[UPDATE]

Japanese website IT Media is reporting they received a statement from Nintendo regarding the rumor:

“This is not an official statement from our company,” said the Nintendo representative. “Production on the Wii U is set to continue through next quarter, and afterwards.”

[ORIGINAL STORY]

According to a report from Japan’s Nikkei (via Dr. Serkan Toto), we’ve learned that Nintendo will be halting production of their Wii U console sometime this year.

The report states that Nintendo has already ceased production of certain Wii U accessories, saying that the unannounced plans confirm the Wii U itself to be discontinued.

The report also states a release for their codenamed NX console successor is not confirmed for this year.

Nintendo is set to reveal the NX console sometime this year. The company recently launched their first smartphone app, Miitomo, which you can read more about here.

  • Ninjagai

    I really hope the Wii U won’t be the only way to play Bayonetta 2.

  • http://twitter.com/ThisIsUMR Kaleido-Ruby

    No successor that is out yet and they’re ending production this year?

    Why do I have a bad feeling about this?

  • deadeye

    I’d bet money that they’re gonna reveal the NX at E3.

    But even so, I’d expect a 2017 release.

    Should be interesting at least.

  • WB1c_Marathon

    Oh wow, sounds kinda like the Saturn in a way. I bought my Wii U for the new Zelda, dumb move on my part looking back.

  • Audie Bakerson

    ” sounds kinda like the Saturn”

    Complete with the US branch ruining everything!

  • blackice85

    I thought it was confirmed actually that they’d reveal the NX at E3?

    Previously I was skeptical whether we’d see it release in 2016, but perhaps so if they’re halting Wii U production, though I’m sure they’ve got plenty already made.

  • BurgerUnit

    Well I’m halting buying any future Nintendo hardware until they can determine whether or not they actually want adult gamers on their systems.

  • blackice85

    Didn’t the Saturn have a botched release too, like it went on sale suddenly without any prep or coordination with retailers?

  • Audie Bakerson

    Saturnday!

  • Carl B.

    Same here. I think quite a few will be passing the NX up due to that as well.

    Plus if that leaked controller image they’re passing around is real, I would rather just continue emulating SNES games then playing emulated ones on a 3rd Ninty console.

  • Audie Bakerson

    They’ve made it pretty clear they do.

    Of course by “they” I mean NCL. NoA clearly doesn’t. If I buy a NX at all I’ll be importing it (which will be easy thanks to Amazon JP now offering international shipping).

  • Carl B.

    I actually loved my Saturn. Shining the Holy Ark, Shining Force 3, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Magic Knight Ray Earth, Mystaria/Riglord Saga, Albert Odyssey…there were some good RPGs on it.

    But they dropped the ball by not bringing out the other 2 SF scenarios.

  • Richard Miller

    Well this proves that the NX is coming out this year and that the Wii U is dead.

  • http://twitter.com/ThisIsUMR Kaleido-Ruby

    I keep hearing mentions that we’ll know details about NX before E3:

    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=198876118&postcount=5861

  • Chocolate ISISCream

    there goes the dream of being able to play your 3ds/ds hard copies on wii u… all we are left with is just a bit over 20 VC games? epic

  • Audie Bakerson

    The Saturn was a fine system, SoA just ensured it was DOA in the states.

  • Biollante

    Between that and Sonic 2sday, I’m pretty sure Sega’s release schedules were based entirely around what would make the best pun.

  • blackice85

    I don’t know why they have to (apparently) look at it as an either/or situation. All the Nintendo fans who grew up with their original system are now well into adulthood, do they want people to fall out of love with them at a certain age or something?

    And while adults can enjoy the more childish games too, but typically as you grow up your tastes broaden. So not only can someone like myself still enjoy Mario, but I also play more mature titles.

  • Kiryu

    Biggest console failure.Poor sales,horrible game support and the few games i wanted to buy the console for got butchered;good that i didnt buy it.

  • scemar

    Great news and good riddance you terrible console.

    Is what I wish I could say while looking forward to the NX but sadly the NX might very well repeat many of the same mistakes as the WiiU because Nintendo hasn’t learned.

    At least the name won’t be a confusing factor.

    At least it seems it will have some sort of unified account.
    But will it still be under powered?

    Will it still be region locked?

    Will it still lack all the online features that are norm in the business?

    What about the usual media features?

    Are first party titles still going to lack important elements?(hey theresmash 4, where is your ranking and leaderboards?)

    Is it gonna force another overpriced gimmick on the users like the last time? Microsoft managed to rectify course halfway through and release a kinnect-less xbone but it’s still impossible to use a WiiU without a gamepad. They haven’t even released a patch for an on screen UI in case someone’s broke.

    Will their e shop be better, perhaps with fairly priced games and worthwhile discounts?

    They got a lot to catch up to.

  • Neojames82

    Why do I have the feeling that Nintendo is falling in a similar pattern that Sega did with their heavy system rotation. Granted, I am well aware that Nintendo isn’t going to go away that quickly like they did, mostly due to the fact that their portable dominance but I think this is for sure going to sour a lot of people from wanting to buy their new console, me included.

    Honestly, Nintendo should just toss their console division in the trash at this point and just focus on portable gaming and they’ll still stand to make a lot of profit.

  • Kiryu

    Don’t you dare bash the Saturn or i call Segata Sanshiro on you.

  • Mr0303

    Well that is somewhat surprising. This confirms the release of the NX this year and that Nintendo has a lot of extra Wii U units laying around.

  • scemar

    With the way their studios handle their games I have to question if they want adult gamers at the top management either.

    Look at zelda, just as piss easy as it always was yes but back then as kids it seemed challenging and at least the puzzles were fresh but no more.
    And the story telling is just as bad, but that is exacerbated by the contrast between a mute protagonist and high end graphics.

    Similar problem with pokemon, no signs of a difficulty setting for veterans to enjoy the game and 0 self awareness, it’s still all aimed at 8 year olds after all this time.

    The only adult gamers they seem to be putting any specific effort in serving are the ones that never picked up a controller in their life and need a golden invincibility powerup.

  • Captain Vidya

    I don’t know how to feel about this. I guess good since the NX will have to come out and we can get this Wii U taste out of our mouths. I guess I need to see what the NX exactly is before coming to a conclusion.

    Hopefully this means that Nintendo’s panicking to turn their shit around. Now if only NoA will follow suit.

