Gorgeous, Wuxia-Themed MMORPG Moonlight Blade Gets Western Release

Chinese behemoth Tencent recently held a fan-event for their wuxia-themed (martial arts) free-to-play MMORPG Moonlight Blade.

During the event, the publisher confirmed a western release for the game in North America and Europe, alongside the previously announced Nexon-published Korean version.

Alongside the western release comes a big update to the “Romantic Destiny” game, which adds new content, a new character class(es), various improvements and tweaks via fan feedback, and what appears to be a naval battle system.

Featured above, you can view a trailer that will give you an idea of the new content arriving in the sizable update.

Currently in open-beta, the game has been praised for its beautiful environments, fantastic combat animations, its massive promise, and that dedication to the wuxia style. Seriously if that above video doesn’t move you, I dunno what will.

Further details for the western release have not been announced, however we’ll keep you guys posted.

If you’re looking to get into the Chinese version of the game’s open beta, you should follow this handy tutorial on how to make a QQ account and properly install+update the game. You’ll need that QQ account, as all China-made games require it for authentication.

a very cool video from one angry gamer featuring the flying feature, go to 2:16 if not patient http://www.oneangrygamer.net/2016/11/moonlight-blade-online-combines-wuxia-with-aerial-ballet/17557/

Man, I hate super heavy Asian-themed things… Just my preference, of course. My real opinion would be that this feels like another doomed-to-fail project being sent overseas to die.

Can’t they ban the “sh” sound from mandarin? It just annoys me to no end, the way it ruins the flow of the song.

For that alone I will give it a try. That’s beautiful.

You think that’s annoying, try a day in a Vietnamese household. Something you’ll learn is that Vietnamese soap operas will always have some chick crying.

  • Fear Me I Am Free

Let’s hope it doesn’t get censored to hell like Blade & Soul did.

    Run!

Looks a lot better than Age of Wushu, which I think is the only other MMO that ever came to a western market. And Age of Wushu is unfortunately quite mechanics-heavy at this point with all the different styles, which can be daunting for new people to get into.

The translation is also pretty funny so hopefully this one will be given some proper care.

Jesus, that is some amazing flying.

There’s Swordsman Online too, though I dunno if it made it out of beta, and 9 Dragons back in the day.

Blade & Soul has wuxia aspects, plus the Kung Fu Master is very fun. That said all that I’ve played never satisfied me, though I remember seeing footage of this game years ago and thinking it looked interesting. I really hope it’s fun.

9Dragons really needs a sequel. The game had so many great ideas. And the animation quality was quite high.
