Rockstar Games Post Mysterious Tease for Red Dead Redemption Sequel

cu5abbhw8aakgux

Rockstar Entertainment just posted a mysterious pic on their official Twitter account. The red background and the Rockstar Games logo drawn like a brand iron burn is speculated by fans to be a teaser to a new Red Dead Redemption title.

The sequel for the 2010’s western action game (itself being a sequel to Red Dead Revolver), has been speculated for a while, with the tentative title “Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West” being claimed to be the name of that game by anonymous tipsters.

We will update as soon as more information is known.

  • inquisitormcsagington

One would hope that they aren’t about to drop Red Dead Mobile-I think there would be riots.

  • Extrange

    or some crappy “HD remaster”

  • inquisitormcsagington

I would hope not-but they may port it to PC which would keep them happy, so there’s a high chance that’s exactly what it is.

  • Vagineer1

I doubt they would announce a pc port like this. This has to be something a lot bigger than a mere port.

  • Extrange

Like I’ve wrote on the article, Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West has been rumored since March, supposedly by a disgruntled ex-employer

  • Vagineer1

I do hope it is a new Red Dead game. Redemption was bloody amazing.

  • Extrange
  • ScarredBushido

    it probably a re-release on ps4 or a pc port….

  • Heavily Augmented

I just want a silky smooth 60 FPS PC port Rockstar. I’ve been waiting for over six years.

    Red Dead Remastered

  • Master Bating

I guess we’ll just have to wait 2 months to know if its a remaster or a Next Gen port.
Its likely a new game though considering Rockstar doesnt do remasters.

  • Etherblaze

YES PLEASE. Bring me back to the wild west, let me be an outlaw!

  • Obbliglol

I absolutely loved RDR, so I’d be really happy with a remaster or a new game.

  • Pillbugable

    Well, except for GTAV.

And those janky ports of the GTA3 era games.

  • Zanard Bell

Still waiting for Bully 2, though.

  • John Smith.

Oh great, the most depressing game I have ever played gets a sequel.

  • Still waiting for Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis 2.

  • Haters_Gonna_Hate

Uh, GTA V? It runs with smooth FPS even with my potato PC.

  • Heavily Augmented

GTA V was quite a nice port but GTA isn’t Red Dead in the slightest. Hoping that Rockstar are keeping the trend of well optimized PC ports like Max Payne 3 and GTA V if this is a remaster they’re teasing at.

  • Madbrainbox

Shooter with a controller? You will recommend torture next?

  • Neojames82

I thought they couldn’t re-release it because they lost the original code though.

  • Zanard Bell

Nah, GTA V is my preferred Tennis simulator. :^)

  • s_fnx

No PC version. Rockstar hates PC.

  • s_fnx

You have better chances of winning the lottery than getting Rockstar to make a PC version of a Red Dead game.

  • Tristan (Chili1)

There is LITERALLY nothing wrong with consumers letting companies know what they want.

  • Meh, rather play Kenka Bancho 6 if I want an open world attached or this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJExs9eaTp0

  • DrearierSpider

Supposedly the source code is ducked beyond belief, with R* themselves having no idea how it’s even functioning on the 360/PS3. Really hoping the delivery the goods though.

  • DrearierSpider

Hopefully we get the long awaited PC port, a remaster for consoles and the sequel. Willing to bet my left nut that ain’t happening though.

  • Travis Touchdown

Real niche game you got there, writers.

Anyway, I hope the novelty of a ‘GTA set in the WEST!’ wears off soon. I strongly disliked people pushing RDR as GOTY material because Marston died at the end. The game itself plays like hot garbage, and rips off too many plot points from famous westerns.

RDR is right up with there with TLOU and Undertale for being games that didn’t deserve the hype. I’m really anxious to see Breath of the Wild set the new standard for open world games, making the GTA tactic of just having empty wastelands that cops can chase you in look rather primitive.

  • Extrange

Travis, I truly appreciate your contribution. You’re what I call a “Reverse Critic”, someone who feels the need to be against the mainstream opinion for the mere sake of drama and conflict.