  • Kev Lew

    as soon as the Nintendo online account based service goes online Nintendo will get a few digital purchases from me, until then I’m disk only purchase. Get with the times or loose out on my money Nintendo.

  • Mr0303

    The NX might be backwards compatible. If anything at least Nintendo has been good about that.

  • Stilzkin

    Remember when they made Samus talk and focused on the story? Never again.

  • http://nichegamer.net/ bf313

    As someone who never owned a Wii i’m pretty happy with my decision to buy a Wii U. The backwards compatibility is pretty much what sold me the system but stuff like Bayo 2 and Wonderful 101 made it all worth it. It’s a shame that it never caught on because playing on the gamepad is actually a great feature.

  • deadeye

    There’s nothing wrong with focusing on kids. They’ve made it pretty clear that’s a big audience for them. Most people that play Pokemon are still kids. The competitive people are an extremely small minority, so much that I’m surprised Nintendo has thrown them any bones at all.

    Nintendo has (usually) been pretty good about making games that are approachable for kids but still has something for adults, but they’ve been kinda dropping the ball as of late.

    I’m hoping they really re-focus themselves and get their shit straight with the NX.

  • Uncle Slick

    Yeah! Why would adults want to play Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Bayonetta and the many other STUPID games available on the CHILDISH system!

    Those games are NO FUN at all!

  • https://meinoskaen.wordpress.com/ Meinos Kaen

    It’s less about ‘adult’ games and more about third parties. Nintendo always makes consoles that are a bitch to program for.

  • Uncle Slick

    I’m the only person that likes the Wii U.

  • Daryl Corey

    Nah I like mine just fine

  • scemar

    Smash- no ranks, no leaderboard, no lobbies.
    Mario Kart-same as above.
    Splatoon-actually decent.
    Xenoblade-censored, dumbed down writting, removed features.
    Bayonetta-actually decent

    So half of those games entirely ignore the adult market by omitting key features or enforcing censorship.

  • WB1c_Marathon

    Pretty much what I was going for. Neat system killed off by incompetence.

  • Smug

    It’s more the fact about not treating your adult customers like oversensitive womanchildren, that’s what he meant.
    Nevermind, the console didnt have much to offer besides a very few titles

  • TheMaverickGamer

    Besides the Virtual Boy, this is by and far Nintendo’s worst console, in my opinion. The software overall leaves a lot to be desired with barely any third-party support, the network is still terrible, the gamepad is gimmicky with horrible battery life, and its tech is unimpressive. Nintendo better be prepared to wow with the NX because if it flops, I don’t want to live in a world without Nintendo making consoles. I may not be a fan of the way Nintendo does things nowadays, but less competition for Sony and Microsoft is a bad thing.

    I do realize that Nintendo has enough money to launch failing consoles several times over, but the question is if they really want to keep churning out failures or just shift the company to more lucrative ventures. This is a company that started out making hanafuda cards. They’ve evolved before and can do so again.

  • Dom The Elegy

    The Wii U is Nintendo’s biggest failure since the Virtual Boy. Hopefully they’ll finally learn something based on that.

  • scemar

    Some things are not really optional.
    The only option is to try again until it comes out right.

  • Smug

    Nintendo games have been quite meh in terms of quality lately.

    Not to mention the whole thing about Amiboo

  • scemar

    They’ve non deliberately dropped hints for the NX release date which should put it at a late 2016-early 2017 zone.
    This seems consistent with that.

    We will know for sure after E3.

  • dogmentation

    I’m going to laugh and laugh when the NX is just an android phone with a custom bootrom, so Big N can milk freemium from kids till the end of days.

  • NuclearCherries

    Well, It was a disappointment for everyone involved.It will be remembered as the “Bayonetta and Wonderful 101 machine”.
    I can see them eventually pulling out of the home console market and focusing on the handheld market, since that’s where they make the most money.

    Still, they’ll get no sympathy from me. Especially considering NoA’s shenanigans.

  • WB1c_Marathon

    What terrifies me about them going full handheld, is that we probably won’t have Sony in there by then. I shudder to think of all those beautiful handheld weeb games that will get butchered, especially if Nintendo keeps region locking.

  • scemar

    I’m betting it won’t be, and instead they’ll port WiiU games.

  • deadeye

    If they’re not published by Nintendo, it won’t be a problem.

    The region locking is the main issue.

  • NuclearCherries

    A terrifying future to be sure.
    I really hope Sony decides to make another portable. They have the weeb market locked down. They just need to advertise it as such.

  • InkBrush

    The only damn thing I want the NX to have is no motion control or gimmick bullshit.

  • WB1c_Marathon

    They really do. Hell I have own twice as many games for my Vita I got a year and a half ago, than I do for the 3DS I bought on release day.

  • Captain Vidya

    If they region lock it, I’m just not going to buy it. It’s that simple. The Game Boy and DS lines weren’t region locked, so the fact that the 3DS is was baffling to me. That and the Wii U is still region locked while the Xbone, PSP, PS3, Vita and PS4 aren’t.

  • deadeye

    Although a possibly better timeline would be just those games go to PC. That’s already kinda starting to happen anyways.

  • Kiryu

    As sad as it makes me but i think the Vita will be Sony’s last portable so i enjoy it as long as it’s supported.

  • Galbador

    This is it for Nintendo. Either the NX is a success or will go down like the Wii U. This is now the second console I bought from Nintendo, which got axed over a short period of time (the first one was the Gamecube). It just makes me mad how unprofessional this is and reminds me somehow to the point, where Sony gave up on the PS3 and brought out the PS4, while the PS3 powers were not even fully used.

    Because of things like that, people will ignore new consoles or companies and possibly go to the PC to get their games.

  • scemar

    With the price of the components going down and all it shouldn’t be that hard to develop the hardware.

    The rest of the costs would be in production and other stuff like marketing.

    If they wanted they could easily make another portable, it wouldn’t be a big hit, no matter how hard they tried, but they could easily put low effort into it and it would still sell with a similar audience to the one that embraced the Vita’s niche.
    Make it non region locked, low marketing costs and let the people come to it on their own and the games will follow.

  • Smug

    The problem is that most of those games are made for a handheld in mind.
    Like for instance I dont see much the point of porting Shinovi versus on PC and not Estival Versus (PS4 version) instead

  • Kiryu

    The Vita clearly is the queen of otaku games and that’s why i love it.My 3DS is dead,nothing in sight while my Vita collection keeps growing.

  • Immahnoob

    You missed his point.

  • Josh

    I don’t get why people dislike the Wii U. I’m quite happy with mine.

