  • sanic

    Everyone should play this game.

  • Mr0303

That’s awesome. People should give it a try.

  • Kakaku

Quick question. Is it possible for me to create an Xbox account online, “buy” the game while its free, and then once I get an Xbox One/360 would I be able to download it? That trick worked with timed free DLC on PSN so I’m wondering if I can do the same here.

  • Fear Me I Am Free

That was one of the few Xbox exclusives I actually really enjoyed. Such a neat rpg.

  • Didney Worl

Yes. Unlike PS+, any free games you get from Xbox Live Gold are yours to keep even after your membership expires. I used one of the 2 day Gold trials and got Murdered Soul Suspect for free.

  • sanic

I don’t know if xbox golds required for the free download that’s the only potential impediment I see.

  • Kakaku

I just checked. Its available to non gold users as well. Looks like all I need is to create a Microsoft account and then click the buy button. I should own the game at that point.

  • Didney Worl

    Nice!

  • Sigma

It’s really corny in some parts

  • DrearierSpider

You mean IS one of the few, as opposed to something like Dead Rising, which WAS an Xbox exclusive until a couple months ago.

  • 2501

Awesome game, really hope it would come to PC one day.

  • MusouTensei

One of the best JRPGs of last gen, and barely anything from this gen reaches it either, I highly recommend it, for free it shoudl be a no brainer, unless you really hate JRPGs.

  • totenglocke

I just bought this a few weeks ago! Oh well, at least I have a physical copy.

  • catazxy

I don’t care for most of xbox exclusives, but hell, I wish this one was on pc since I cant find it for my old 360.

  • Travis Touchdown

    Got it right away.

  • Guin

    How Western pandering is this?

  • larverto365

This game came out in like 2008. Social justice warriors weren’t really attacking video games at the time.

  • Guin

I’m aware of that, but this was also around the time that Japanese devs had this misconception that “West=best.”

  • Chocolate ISISCream

Of course there’s always one fucking faggot port beggar.

  • larverto365

Are you talking about Dead Rising the game or the series in general? The original game got a remake on the Wii back in 2009.

  • Calm down kid. Your anger will not make the last guardian any less shitter.

  • I sold my Xbox 360 years ago so I can’t take advantage of this deal.

  • GrimFate

One of my favourite Xbox 360 games and console games of that generation :D Now if only they’d make a sequel…

  • GrimFate

If you still have an Xbox account, you can still get it, just in case you get a 360 or One in the future. Being free, there’s nothing to lose.

  • 2501

but muh art direction and 2006 hair/wind physics

  • 2501

    Well… it is Microsoft.

  • I don’t plan to ever get a console again. My money and time will go into my PC.

  • Nagato

There aren’t many late ports I’ll throw money at just like that, but I’ll gladly pay what this game cost back in 2008 again just to have it in my Steam collection.

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

    >demake

Dead Rising on the Wii was one of the most depressing things in existence.

  • Paige

Glad I didnt buy it a while back, sounds good.

  • TGR

    its pretty fucking meh

  • Heresy Hammer

Pretty great game, Nobuo Uematsu nailed this fantastic OST

  • sanic

    I disagree

  • TGR

    Im ok with that

  • ElKonsolero

Not that much to be honest. It´s made in the true spirit of old FF games. The characters look more westernized than other JRPGs but that´s an artstyle decision (you could compare it to JoJo or Berserk which are still very japanese but have a “western” artstyle). Only negative “western” thing i can think of is that they developed the animation with westerners in mind. So the mouth/lipanimation lines up perfectly with the english dub (which is not bad to be honest) but produces horrible lipflaps (english dub FF X-2 bad!) when you use the japanese synchronisation.

  • Novelist3

    It’s not.
Basically, it’s a traditional Final Fantasy game in every way that matters, including having the pedigree of the man who created the series at the helm.
It just goes by a different name.

  • Lother Avanti

The game is NOT free. MS requires you to input a credit card before you can download it. Why do none of these news stories report on this?

  • DrearierSpider

Just the original game, and I don’t count the Wii version because I’m not insane.

  • DrearierSpider

If you got it for “free,” you’d just have to keep paying for XBLG to play it anyways.

  • Kakaku

Most people assume that’s common knowledge. You aren’t getting charged off the card so it would technically be considered “free” anyway.

Those measures usually don’t work though and you can just use any old card lying around your house. I just used an old debit card.

  • Kakaku

Now that I think about it the need for a debit/credit card is probably a policy left over from the creation of Xbox Gold subscriptions.

If its anything like PSN they’ll give you a free trail for two weeks or so and if you forget to cancel then they charge you for a full month. With subs there is usually an option to cancel automatic renewal, but you’ll have to go to account settings yourself. I’m positive Crunchyroll does this and I’m almost positive Netflix, Hulu, etc. do this as well. Its scummy, but its been accepted as a norm.

  • Kakaku

Sorry for writing walls. Really should’ve slept hours ago.

Anyway just use an old debit card lying around the house. After that promptly delete the number from your Microsoft account just to be sure.

Requiring a form of payment for a free product is basically the norm. That’s why articles don’t mention it. Consumers accepted it and now companies do it regularly.

  • TGR

    Wtf shit games you playing?

  • TGR

    Shit story/characters
    Boss is meh
    Limited spells

  • You don’t need XBLG for this game.

  • totenglocke

    No, it’s free for everyone.

  • MusouTensei

I’m not playing Naughty Dog games, what are you talking about?

  • TGR

“One of the best JRPGs of last gen, and barely anything from this gen reaches it either, ”
This. I can’t even read this back with a straight face.

  • MusouTensei

What JRPGs of this gen have a quality and quantity of LO?

  • ネミッサ

Seriously? Are we talking about the same game with a story that goes nowhere and one dimensional characters? Pretty much EVERY JRPG released to date is better than it. Hell I’ll if I had to compare to another modern game it would literally be Star Ocean 5. Only thing it had going for it was the beginning hell I bought it just after seeing immortal mc taking down soldiers one at a time.

  • ネミッサ

Better games lul at “quantity” imo ofc

    1. Strange Journey (same gen)
    2. Tales of Vesperia (same gen)
    3.7th Dragon III Code: VFD
    4. Stella Glow
    5. SMT 4 Apocalypse
    6. Digimon: Cyber Sleuth
    7. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3 V Generation (eh I liked it way more)
    8. Dark Souls (A JRPG?)
    9. Atelier Ayesha
    10. Eternal Sonata (same gen)
    11. Star Ocean: The Last Hope

    Also this was pretty funny

  • It’s not the norm as both GOG and steam don’t do that.

  • MusouTensei

They are good games, but LO is better. Also never had that problem with the disk.

  • Samuel Nathan

It is more likely that we will be able to play 360 games on Windows 10 before LO comes on PC.

  • Samuel Nathan

Someday you might be able to play 360 games on PC. If you ever wanted it, better to get it on your account.

  • Kakaku

A mistake on my part. Like I said I was tired

Companies generally only asking for a credit card (CC)if its for a subscription trial. Automatic renewal is usually on by default. Free games can generally be purchased with no information. They might ask you anyway to trick you.

Apperently with Xbox 360 free games you need CC, but not with Xbox One. I just tested that out after deleting my debit card. PSN, Steam, and GOG don’t require a card for free games.