So, I do really enjoy each time you post, Travis. It’s a badge of honour.

  • DrearierSpider

It’s too bad he never got the chance to insert these into your rectum before his untimely passing, Travis.

  • Smug
  • Uncle Ocelot

That would be the ideal scenario, announce a remaster of the last game with not shit coding so that can actually be ported to PC this time, then finish it off with a teaser for the sequel.

  • John Smith.

Eh yeah… I was talking about the general tone of the game. How you can’t go five in game miles without running into someone being either robbed, hanged or attacked by cannibals.
And don’t even get me started on the npcs you can interact with, I thought GTA IV had really deplorable npcs, but RDR took them to levels I haven’t even seen before.

  • Uncle Ocelot

Yeah yeah, Breath of the Wild looks like a really good open world game but that doesn’t make it the second coming of Christ (or Iwata in your case).
“making the GTA tactic of just having empty wastelands”
That’s basically all we’ve seen of Zelda so far though.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

Nah, that’s obviously tire skid marks, Smugglers Run sequel.

  • Uncle Ocelot

Red Dead Revolver just got released on PS4 this week too, which might be another hint of an announcement coming.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

Every time I see that video, I can’t help but wonder what was going through Namcos head when they conceived one of the most annoying loading screens ever made.

All right then, point me any open-world wild-west game.

  • tccboss

I love how PC is master race but beg for those shitty console ports.

  • Madbrainbox

Sadly we’ll never get anything better than Eclipse from Berserk.Or anything close.Unless Miura is preparing something unexpected.

  • luggage lad

it is if you’re a fanboy and console exclusivity is something you lose sleep over.

they’re not annoyed with PC gamers asking for ports, they’re just scared they might lose another exclusive. they still got PTSD over Dark Souls.

  • Lucky

Wild Arms, if you count the standard JRPG overworld as “open-world”.

  • Lucky

It was just the standard Wild West grit to me. You catch many westerns?

  • Tristan (Chili1)

I don’t believe I said anything about a “master race”

  • Smug

not on muh Nintendo for Cody/Travis

  • sanic

I’m probably an exception but I enjoy red dead revolver more than red dead redemption.

  • Madbrainbox

Clunky? If those are clunky what would you call GTA4?

  • Zombie_Barioth

You do realize being alone in the wilderness is basically the main point of Breath of the Wild don’t you? It won’t be any less of a wasteland if that’s what you think an open-world game is.

You also missed the point if its “ripping off” plot points from westerns. Being a homage/parody is pretty much the point.

  • Kakaku
  • Bob Smith

    >”Mainstream sucks, fight the man! *applies black nail polish*
    >”So how about that new Zelda game?!”

    You’re a Leaf aren’t you?

  • Bob Smith

BotW really already looks like a wasteland. Go look at their “forests” and the lack of any sort of foliage or canopy in them. What we’ve seen of the game consists of grass fields with trees in random spots and not much more.

  • Pillbugable

I meant the port quality of the “remaster” of San Andreas on XBLA, which was a port of the Android version, and it had several effects missing compared to the PS2 version.

  • Madbrainbox

Ah.Remasters.I have no idea why I thought you were talking about their PC ports. My bad.

  • Zombie_Barioth

That’s probably because they aren’t supposed to be dense, what we’ve seen is more grassy woodland than forest. Make things too dense and horseback riding will be a pain in the ass.

They seem to be going for a setup similar to the first Zelda. Most of the real action will probably take place in caves or dungeons. That would make the outside the “empty wasteland” with nothing to do Travis seems to think every other open-world game is.

  • DDD-kun

Y’know, I have to ask as this is a niggling topic that’s been bugging me: Why do you care?

Specifically: Why does NICHEgamer care about Triple-A production teasers? Nothing against them and obviously this has SOME kind of following (I’d argue series like these are more autopilot following than conscious efforts to be excited). But, aside of your sponsors holding you all by the short & curlies, I cannot for the life of me understand how mainstream gaming news takes up the percentage of the site as it does. Why is that? What’s the value in covering these big snapper topics for you guys?