  • Immahnoob

    I fully agree. I won’t be buying anything for my 3DS or buy any type of consoles until Nintendo finally decides to whom they’re trying to cater.

    Most gamers are young adults to middle aged, so I don’t see why they’re trying to focus only on children when that’s basically the smaller demographic.

    It’s almost as if they don’t know their games are mostly bought by adults.

  • Kiryu

    Happens alot with Nintoddlers.

  • Immahnoob

    Yeah, they enjoy being treated like children.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

    The Virtual Boy was set for failure, so that one was more or less… let’s say, understandable. But the Wii U? While it wasn’t set to be #1 it wasn’t set for being this failure either. Nintendo really fucked up this just like Sony fucked up with the PSV~.

  • Smug

    I have some good titles of my jap n3DS (Rhythm Tengoku the Best, Toshi Toshin, Ex Troopers, Kenka Bacho, Stella Glow, Bravely Default/Second, OP UC, Rune Factory 4) but yeah a good chunk of its library is either only available there or as a version without censorship/shit translations. So if you own a western 3DS, you’re screwed unless you install the CFW.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

    Bad press mostly. Though the sheer lack of direction in its initial years didn’t help the image and the terrible decisions last year where games got butchered to a lesser or greater degree did leave a bad taste in people’s mouths~.

  • WB1c_Marathon

    The thing is, even more companies seem to be hoping on the cenorshit train, even when they don’t they butcher the writing. The only two companies I can think that are decent, are IFI and Xseed. IFI isn’t even that great, the best thing about them is they seem to listen to feedback.

  • Kiryu

    Not to mention the 3DS is a cheaply build piece of shit.My stick recently broke off while i was playing Project X Zone 2.First time this happened to me,i always take good care of my gaming material.

  • deadeye

    Nintendo needs 3rd party support. Them being the only suppliers of games is just not a good thing. It limits them way too much.

    If Sony was the only one making games for the Vita or PS4, those consoles would be awful. Same with MS and the Xbone.

    Nintendo focusing on children is perfectly fine. I’d say when it comes to games for kids, they’re really good at making them accessible to them but still enjoyable and memorable. They’re not licensed shovelware trash that most kids will grow up and think “boy, that game was pretty shit.”. Kids may be a smaller demographic, but they deserve games too.

    They need other developers that focus on other audiences though. And possibly diversifying their own development teams and going out of their comfort zone a bit.

  • scemar

    They don’t need to choose one vs the other.

    In most cases they already serve kids well, they always have.
    But it’s the adult market that’s being ignored and in fact they’ve gotten worse at it now than before.

    What does the adult market need?

    Simple things. If a game is multiplayer, then give it proper online, with all the features other games have.

    If it’s single player then give it a difficulty setting so people who have played the same game over 10 years can find some mild level of amusement out of doing it again (I’m looking at you, zelda, pokemon, etc)

  • DizzyGear

    Hardwarewise it was actually a piece of a shit compared to the Playstation since they bolted on the 3D capabilities at the last minute making it a nightmare to code for.

    It had some good games though. Sadly allot of them came too late or stayed in Japan.

    Disclaimer: i had a Saturn. Stayed loyal to Sega untill RE2 came out for the PSone.

  • Narmy

    Did the Wii U sell as much as the Dreamcast yet? I think it might be even more of a failure than the Vita.

  • Kiryu

    Nintendo cares more about building a theme park then their adult audience,Nintendo is dead.

  • DizzyGear

    Obligatory ‘And nothing of value was lost.’

  • Audie Bakerson

    Sanshiro only protects the NTSC-J Saturn. I’m only bashing the NTSC-U one.

  • Smug

    Yeah the 3DS isnt what I call a quality build, especially compared to Sony handhelds.

    I still consider the PSP as the best handheld, though the CFW obviously helped at being an excellent alternative to the awful UMDs.

  • DizzyGear

    Its almost too weird to be real. Than again so was the Wiimote when it was revealed.

  • Bitterbear

    Well, according to SJWs, the Japanese are pedos so it’s only natural that Nintendo only wants children to touch their Wii-Wiis.

  • scemar

    I personally dislike it because it can’t stream out of the box unlike all the other consoles, so I can’t record my own gameplay unless I payed $150 for extra hardware modifications.
    The online in the games I play is terrible, laggy, disconnection errors and no ranks or leaderbords or MMR.
    And when my gamepad broke I had to buy another one, for $100, only to use the system. Even though I don’t use the gamepad to play at all, even though I didn’t want it, without the gamepad the system’s settings and UI cannot be navigated by design, due to how Nintendo made it work. An on screen keyboard option would have solved the issue with a patch but they just didn’t care.

    So even though it is the console I play the most it is the console that treats me as a customer the worst as well.

  • Kiryu

    Nintendo made so many mistakes it’s not even funny.
    Named the console Wii U;stupid decision since alot of casuals thought it was an accessory for the Wii.
    Forced their gamepad on gamers and didnt sell them separately.
    Region lock.
    Thirds stayed far away because of the limited hardware.
    Too expensive and still havent reduced the price.
    And the icing on the cake they let their western branch being run by a bunch of sjw’s/anti gamers who butchered japanese games.

  • Teutates

    hmm :/ i really like my wii u as gaming console… lets hope we get some clear news from nintendo soon.

  • Rumble Red

    I don’t regret buying a Wii U. It’s had enough quality games (Bayonetta 2, W101, Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong) that I feel like I got an okay return on my investment. Barely.

    Between Amiibo and this recent rash of censorship, though, I’m sure as hell not gonna be in a hurry to buy any new hardware from Nintendo. I always wait at least a year to buy any console anyway, but it’s gonna take a miracle of a turnaround for me to ever think of spending money on an NX.

  • Immahnoob

    I’m talking mainly when they bring games in the west, should have been clear.

  • http://varms.net Gillman

    I don’t know if I can seethe in anger hard enough, but I sure as fuck am going to try.

  • Uncle Slick

    Still more titles than PS4.

  • Uncle Slick

    You can blame the SJW/Feminist filled America for the censoring.

  • Kiryu

    Amen to that man,PSP is my favorite aswell.

  • scemar

    I blame Nintendo for allowing it.

  • InkBrush

    Quit trying to still suck off Nintendo.

  • Kiryu

    Bingo,it’s the variety of games on a console that make it a success,that’s why the PS4 leads by a big gap.

  • Kiryu

    On what alternate universe??

