Yakuza 0 Hands-on English Preview

Niche Gamer Plays is an ongoing video preview series where our staff take an in-depth and yet concise look at classic, current, and upcoming games across all current gaming platforms.

The western release of Yakuza 0 is rapidly approaching, and we’ve already gotten extensive hands-on time with the game.

To help curb your appetite for 1980s shenanigans in Japan, I recorded playing the game for roughly 20 minutes – you can view my playthrough above with some commentary.

Yakuza 0 is launching in North America and Europe for PS4 on January 24th. Expect our written and video review for the game very soon.

  • Disappointing that they didn’t go with 80’s era music

This is the only Yakuza game so far that bummed me out because of the opening music. tbh in the other 5 games I actually think the western opening is better than the japanese one (especially in 4) but the JP theme for Yakuza 0 by Shonan no Kaze is by far the best in the series.

Probably some licensing issues so they replaced the song. You know how it is with Japanese music industry.

cleansing my game palette by not playing anything till this comes in the mail.

I still haven’t finished Yakaza 5, I’m surprised this game is releasing around the corner. I need to get the ball rolling and finish Y5 before this releases, I really want to support this series because the games are genuinely fun.

  • I should really get around to buying the Yakuza games.

Yakuza 0 is the perfect place to start. Chronologically its the first game.

Also since the opening has been changed due to licensing issues I’ll post the original japanese opening.
