Sony Interactive Entertainment has finally confirmed the long-rumored, slightly-upgraded PlayStation 4 hardware.

The news comes from an interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment president and group CEO Andrew House and Financial Times.

“It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4,” House said in confirming the new hardware’s existence. “We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle.”

The target market for the new console is reportedly ‘hardcore gamers,’ according to House and Sony, and consumers who are early-adopters of 4K televisions and 4K content.

Finally, House said they will not be revealing the console at their E3 press conference next week.

“We want to ensure we have a full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can showcase in their entirety,” House said. He also touched upon the concern of games being exclusive to the new hardware:

“All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4.”