  • daggot △

    Bayo 2 and W 101 were great games but I don’t think I’ll jump in on nintendo hardware until they can put out more exclusives. It’s my fault entirely for purchasing one when FFV and Xenoblade X were on the horizon because I couldn’t even imagine them censoring them back then.

    You gotta be a smarter consumer these days I guess.

  • Kiryu

    Sold more then the Dreamcast but only because it was longer supported so actually compared in the same time sold worse then the Dreamcast.

  • Mr Silvio

    Let’s face it, this console generation is going to be the weakest in decades.

  • Urobolus

    Good riddance.

  • tccboss

    Rip wiiu, you were such a nice splatoon player. ;__;7

  • sanic

    Maybe I’ll try to beat all my wiiU games over the summer and trade it all in, and then buy an xbox 1 to complete my cycle of fucking up.

  • Kiryu

    Are you a collector?Collector of fuck ups?

  • Jumanji Joe

    I’m done with Nintendo. If they want only children and sjws than they can have them.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

    Remember when they said it wouldn’t replace the WiiU?

  • TheCynicalReaper

    So with Spybox One doing horrible and the Wii U being shut down, I guess Sony has the biggest game in console land.

    That’s not good. I hope something else rises to fight back because the last thing we want is not only “consolization” but to have games essentially enthrall to a Playstation monopoly.

    The market only thrives in competition…

  • sanic

    Well not to brag but I did own a kinect.

  • Ian Charles

    Disgusting image used in this article, very unprofessional. Not surprised to see that Brandon wrote it.

    Also disgusting comments too.

  • Kiryu

    Lol,ok then.Well i guess every gamer has atleast fucked up once.

  • Ian Charles

    Bitch to program for? WTF are you on. The PS3 was a bitch to program for. The Wii/Wii U aren’t.

  • Ian Charles

    So mature.

  • Jumanji Joe

    I know right! HOW FUCKING DARE people have different opinions!!!! BRB calling the fbi

  • Kiryu

    Children and sjws=$$$

  • Kiryu

    Neogaf might be your alley for special snowflakes like you.

  • https://meinoskaen.wordpress.com/ Meinos Kaen

    Yes. They are. They were both technologically inferior to the competition AND they both were based on a technology that was completely different than anything else, be it pc or console. Which is why nintendo home consoles were most of the time left out of multiplatform releases: because to release a game on it you’d have to basically make it again from the ground up AND have it end up being inferior because the console is not as powerful as its competitors, let alone a pc.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

    Are you European?

  • Kiryu

    ..

  • Kiryu

    A monopoly is never a good thing for the customers.

  • 萌えゲー

    It’s because NoA keeps treating games like alcohol. “If we censor, we can protect the children, just like requiring a license will help the underaged not drink” kind of bs.

  • blackice85

    Which becomes even more silly if you start to think about it. Protect from what? Digital boobies? Simulated violence?

  • 2501

    By removed features you mean a breast slider, and one line of dialogue referencing religion. Damn, now l will never experience my open world mecha JRPG game the same way ever again.

  • Uncle Slick

    I’d be better off.

  • Uncle Slick

    All of them.

    Every game worth something on the PS4 (save for Bloodborne) is also on the PC.

    To play Nintendo games, you need their system.

  • Uncle Slick

    But they taste better than the bad PC called PS4.

  • 萌えゲー

    苦しい~?

  • Uncle Slick

    It’s either they allow it, and receive backlash.

    Or they don’t, and get made fun of for it.

  • Stilzkin

    I don’t know, Link not talking and story are Zelda’s least problems

  • Kiryu

    Every game worth something on PS4 is also on PC?Bullshit!Tastes are subjective and since i don’t care for Nintendo games i could also answer you their games arent worth much.See how that goes?

  • 萌えゲー

    But the Vita remains because of the plethora of titles it offers for the adult buying audience. Of course the West f*cks up plenty in those releases as well, but that’s an easy fix these days. The Wii-U couldn’t quite make its debut because of the cancer that is this hipster, SJW, feminist generation. What the Vita has could have saved it.

  • 2501

    That sucks, l know the WII-U has been out for a while but l think it managed to get a decent library of games this past year, oh well at least the new Star Fox is on the horizon.

  • Smug

    “Every game worth something on the PS4 (save for Bloodborne) is also on the PC.”

    PCfags everyone

    >”it’s only worth playing if it’s on MY platform”

  • Uncle Slick

    Name one game (that’s in America) that is NOT on PC and for the PS4 that justifies buying it.

    Try.

  • Uncle Slick

    Name a PS4 exclusive worth getting the console for.

  • Kiryu

    3 new Vita games arrive this week from play asia.
    Honestly i don’t miss Western AAA games on it,not one bit.

  • tccboss

    Nuh uh, you’re disgusting!

  • tccboss

    They bring in sjws to get the kiddies just look at Alison.

  • Smug

    Estival Versus
    Yakuza 0, Isshin and Kiwami (assuming you dont own the jap versions on PS3) and 6
    Gravity Daze 2
    Fairy Fancer F
    Dead or Alive Xtreme 3
    Majo to Hyakkihei Revival
    And a bunch of games that are multiplat with the Vita in case you prefer playing on the big screen.

  • NuclearKangaroo

    would you consider PC competition?

  • Uncle Ocelot

    If they’re halting production this year, then the NX is definitely a 2016 release. I just can’t see Nintendo, or any console manufacturer, going a year without a home console.

  • Kiryu

    Persona 5,Ni no kuni 2,Last Guardian,Guilty Gear,Star Ocean 5,Yakuza Zero,DOAX3….i could go on and on.The Wii U has nothing if you don’t care for Ninti games while the PS4 still has more then enough if you don’t like GT,Killzone,GOW and co.

  • 萌えゲー

    The Vita never needed triple A’s to survive, hence why it is so glorious now~

  • Nagato

    -Senran Kagura won’t stop coming to PC after Shinovi Versus
    -Going by how the Yakuza announcements were handled last year, they don’t seem to be full exclusives
    -GD/GR series has amazing artwork, but the games don’t live up to much of anything at all – as tends to be typical of Sony’s first party
    -FFF Vanilla is already on Steam, Advent Dark Force will inevitably follow
    -DoAX3 we probably won’t see on PC, year, or any platform in the West
    -Hundred Knight Revival seems likely to hit PC given NISA’s new course, and of all the games they have to offer it’s a rather PC-minded one gameplay-wise to begin with

    As far as Vita-shared games go:
    -Exist Archive and Grand Kingdom seem set to end up on PC, looking at how Spike Chunsoft is rapidly embracing the platform
    -Vanillaware stuff is likely to end up on PC after they said they were “exploring a solution” to bring their games there last year
    -Ys has been a known entity on Steam for a couple of years now, isn’t going away

    Honestly the only games that might stay exclusive to Playstation platforms are Cyber Sleuth and maybe the upcoming Summon Night 6, which seems to be more due Bandai Namco being completely inconsistent than anything else.

