Here is What Super Mario Bros 3 Would Have Looked Like on The PC

When you think of Nintendo’s past, you would never associate the company with developing games outside of their own software or hardware, despite having a recent and aggressive embrace of smartphones.

Well what if one of their most iconic game franchises was brought to the PC? This happened with id Software back in the 90s, when they had their go at it.

In 1990, id Software (known back then as IFD), had created a short demo for a potential PC port. Nintendo ultimately rejected the port in order to focus on their own hardware.

John Romero recently uploaded a video (featured above) showcasing the PC demo for the game.

Although many of the sound effects don’t sound like those from the NES game, and there’s no music to speak of, it’s a little interesting bit of history and raises some interesting questions like “What if Nintendo went through with this?”