  • eggly hills

Did you really just compare red dead with Tumblr the video game?

  • Cats736

    Begging, right.

  • Arbitrary

Digging all the people who feel so very, very threatened by Travis Touchdown’s comment.

Christ; you people are fucking bankrupt.

  • Arbitrary

    Wait.

Did you just unironically defend “The Last of Us” and “Undertale” as NOT being fucking overrated?

Holy shit. You fucking people never cease to amaze me.

It’s people who genuinely think “The Last of Us” has good story and storytelling that convinces me that gamers deserve their reputation as being immature manchildren. Please stop dragging the rest of us down with you.

  • John Smith.

Yeah, I have watched a few westerns in my life, but I still felt overly depressed thanks to the tone of the game.

  • Travis Touchdown

“Niche’, to the users mean, means porn. So obviously they don’t actually care about actual niche releases like Return to Popolocrois, River City, or even something like Dragon Quest.

It’s not an anime bae, it can go away.

  • Travis Touchdown

They really aren’t all that different.

  • Smug

What he meant is that Travis Touchdown cant stop sucking Nintendo’s dick on every occasion he gets (for some poor attempt at “trolling” like he himself admitted), while acting like a contrarian autist faggot on pretty much everything else. There is no doubt his standards, knowledge and experience in vidya overall are pretty low.

Then again what can we expect from an autist with a balding cuck face

  • Smug

    >being triggered by porn
    >only caring for niche games localized on your 3DS because it’s NoA

    you’re not helping your case

Comparing this to fucking shit like Undertale

    ah another shitpost disqus account

  • True Goddess Reincarnation

its was a bait comment and I can taste your salt from here.

  • DDD-kun

    Yes. And….?

  • DDD-kun

Dragon Quest is not niche by any stretch of the imagination, no matter how much Square-Enix & Nintendo snubbed western markets. And niche is not about porn. Porn is about porn.

  • Evja

You didn’t play it, did you?

  • DDD-kun

Nor do I have intent to. Me and open world sandboxes do not get along. Though Red Dead isn’t the only game I’m asking about, here.

  • Mind being specific?

My response will probably still be: These articles aren’t overshadowing the more typical stuff, Red Dead is considerably more niche among the AAA sandbox party and just because people browse or write here doesn’t mean they exclusively care for niche games or all niche games.

(Or drop games when they go mainstream)

  • I get the feeling that a lot of that may be down to how low profile Revolver is in comparison to the successor.

    I don’t know a thing about Revolver.

  • “Overrated” was always an overhyped shitty buzzword.

  • Happens to be of interest (much more so that higher profile AAA games) and it isn’t like we have dozens of these overshadowing what NicheGamer tends to be known for.

Well lemme tell you back in the day it was sick it had that gritty feel too everything, and the multiplayer had a great arcade feel to it, graphically it’s pretty ugly now though.

  • DDD-kun

RDR isn’t exactly smalltime, however, even if it may not be (to my memory) a console pusher such as Uncharted or CoD would be. It could also be allowed that you’ll see big news passing through these parts on occasion. But the obvious teaser like this counting as worthy of a blip is kind of odd to what I see as the purpose of the site, which is to inform, update, and venture in-depth to the more non-mainstream and generally low-audience titles that exists outside of Triple-A markets. 3A work here gets good coverage, usually I feel in a “gotta-get-there-first” style of reporting if there’s nothing juicy to nibble on (Dues Ex serves as a sample, having had quick articles and more in-depth stuff resulting from controversy). I was curious on if this was the intent, or if I’m off the mark and there’s another perspective I should be considering.

  • DDD-kun

I promise not further than some gameplay vids. I seriously cannot cope with open world spots and get bored with them in lighting streaks. Still have yet to finish Assassin’s Creed (which isn’t even that open world)—prefer the PSP title to the main games, honestly. Concise, precise, and just fun enough.
