2D Isometric SRPG Arcadian Atlas Begins Its Crowdfunding Campaign

If you’re a fan of classic, 90s era turn-based strategy RPGs like Ogre Battle or Final Fantasy Tactics, you might be interested to know an indie equivalent to those games, Arcadian Atlas, has just opened up a kickstarter.

The Arcadian royal family is in shambles: a dying king, an illegitimate daughter vying for a throne, and a country tearing itself apart. Every day more eastern troops cross the mountains and pillage local villages, and rumors of an uprising are whispered by desperate men. What a wonderful time to be a soldier.
Enter Desmond and Vashti, two soldiers in the Royal Guard who take orders directly from the Queen. They met on the edge of war, fell in love in the face of adversity, and learned to laugh even when things seemed dire. But can love survive when two sides with very different motives threatens to pull it apart? Can anything survive at all?

Much of the gameplay -and even the GUI elements – from those 90s SRPGs are present in Arcadian Atlas. Height advantages, positioning, skill trees, and a bevy of original classes are all major goals the team is aiming for.

The class system seems to be especially deep, with each occupation getting two more advanced classes they can graduate to. Those of us who enjoyed min-maxing in Final Fantasy Tactics should be kept busy.

The only unfortunate news is that the game is currently expected to only be a 10 hour experience. More missions and a longer story are both tied into the stretch goals, with the developer looking to at least double the available content once the funding reaches a sufficient point.

Having just started, Arcadian Atlas’ Kickstarter has gained 441 backers and is already $14,084 into its stated $90,000 goal. The game will be available for Windows PC, Mac, and Linux platforms.
