Fate/Extella Announced for PlayStation 4, PS Vita

Marvelous has announced (also via Hachima) Fate/Extella for both PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, in this week’s Famitsu.

Development on the game is 60% complete, and it’s described as something of an action-oriented experience, with players taking control of various characters after the story of the Moon Holy Grail War. Marvelous is set to release the game sometime later this year.

The confirmed characters thus far include Saber Nero Claudius, Caster Tamamo-no-Mae, and Saber Altera. The story is written by Hikaru Sakurai and Kinoko Nasu, with Aruko Wada handling character designs.

The game isn’t a spinoff to Fate/Stay Night, or a sequel to Fate/Extra.

    I’d say this has a pretty good chance coming over. The first one sold well. The second one didn’t come over because the PSP was dead by then. Same Fate that befell Valkyria Chronicles.

    Expect the localization to be only on PS4 though.

    And here I am still waiting for Fate/Stay Night Realta Nua and Hollow/Ataraxia to be localised. Vita or PC is fine (but preferably both, with a physical for PS Vita. Japanese copy of Realta Nua is expensive).

    If XSEED take it, hopefully they’ll gift it with a limited edition where the physical copy is exclusive to it. Vita will still be alive and well for a couple of years yet as far as I’m concerned.

    At least we get a physical. I think digital only is going to be increasingly more frequent with the Vita outside of limited editions.

    Fingers crossed for a localization. I’m still disappointed that Realta Nua and Hollow Ataraxia haven’t been localized on the Vita (Especially with the recent swell of VNs).

    I’m curious if we’ll need to know what happened in Fate/Extra CCC, though. I got Fate/Extra, and found out about the sequel that was “mysteriously” never localized… Looked it up, and found out about a certain caster’s noble phantasm that pretty much ensures the game will never be released in the West.

    It’s a shame they didn’t at least censor it. I’d have loved to play the sequel on my Vita once I’ve finished the first.

    I’ve assumed that it must be some kind of licensing issue. With so many VNs being localized and F/SN being one of the most popular (Along with having increased attention from the animes being produced), I think that if it were possible, we would’ve seen it already.

    I haven’t given up. It’s in MangaGamers top 10 most requested (alongside White Album 2 and Aiyoku no Eustia, I also want those two) so I hope that it flags up enough for them to overcome it.

    Still, some transparency on the part of one of the IP holders would be great.

    No license issue to speak of, unless you mean Aniplex. TM published the PS2 games and the Vita remakes. It’s more they likely haven’t been convinced the game is worth putting over here. Which isn’t entirely wrong. Popular as the anime may be, they can’t get a promise of adequate sales if they did bring it about.