  • Jumanji Joe

    SJWS don’t buy games. They’re the literal vocal minority. Remember when Anita advertised this indie game and the sales hardly increased?

  • Jumanji Joe

    But kids and sjws don’t go together. I have no idea what you’re getting at.

  • Uncle Ocelot

    The Gamecube had a full 5-6 year life though? And the PS3 was hardly given up on, it took 7 years until the PS4 came out.

  • Kiryu

    Imagine babies seeing their moms boobs while breastfeeding;traumatized for life.

  • Smug

    “Muh PC platform muh PC platform”
    “Those games arent worth shit if it doesnt come to MY platform”
    “Oh boy I’m going to love those localizations handled by NISA”

    You PCfags/Steamcucks are such a fucking joke

  • Kiryu

    Was sarcasm bro,i know we are the ones with purchase power not children and sjws.To get to the amount each of a single one here spend in a year on games you would need alot of sjw’s and kids.

  • Jumanji Joe

    Fair enough. It’s really hard to pick up on sarcasm in text form.

  • Nagato

    You seem to be putting words into a PC gamer’s mouth again, as you seem so fond of doing lately~

    Edit: Also, please do listen to Para-kun already and stop editting your posts so much.

  • Galbador

    I have no feeling for time anymore.

  • Kiryu

    No problem,probably also comes from the fact you don’t know me here so it’s always hard to tell.

  • Smug

    Because you guys are actually extremely anal when the PC platform (or Steam) is being criticized (mind you every consumerist fanboy no matter the platform would too, but your kind are a lot more sensible about it), so no need for the passive-aggressive replies.

  • Malcolm_Ecks

    Its accurate. Name another video game website that doesn’t use lighthearted jabs in photos or headlines. Just mad because its likely your favourite company this time.

  • Uncle Ocelot

    Fair enough.

  • Kiryu

    A friend of mine regrets having bought the Vita because he believed the PS3 in your pocket thing,he feels betrayed by Sony.He’s not a fan of Japanese games.I just answered him that AAA’s would never succeed on a handheld,jap games do.Any gamer with a bit of experience would know that.

  • SA-X

    Sure, the ports Nagato lists are purely hypothetical…

  • Malcolm_Ecks

    This isn’t directed towards you in any negative way, this is more for those who come by reading this.

    Its not like the monopoly I the fault of Sony here. They didn’t tell the Xbox team that having the Kinect involved, always online, inability to share games, and exclusives that hit PC super quick was a good idea.

    They didn’t tell Nintendo to burn damn near all of their relationships with 3rd party publishers on the Wii was a good idea. Or having another gimmick peripheral, artificially rare Amiibos, or lack of Nintendo themselves making flagship games.

    When the best New Zelda game is freaking Hyrule Warriors too….
    The competition has noone to blame but themselves, and Sony just won by virtue of not being the other guys. The E3 is gonna be hilarious.

  • Malcolm_Ecks

    So Wii-U’s Zelda game is for sure gonna be an NX exclusive.

  • scemar

    Oh I don’t disagree, but I’m just saying those are limitations that hold the franchise back in general as well. There’s more, like the bad controls and overall linearity of it all but the fact that story presentation is so limited does lessen the ways they can present a story.
    It’s very hard to write a story with an entirely silent protagonist, it’s hard to make a cool scene cool and clearly understood when the nuances of dialogue are entirely lost to text, etc.

    For instance there’s people who had no idea who the skeleton wolf guy in twilight princess is, they didn’t know it was the previous Link passing on the torch to a new Link because the guy never talks, so he lacks any characterization to identify him through.
    Because the dialogue lacked enough impact to properly convey the huge impact of the scenes between those two.

    A real shame for what could be.

  • Smug

    >Being that fucking autismal mad over edits
    No wonder why you’re a friend of that other autist

  • iam16bits

    I’m calling bullshit.

  • scemar

    The WiiU most definitely is, due to its unique architecture. It is both weaker and different from the rest.

    Also the odd hardware must be an extra difficulty layer.
    And on top of it all, the weaker online features mean they can’t easily port the same multiplayer experience.

  • scemar

    DOAX3 needs to come to PC come on .
    Pleeeeasssseee

  • scemar

    Character customization options, overall many lines of dialogue and symbolisms were changed.
    Many outfits removed.

    Look I am not going to argue about the gravity of those changes because that is subjective.

    But the fact is that merely doing those changes does qualify as not treating the audience as adults, which was the subject at hand.

    They could have just not done those changes, simple.
    But t hey chose to do them.

  • Nagato

    Kek, my sides are in orbit after these last few posts

    Kind of a shame you didn’t come up with something more creative than the “fuckbuddy” thing a while ago, though…

  • scemar

    Not doing it would only get them the same backlash they got anyway despite doing it.

    But as a bonus they damaged the game and also got bonus backlash for it.

    One option is win- lose and the other option is lose-lose-lose.

    They chose poorly.

  • DizzyGear

    Hundred Knight was mediocre at best on PS3 when it wasnt crashing. I doubt the updated PS4 version is gonna make it a system seller.

  • Kiryu

    No problem,nothing about your post was negative.

    The Xbox team learned from their mistake from their catastrophic E3 and listened to the gamers.
    Dropped mandatory online,dropped Kinect,dropped the price.By then it was too late because the damage was done but they showed they listen to feedback.

    Nintendo were told to make the pad optional and they said no just like to any fan feedback afterwards.

    Sony actually of all the 3 cares the most about gamers,it’s thanks to them that we get the Yakuza series again here since Sega thinks it’s not profitable enough.

  • DizzyGear

    I love how non of the games you listed are out yet in the west.

  • Smug

    >not playing only jap versions of games in all the platforms
    Too bad gaijin :^)

  • Kiryu

    I say it will be like Twilight Princess,cross plattform.

