New SNES Fighting Game from Ex-SNK Devs Unholy Night Launching February 2017

The Super Nintendo has long since been discontinued, however that hasn’t stopped enthusiasts from putting out new games for the 16-bit gaming console.

Now, we’ve learned (via NeoGAF) of a new fighting game being developed for the system, by former SNK developers.

To match the decade the console was available in, the game is appropriately titled Unholy Night: The Darkness Hunter. I can almost feel the edginess, even before seeing the in-game sprites. Featured above, you can view a build of the game running on the SNES at this year’s Hong Kong Retro Video Game Expo.

Unholy Night clearly takes a page out of Capcom’s Darkstalkers series in that it channels a supernatural theme, including playable characters like vampires, and a werewolf. In total there are six playable characters, which you can read more about on the game’s website, although it’s in Chinese.

Unholy Night: The Darkness Hunter is literally releasing next February, and will be available on a physical cartridge. A price hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s worth mentioning the game appears to be completely in English, so it will be import friendly. We’ll keep you guys posted.

In related news, we previously reported on a Neo Geo fighting game prototype found, however that game was likely cancelled internally before ever getting an official announcement. You can read more about that here.
