challenge.

  • Same. I really really wish they’d do physical, but Redout is getting a physical release (and a Switch version too).