  • DizzyGear

    Of all the games he listed only Yakuza 0 is out in the Japan. For all we know Persona 5 will end up being a massive turd.
    Also Last Gardian is the modern day Duke Nuke’em Forever and we all know how that game ended up

  • Smug

    Not arguing with that, though my point still stands you have to be quite crazy to still believe in localizations save from a very little amount of companies.

    I certainly dont want a Persona game with Ashley Burch eventually voicing the female characters for instance

  • Kiryu

    Only listed the games i like,not gona list Bloodborne since i don’t care.

  • Smug

    It was alright in my opinion, though I got a jap copy in order to avoid the butchered localization.

  • Godmars

    Wonder if the NX will be BC with Wii and WiiU titles…

  • Nin

    Yeah. Almost all worthwhile games on XBox One and Playstation 4 are on PC or on Vita for the latter. The Wii U has the most exclusives but near 0 third party support.

    Mobiles aren’t so bad off at least. The Vita is otaku heaven (albiet worthless for anyone else) while the 3DS’s only real problem is Nintendo’s localization team.

  • Kiryu

    For anyone still thinking they learn from their mistakes i’m just gona leave this here;

    http://www.vg247.com/2015/01/22/nintendo-bosses-do-not-really-understand-modern-gaming-says-former-executive/

  • BurgerUnit

    Yeah I am sure Xenoblade is a good game but what they did was unnecessary and actually kind of embarrassing when you think about it.

    And at the end of the day, I don’t care how good a meal is – if I find out the cook put even a smidgeon of dirt in it, Im not eating it. Everyone has their own threshold on what they will allow however…

  • Volrath

    So, the same year we are getting Legend of Zelda, and StarFox, they’re shutting down production of the console those first party games are on?

    That raises a lot of questions about the longevity of support for those titles.

  • Gabriel Ibisch

    The theme park isn’t coming until at least 2020 with the Tokyo Olympics. So no.

  • Gabriel Ibisch

    E3 is always interesting…

    But, I agree, with Nintendo entering a new console, Microsoft needing to step up its game, and Sony needing to keep its momentum strong, this’ll be one to watch closely.

  • Thanatos2k

    Wow, that NX better be the best console of all time. Except somehow I suspect it won’t be.

  • Thanatos2k

    Bloodborne.

    That was easy.

  • Thanatos2k

    http://www.gamespot.com/articles/wii-u-sales-slow-to-a-crawl-as-nintendo-posts-457-million-loss/1100-6419475

    As it turns out, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

    Not even kids spending their parent’s money can save them anymore. If anything, now they’re just buying Amiibos and not games.

  • Thanatos2k

    Given all the rumors point to it being some kind of mobile hybrid, it’s going to be trash.

  • Gabriel Ibisch

    We’ll see….

  • Thanatos2k

    Problem is, if it’s going to be backwards compatible, it has to come with a Gamepad. If it comes with a Gamepad, people aren’t going to buy it (like they didn’t buy the Wii U) and it’ll bump the price up a lot.

    They’re in a Kinect situation, of their own making.

  • Thanatos2k

    The best ages of gaming (PS1/PS2) era were marked by the least amount of platform competition.

    A Sony monopoly would really be nothing but good for us, because there’s still PC.

  • Thanatos2k

    Untrue. Platform competition usually does nothing but hurt consumers, as the 3 console marketplace has hurt gaming.

    If competition is always good, tell me, how did HD-DVD vs Blu Ray help consumers?

  • Thanatos2k

    Tablet controller. Shitty online. Laughable internal storage. Pathetic digital distribution systems.

  • Thanatos2k

    Hahahaha you think Zelda is coming this year and not whenever the NX release date is.

  • Thanatos2k

    Iwata said it. He was very clearly lying. Please understand.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

    Blaming SJWs for Nintendo’s decision is simply unfair. It’s Nintendo’s call to choose for their audience, it’s what they’ve done since the Wii with localizations. The fault is solely’s Nintendo, they promised a console for mature audiences and a few months into launch they didn’t have a clue of which direction to go into~.

  • Mike Campbell

    at least the ps4 isn’t dead console like the modern day saturn (aka the wii u)

  • Kiryu

    ..

  • Kiryu

    So it’s better for you to have 1 big company that dominates the market,no competition and dictating their rules and pricing?How is more choice worse for the consumer,you tell me?

  • Uncle Slick

    If you saw in my other post, I said THAT ISN’T BLOODBORNE.

    I forgot to write that in this one too.

    Try again.

  • Uncle Slick

    Lots of options if you only play rpg/fighting games.

  • Thanatos2k

    Competition amongst platforms splits the audience, increasing risk for developers.

    More choice is not always better.

  • Uncle Slick

    How many Japanese only games did you list there? I said IN AMERICA.

    I know Shinovi versus is here, but not Estival.

