Courtesy of Gamebanshee comes word that the seemingly impossible to kill arpg Hellgate: London is now available as a first person shooter on the Google Play store.
Bill Roper had left Blizzard to form Flagship Studios in 2003, eventually releasing his own answer to Diablo in 2007’s Hellgate: London. Hampered with an tiered subscriber system and an un-optimized engine, it wasn’t able to sustain the company or retain its initially high launch day player base. Since then, it has moved to new hands and made something of a success of itself in Korea, and even re-appeared on Steam, though development on that version was shut down.
This new FPS-focused version of the much-maligned Hellgate property borrows some of the original title’s assets (Armor, gun models, enemies), but adds quite a bit as well. Since the game was originally based around the Marksman class and the unique FPS mechanics it employed, it makes sense they’d create a spin-off focusing on it.
