PS4 3D-Platformer Bound Set for August 16 Release

Sony Santa Monica Studio and developer Plastic have confirmed the release date for Bound, their upcoming 3D platformer.

The PlayStation 4-exclusive will launch via the PlayStation Network on August 16th – news confirmed during Sony’s E3 2016 press conference. Featured above, you can view a new trailer for the game.

You can find a brief synopsis for the game below, via Sony:

Bound transports you into a beautiful, fantastical world that exists in the mind of a woman revisiting the memories of her childhood. You’ll use dance moves to traverse vast environments filled with platforming challenges. As the game progresses, the introspective story unfolds through powerful metaphor and imagery, adding emotional depth to the protagonist’s journey.

No physical, huh? Then it can wait.

All them other niggas lame, and you know it now
When a real nigga hold you down, you supposed to drown
    Bound

  • Didney Worl

But not for too long though. One minute it might still be there and the next minute BAM! Delisted.

  • Mr0303

Looks interesting, but I wonder how they’ve included the dancing into the actual gameplay.

  • scemar

all right so they have a surrealistic visual approach and a sort of lore jutification for it as a visual metaphor of someone’s internal mind

not a fan of the minimalistic and plain asthetics of the game but I like the fact that they chose a particular style of presentation and commit to it, which is cool

as for the actual platformer gameplay, I didn’t really see anything that excited me at all yet but this trailer was dedicated to showcasing the style of the game so perhaps a future trailer will explore the substance instead

An example of a recent PS4 game that did this? And I mean a paid one not a free demo

  • Didney Worl

The only PS4 game I can think of was Afro Samurai 2. The PS4 is still relatively young so we probably won’t start seeing bigger digital games getting the axe for maybe another year or two.

However, it really is a matter of when, not if. Digital Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii games have been dropping like flies over the past few years. Some major examples include Scott Pilgrim, the Marvel vs. Capcom games, and Turtles in Time Re-Shelled.

Wikipedia has a list of games that have been removed from just XBLA alone. If I counted correctly, so far there have been at least 115 games that are now lost forever.

  • Sunny11

When its delisted if you purchased it you can still download it I just redownloaded Scott Pilgrim last month and for others too

  • ProxyDoug

This game looks pretentious as fuck.

  • Didney Worl

Yes…if you purchased it. But if you didn’t, you lost your chance. I never bought Turtles in Time Re-Shelled and now, I’ll never be able to. It’s not like I can just pirate it like I could a PC game. When a digital console game is lost, it’s lost forever.

Besides, once those servers go down, redownloading won’t even be an available option anymore. The DSi’s shop will be shutting down next year, so if you’re still playing on a DSi, every game you didn’t have saved on your SD card will be gone and you won’t be able to redownload it.

It’s even worse with Xbox Live Indie Games. Those games require an online connection to even play the demo, let alone the full game. So when the servers shut down next year, even if you downloaded them, you can’t even play them.

  • Sunny11

It’s definitely not lost “forever” usually by the end of that lifespan when it gets hacked people get those files and make it live forever just cannot be gotten through normal legal means but through more tedious ways but still accessible

Looks like some kind of combat mechanic.

  • Dale Frewaldt

    Hold me closer tiny dancer.

  • Mr0303

This could be interesting, but we haven’t seen any combat yet.

  • Dunk

Entire selling point of the game is “our character animations sure are purty.”

Safe to say it won’t be worth talking about by the end of the year.

  • Dale Frewaldt

0:55-1:03, to me it looks like the character is fighting off those black triangles.

  • Mr0303

You are right. The white triangles may be her weapon. Good spot.