  • 萌えゲー

    ~~~~~Don’t copy my squiggly~~~~
    And it’s NoA that decided to remove the boob sliding feature from Xenoblade, not the Japanese branch. If it was truly Nintendo as whole that wanted it, the feature would be removed from all regions. The same goes for FE, SMT × FE, and so on.
  • Thanatos2k
    Why would you exclude the system selling game?
  • Kiryu
    Audience is always split no matter where you go,i don’t see that as a bad thing.We don’t have the same tastes afterall,thankfully.About devs and risks i just tell you it’s due to the own stupidity/greed of publishers.Keep your dev costs reasonable and it’s fine.Just because a game cost more money to produce doesnt make it better.When i see how much Destiny cost i just shake my head.
  • Smug
    >still havent learned 日本語
    Step it up pleb
  • Thanatos2k
    As I’ve said elsewhere, the best eras of gaming (PS1/PS2) were marked by the least platform competition and lowest publisher risk.
    When you have to make your game multiplatform, you can’t optimize for one and your dev costs go up.
  • Kiryu
    Look at AAA companies and see how they are run and there you have a point.Look at small publishers and while they are not getting rich,they are still around and their games still quality;see Falcom.Not can optimize is a lazy excuse.
  • Kiryu
    Options the Wii U doesnt have.Not everyone likes Nintendo games so come of your high horse thinking they are the best because the Wii U production will be stopped,for a good reason,it flopped.
    Nintendo hasnt been brilliant/creative in years and with each gen their sales drop.
  • Fenrir007
    >Hundred Knight Revival
    Hopefully it wont overheat my PC.
  • Ace
    Can’t believe I missed this news. And it will only get worse since Iwata (one of the most powerful voices in Nintendo) is gone.
  • NukeA6
    Well NX supposedly plays Wii-U and 3DS games so I’m fine with this. It better be cheap though because the censorship and bad decisions are putting them behind their competitors.
  • Mr0303
    Good point. It is one of the most contested features of the Wii U. Perhaps they can just port the games that only require a normal controller, but that is just speculation on my part.
  • Malcolm_Ecks
    Here Here. Now maybe we can get Platinum games to make great games for everyone instead of Nintendo. Their licensed stuff Legena of Korra game was meh, and while Transformers Devestation was good, the levels were too small and too repetitive to be a full priced game. After they’re done with StarFox I want more original IPs. MS can keep giving my PC their exclusives for all I care.
  • Malcolm_Ecks
    Its a report, not a rumor so….
  • Mr0303
    PC gaming isn’t really a direct competition. It is a whole different market that focuses on digital. We need more variety. Perhaps SEGA can rise from the ashes?
  • Malcolm_Ecks
    I guess you haven’t heard about the multiple articles by Gawker and Salon defending pedos.
  • Mr0303
    I hope that too, but given Vita’s failure and Sony’s new focus on VR I doubt we’ll see another handheld from them.
    That being said I think the Vita can last for quite some time, given that the weeb games are unlikely to push the system.
  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez
    Your point? Nobody’s forcing NoA’s arm, and NoA is still a part of Nintendo as a whole. There’re no SJWs excuses. Nintendo of America made bad choices, their fault. Nobody else’s just like Tecmo / Koei made the stupid choice of leaving DoAX3 in Japan / Asia~.
  • Guin
    I still don’t buy the thought of them cutting support when consoles like PS3 kept on trucking for 10 years and eventually recovered. Is Nintendo really that eager to pull the plug on the Wii-U?
  • Guin
    >A Sony monopoly would really be nothing but good for us
    You’re killing me.
  • Guin
    No, it was the Famicom age because Nintendo rose from the ashes after becoming the clear winner when all those throwaway companies kept pushing shovelware that led to the Vidya crash of the 80’s. And then Sega came along to test their mettle and you should know the rest.
  • Guin
    It saddens me that the only platform that will come out of this gen entirely unscathed are mobile phones.
  • Guin
    >DOAX3 PC
    >Will be a nicer looking Sexy Beach
    It’s such a good idea that it will never happen.
  • PenguinPlayer
    So, how does these things work? Should I be worried about finding a new power block for my Wii U if mine breaks or if I won’t be able to buy a Pro Controller anymore BEFORE the NX is even released? Because that would be some giant bullshit.
    Also, what happened to “We will support the Wii U for a while even after the NX releases?” statements?
  • Yabloko Molloco San
    Buuuurn buuurn you disney wannabe pieces of shit.
  • Uncle Slick
    Never once have I said they’re the best. I have a Wii U and I barely play it.
    I’m only saying they’re not the worst.
    Nintendo has, and always will have the most memorable characters.
    People will always love and recognize Mario.
    Nathan Drake? Think I went to school with a Nathan Drake.
    Master Chief? Isn’t that a cooking show?
    Want to talk about sales drops? Talk about the PS Vita.
    That thing is a failure compared to the 3DS, which is my go to handheld.
    Let’s not forgot that the Wii was EXTREMELY successful. The Wii U just didn’t click.
  • Uncle Slick
    It’s really not about knowing languages.
    I know enough Japanese to play most games.
    I meant games that are made and sold in the US. Point being that Japan always has the games we want.
    “Step it up pleb”
    Please return to 4chan.
  • Uncle Slick
    Because it’s the only good game on the system. My point is that there aren’t enough games to justify buying it.
    Bloodborne is great, but not worth a whole console.
  • Uncle Slick
    Know what system is dead though?
    The PS Vita.
  • 萌えゲー
    No one is forcing them, they are making the calls themselves. NoA doesn’t want icky adults on there consoles, just snot nosed brats that play COD and GTA anyway and thier man children fanboys. Tecmo got scared of SJW bs, retracted liscensing, and now are witnessing explosive popularity on the title through imports. This game would be butchered to high hell if the western branch got it’s hands on it. As for Nintendo, you can only make so many “bad choices” until your agenda slips out~
  • JohnnyCageFan2
    At the risk of pissing off fanboys, I’ll say it, the NX is probably gonna be called the ‘Nintendo Wii U2′ (signed/sued by Bono), just as the 3DS’ successor will be called the ‘Nintendo 3DS2’ which will be launched sided-by-side with the ‘Nintendo 3DS2XL’. Oh, I mustn’t forget the 2DS2.
    Anyway, fuck Nintendo with their naming conventions and console dropping ways.
  • JohnnyCageFan2
    I thought everyone loved Zelda…
  • Neojames82
    It is kinda ironic that Nintendo of America is wanting to make their consoles more kid friendly. Yet the future generations of kids will not most likely be interested in Nintendo or consoles in general. They will be more interested in mobile gaming.
  • No_Good_Names_Ever
    I’m guessing that excludes Britain, Sweden, Germany, and France?
  • JohnnyCageFan2
    Didn’t they also fuck over Fatal Frame by giving Zelda and Metroid costumes in lieu of the nicer… original ones?
  • ThatOneGuy
    I think Nintendo needs to learn how to advertise their systems. I remember seeing a bunch of Wii commercials years ago all the time even way after it launched, but I hardly saw any Wii U commercials since it’s release compared to the PS4 and XBONE advertisement.
    And also fix the deal with region lock, but that will probably never happen.
  • Kakaku
  • Kakaku
    Nintendo is still producing Wii U’s though you guys are still welcome to bitch about about the company.
    http://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-denies-report-of-wii-u-ceasing-production-this-year/
  • Ol’ Jesus
    I personally couldn’t give a damn. Throughout the Wii U’s short lifespan there have been 2 (two) entire games I ever wanted to actually play.
    Both of those are Platinum Games titles.
    I dream of the day the CEMU Wii U emulator is perfected.
  • Ol’ Jesus
    Hey just wanna add that Nintendo are, according to Deadtaku and Engadget, denying all claims of Wii U halting production.
    http://www.engadget.com/2016/03/22/hyper-light-drifter-is-set-to-launch-at-the-end-of-the-month/
  • Richard Miller
    Well the Wii U is the worse performing console in recent memory. It reminds me of the dreamcast.
  • TheCynicalReaper
    If game developers started returning to the PC with fervor then I would agree, but do note that at that time development for PC was still a decent market (likely because gaming had yet to become so Hollywood and “piracy” had yet to become easily accessible) and Nintendo was still around making sales for the N64.
    With the advent of DRM and the insane sales of the Wii attracting the common non-gamer crowds we got less focus on PC and more focus on consoles, which led to the consolization we see today, as I figure it.
    Maybe if Sony had a monopoly on consoles but not dev studios, then perhaps we could get even major devs actually caring for PC due to the sheer tyrannical ego Sony would inevitably exude with that dominance.
    Then again, I speak as an American. We’re talking mainly Japanese games and devs here, and the Jap game industry’s biggest issue isn’t consoles but pachinko and mobile phone app games.
  • TheCynicalReaper
    TL;DR Monopolies are never good, mate, but if there were a giant shift like that to occur then maybe it would shake up even the Japanese gaming industry (and thus the industry at large) just enough to get something new to arise, and hopefully, inevitably, on PC, since it’s the easiest to develop for.
  • Smug
    It would delete important files on your system, making it unusable :^)
    On a related note, I remember that Rayman 2 on PC would inflict serious damage on your computer if you tried to modify files, but I dunno if the problem is still present on recent releases.
  • SiliconNooB
    I am done with Nintendo. Even when they have a good game to release, and even when they actually decide to release that good game instead of leaving it in Japan, even then they still find a way to ruin it through memes and obnoxiously infantalising censorship!
    No thanks. I’m getting off this shit ride!
  • Stilzkin
    Knowing that it’s actually OoT Link makes that scene so much more heart warming
  • Patrick England (Shadoan)
    Wii U is still in production, Nintendo Announced they are still producing Wii U’s. Kind of sad though, It’s still a fun gaming console, although it’s lacking in it’s library any good games…. Well, good games in the name that use all of the Wii U’s features or even some.
    Even then, the library is lacking because noone is hoping on board to develop for it, no BIG 3rd parties either. PS4 seems to be the only console hogging all the 3rd parties. Another bit that kinda annoys me is when Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft demand money for a license to produce games for their console? It’s understandable in order to do business, and further understandable to have those who buy the license also purchase the SDK to develop for it; but the prices they demand a little high in the undertaking that not many 3rd parties or even Indie developers can afford. Those parties and the indie community have to develop under the banner of developers and publishers who HAVE access to both of these and take a chunk of money going to the parties and the indie community.
    While that’s understandable to borrow a publishers name and what not, the price demand for the SDK’s and licenses are too damn high! I would include the party of why is the rent too damn high, but I can’t include images into these discuss posts. The only other Console indies developers could develop under without a license was Ouya, and that thing is shot to hell with rumors, missing consoles and…. Other shit… If there is another indie group making a game console, please don’t fuck up like ouya did, please…
  • Chaf
    Since when and on what Nintendo console “adult gamers” were rejected?
  • Feniks
    Yeah I have never seen a kid playing on a 3DS. In my country children all have smartphones now.
  • BurgerUnit
    Never said rejected. I’m sure they tolerate it, but don’t care if we stay or leave. How else am I to interpret some of their decisions lately?
    (Spoiler alert: Not really interested in having this conversation with someone that can’t form a complete sentence. Fortunately for you, you don’t need to look too far to find examples of what I’m talking about.)
  • Feniks
    Yeah the wiiU only has Nintendo games. The PS4 has more games come out every month than the wiiU gets in a year.
    Why would someone who doesn’t care about Mario or Zelda buy a Nintendo console? They are limiting themselves to only hardcore Nintendo fans.
  • Feniks
    Why buy a Nintendo console if you can buy a Playstation? The PS4 will be supported for ten years, have every 3rd party title and support online.
    The wiiU caters to Nintendo fans, turns out there are not enough of those.
  • Feniks
    That is factually wrong. How many games does the wiiU get every month these days?
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_4_games
  • Barmont
    I gave up on Nintendo. Had a 3DS XL, but with so many bad decisions (amiibo DLC, new 3DS with no charger, exclusive new 3DS games…) I was disapponted and decided to go full Sony with Vita and PS4.
  • Barmont
    This is the so called BAIT, and here you are
  • Thanatos2k
    Steam has a near monopoly. Steam has saved PC gaming. Monopolies are not always bad, regardless of what your Econ class will tell you.
  • Thanatos2k
    Except….it really is.
  • Thanatos2k
    Yeah, Sega failed. Then Sony came along and took the market from Nintendo, and you should know the rest.
  • Thanatos2k
    It was in the past.
  • Uncle Slick
    Enjoy the one good game available on PS4, buddy.
  • Uncle Slick
    Why buy a PS4 when you can have a PC that’s ten times better, and can always be upgraded to be better than the next console.
    And has all the same games.
    Console gaming sucks except for console exclusives, which Nintendo just has the most of.
  • 2501
    What missing customisation features? The breast-slider is the only one that got out, very tragic.
    The only costumes that where removed where the bikinis,and considering that Lin is a 13 year old girl and countries like the EU that have tight guidelines on the representation of minors in media, its removable is understandable.
    As for the removal of the religion references, yeah it’s only the BLADE acronym and thats it, big whoop. The JPN ver. actually doesn’t go very deep into religious symbolism, and instead goes neck deep into exploring the theme of transhumanism. The new BLADE acronym is descriptive of what BLADE actually does in the story, as opposed to their philosophy, so it doesn’t hinder the experience of Xenoblade X. Not to mention the ver we get includes the DLC for free.
    Look, it’s a long shot from the bullshit that Treehouse pulled on Fates and what Sega did with the Yakuza series.
  • http://www.plurk.com/Nonscpo Nonscpo
  • Malcolm_Ecks
    In the article is points out how Nintendo denies rumours that wind up true so I’ll consider it true.
  • Guin
    Sony never had a monopoly in the games’ market ever since it jumped in it. There were always two companies that kept it in check be it Sega, Microsoft or Nintendo.
    Yeah and it still didn’t have a monopoly because Nintendo kept fighting and staying relevant in the market. Don’t confuse taking #1 in sales as being the only option left in the market which is what a monopoly is. You would’ve failed economics 101.
    That’s why I said marked by the least competition. Sony’s never going to have a true monopoly, just like Steam doesn’t have a true monopoly.
    You’re underestimating Nintendo back then. They were still powerful juggernaughts by virtue of being in Sony’s spot in the handheld market. Not to mention their first party titles which also keep them afloat. If it weren’t for third party devs jumping into the Sony ship, they would’ve gone the way of the 3Dodo.
